I love checking out a cool distillery in any city I visit but this spot is special. I'm not a fan of drinking spirits straight up but since visiting this spot, I never thought I would ever sip on such smooth liquor like this liquor they produce here. From the bourbon, tequila, vodka, etc. No harsh burn on my throat, great flavors, great sippers. Having a flight option to include any spirit is a great option to choose on their menu. My Valentine's Day surprise was a hit: Liquor tasting and chocolate pairing at The Striped Pig Distillery. The event popped up in January and I booked immediately, wanting to have a pocket Valentine's Day surprise. We arrived at our appointed time of 2pm, last available, and the gravel parking lot had plenty of spaces for us. I bet at night it can get packed, they have a local-bar vibe. We went in and followed the signs to the back. There is table seating as well as bar seating, and a nice dark wood funky vibe. Classic rock was playing not too loudly, and it seemed like they were running a staff meeting in the back so we couldn't do a tour. No problem, maybe next time. Our bartender welcomed us and offered table or bar seating, and of course we chose bar. There were several beer taps in the wall, with interesting-sounding names and descriptions that will have to be further explored at a future visit. We were here first and foremost for the tasting and pairing. Our guy gave us the list of the pairings, which was opposite order from the order they were served which was opposite the direction they were intended to be consumed. I enjoyed the chaos and we started with the house gin, featuring lavender and doing an incredibly herbaceous dance with the floral white chocolate. Nice pairing. Hubby is not a gin drinker and found it very floral and astringent. I bought a bottle. The next was the house spiced rum with a pineapple chocolate that was far superior to any Captain or Admiral. Spicy and smooth, a lovely slow sipping rum, or mix it up in a tiki drink or daiquiri. We picked up a bottle. Next, the bourbon. Hubs was not thrilled with their bourbon. He found it had a very acetone hit and while it was not objectionable, it would not be his choice. He is a bourbon connoisseur. I am not. I don't care for bourbon, but this was far smoother, less woody than expected. The dark chocolate would match with anything, really. Last, the rye whiskey. If I like anything less than bourbon, it's rye. But this one was surpringly drinkable, and I could see myself drinking it again. Hubby again picked up that acetone note that put him off the bourbon too. I don't know enough to define it. But tastes vary. We had fun and he wants to do more like this, so that's a W for the event, thanks for making it a fun Valentine's Day surprise! They sold me two bottles and I really like that gin so that's their W. Upon pulling into the parking lot which was down a dirt road and seeing few signs of life I was ready to turn around. Luckily I did not or I would have missed out on one of my new favorite distilleries!! The outside wasn't very welcoming and the inside at first was questionable but once we were greeted it was uphill from there. We did a tour at $10 per person which included a sampling- well worth it and we learned the history behind the name! They have more varieties than I would have thought of several liquors and there were very few I did not like. The owners son was super personable and I really enjoyed the whole experience!!! We ended up buying a few bottles, it was difficult to pick only 3...they do not have food and just got their license to sell cocktails which he said would be happening soon. Service was good, the guy at the beer station was so kind, funny and very helpful. He let us try any kind and told us the full backstory the place. I got the unicorn sour, and it was very sour but I love any sours usually. It definitely makes you quench your jaw. The place it's self was confusing to me and also in a hard location to find but I think it has a lot of potential, they had some games, a place for live music. They are going to be building the distillery or brewery part soon. I'm excited to go back soon and see if anything has changed. I also think they could do way better on their merch, I'm no graphic designer but I believe there's real potential in a cute brewery shirt but they just went for the basics. The concept is fun and cool. The history of the striped pig is very interesting, I love learning about that stuff and the prohibition. read more

We're back for a second visit! This family business is growing. Same great quality of booze, but now they are able to do cocktails! The tasting we did was actually with the distiller, and while he didn't seem at ease at making the cocktails, it was great to hear him talk about his process in creating these amazing products. Just like before, every flavor is on point, and you can taste exactly what they say in the product. Rhey had a few new ones, small batch smores bourbon that is delicious and smooth, and a peach whiskey that has so much peach flavor you feel Ike you just bit into a ripe peach! They have a few tables where you can sit put in the front area, where the gift shop is and then they have tables in the back where they do the tastings. The pecan bourbon is my absolute favorite, so we will be back again soon to restock. This is a must experience whether you enjoy tequila, vodka, gin,whiskey, or bourbon. Do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't be disappointed as they literally have something for everyone! read more

This is my favorite Charleston distillery that I've been to so far! Woman owned and family run, the staff are some of the friendliest folks I've come across & were so thorough and patient in telling us all about their history. They have such a wide, unique range of spirits and the flavors were spot on. I'm not typically much of a liquor gal, but I enjoyed almost everything I tried during our tasting -- even the bourbon! Some of my faves were the watermelon vodka, coconut banana rum, pepper tequila, sour peach whiskey and s'more bourbon. So delicious; we bought a few bottles. The family just bought the building + property and have big plans to expand and offer even more fun events, concerts, etc. Not to mention a brewery will be going in next door! I loved everything about my visit to this distillery! Its a woman owned family run business where you can absolutely feel the love that goes into their business when you walk in. The land is unassuming where you kind of think you are in the wrong place, kind of think they are closed. So much so we sat in the parking lot and watched someone else go in just to make sure it was right. I am glad we decided to get out of the car and give this place a try! The tour was cute and the tasting covered so many things! I maybe didnt like 1 think out of the almost 15 things we tried (it may have been less but I lost count)! The tastings were small so you can get a feel for everything and not be over served and I appreciate that. This is one of Charleston's best new hidden gems. I came to Striped Pig distillery today with the hubby and we were treated to a complimentary tasting of vodka, rum, and moonshine: all of which is distilled on property. We walked up to the front door and were greeted by their ambassador, a huge friendly Golden Retriever. As we walked in a very nice lady named Jules welcomed us into the tasting room and gave us a great complimentary tasting. We were then escorted back to the distilling area for a tour by a very passionate and knowledgeable distill master. He explained the entire distilling process from grain to corked and labeled bottles ready to ship. They even hand-apply, sign and number EVERY bottle by hand! When our tour was over, I was actually sad to leave, BUT we did not go empty-handed. I now have a great bottle of Striped Pig Rum front and center in my bar! While the whole operation is quite quite small , and the tour is pretty quick, you get a sense that these guys really know what they are doing. You also here in their voices and see on their faces the absolute passion and dedication that they have for their craft. Charleston is a finer city for having Striped Pig Distillery in it!!! read more

The folks over at Striped Pig are a great bunch. I was lucky enough to get a couple tours of the place and do some sampling before they even opened. From the outside it just looks like a big warehouse down the strange alley in North Chuck but, once you walk through the door the smells transport you to a boozy paradise. The combination of the wood and liquor creates a musky flavor that lingers in the air. The tour is pretty short consider most of the action takes place in the warehouse with all the tanks and barrels but it's pretty cool to check out. They also have a tasting area and a gift shop type area where you can taste and purchase some to bring home. One of the gift items is a personalized mini barrel that you can fill with booze and gift to a spirit loving pal or keep for yourself. They also offer up their conference room as a meeting space for free. All you have to do is reserve it. Pretty sure the host larger event for free in the distillery as well. Keep an eye out for Jackson. The official striped pig. He's often out and about at marketing type events/parties and he's adorable. read more

We were in town for a long weekend, and every lucked out for our tour and tasting at Striped Pig Distillery - the owner was our tour guide and bartender. Pixie has a great story as a female entrepreneur and we got to hear some of it. Another perk of the tour and tasting with the owner is that she was very generous with the tasting pours. I'm not sure how many they usually do for a tasting, we counted 7 or 8 pours each. Our favorite was the spiced rum - it was so different from the overly vanilla spiced rums that others distill. Their spiced rum is a nice plentiful dose of cinnamon and clove. The gin was another favorite here...very fresh and herbal tasting. We left with a bottle of each of these! read more

I found this awesome deal on Groupon . I planned a girl's weekend in Charleston and was looking for some activities . We arrived late due to some of us getting lost. Don't hesitate to drive all the way through the gates and to the back, I promise the distillery is back there lol. Todd was super accommodating and didn't mind that we were late. He was extremely thorough in his presentation and allowed us to sample the alcohol we missed due to being late. He stayed back with us even though he was the only one working and had to close early due to a call out. He took pictures for us and checked us out . I really enjoyed our tour. Johnny was an amazing host. His passion for his industry is contagious and is captured in the knowledge and enthusiasm he displays in his product. Jim was also very welcoming in showing us the product. Their distillery tour and tasting is well worth the $5 you will spend. I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends in the area. We went on 3:30 on a Friday and were able to sit back and have a sampling of each of the spirits Striped Pig creates with Johnny, as he gave us a story to go along with each small shot. Along with another couple, We were then taken on a tour in which I learned a lot of interesting tidbits of information. We were even allowed to label and sign a few of the whiskey bottles. Didn't know about this distillery until I saw a post on Facebook. Then I knew I had to check it out. We went Saturday and it wS the best part of our weekend. The tour, while small in area, was really fascinating and very interesting to see and learn the process. The tasting was AWESOME. The gin, vodka, rum and a couple of others were phenomenal. I'm new to gin and have come to live it and was excited to purchase a bottle of theirs. The guy who did the tasting and tour was so knowledgable. It was very impressive at what he knew about the history of liquor, prohibition and their local competitors. We love Remy! We recently moved to Charleston from AZ. This is the ONLY place we get our vodka from.

I see previous reviews are really good and I hesitate complaining but our "tour" was just madness. It was a free for all, get behind the bar and taste what you want, get on it and dance, and there wasn't much of a tour at all. The bachelorette party enjoyed themselves but I was on edge someone would get hurt. It must really depend on who gives you the tour. read more
