I visited Deep Water Vineyard with a large group this past weekend when we were in the area for a birthday celebration, and there were things I loved it. The property is lovely. Huge live oaks (one with a skateboard swing); plenty of tables and seating; live music at certain times (there was someone singing and playing guitar for most of our visit on a Saturday afternoon); and animals galore - from pens with chickens, Highland cows, and pigs to dogs that work at the winery! The staff were incredibly friendly. Between the staff and the property, it's the kind of place you could spend hours on a pretty day. On the other hand, even in winter (we visited in January, on a mild day) we had a hard time with the gnats on the property. At least I think it was gnats that were flying around our faces and trying to commit suicide in our wine. Maybe they weren't gnats - I didn't think gnats bit humans, and these things wanted our blood. But whatever they were, they were really obnoxious. We moved from the grassy area to an area in the front of the winery that had a concrete slab, but they were either everywhere on the property or followed us - because they were there, too. We couldn't escape them. We bought ten bottles of their wine and did a make your own wine tasting from them (because we were a large group, this made more sense than doing their tasting). Unfortunately, most of the wines weren't to my taste, only about 3/10 were wines I would drink a glass of (we were doing 1 oz pours since we were trying so many). Being a Southern winery, they make several wines from muscadine grapes, which just isn't my cup of tea. They do offer a few other beverages (mead and Bloody Marys at the very least - they may have had more but I didn't venture to the bar to find out) if you want something other than wine. (They seem to offer frozen drinks - frose? - but they weren't offering that since we were there in January.) The property is fun to visit - animals, trees, live music, space for games and spreading out... Unfortunately, the wines weren't for me, and the bugs made me nuts (I'm itchy again just writing this review)! Still, a fun place to stop for a visit if you're doing other things in the area. It can accommodate big groups, too. And the staff were really great - I appreciate how welcoming they make the property! read more

I really wanted to love this winery, as the location is quite charming and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the wine itself just didn't hit the mark for us. The winery has a large property with plenty of space to explore, including what appears to be a small farm with chickens and pigs. On a warm day, the outdoor seating areas with games would likely make for a lovely experience. However, when it came to the wine tasting, the samples were served in plastic cups, which some may actually prefer. But for us, it took away from the overall experience. And most importantly, the wines themselves just didn't impress our palates. We tried a variety of their offerings, but nothing really stood out or compelled us to purchase a bottle to take home. It's a shame, because the setting is really quite nice. But at the end of the day, the wine is the most important factor, and this winery missed the mark for us on that front. If you're in the area and want to spend some time outdoors in a charming environment, it could still be worth a visit. But I wouldn't go out of your way, especially if you're a serious wine enthusiast. read more

I have gone to the Stomp the Grapes festival for several years now and enjoy it every time. The wine tasting is great and they give you six tastings and I always leave with at least one bottle of the strawberry wine that they do annually. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun! They have live music, food trucks, a grape stomping and Lucille Ball look-a-like contest, and vendors. The mead's are real good and they have other drink options available. It's a small festival but worth going! read more

There's so much to love about Deep Water Vineyard. Tucked away on Wadmalaw Island, its remote location is vibrant and bright. Cell service was spotty, as it really is in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Like there's 200 churches and a tea plantation nearby but that's about it. One super fun thing about this vineyard is that they are home to two free roaming highland cows, Maggie and Tara. Find them in the vineyard! They are very sweet little things. They also have other farm animals, such as chickens and ducks. The wine itself is lovely and they have a taste for every preference. My flight was fruit forward. They offer tours as well, but we skipped that. Live music was happening for the duration of our visit, and there was a food truck on site (though their mac and cheese was lackluster). This was such a wonderful day and a great vineyard. This is located in Wadmalaw Island about 40 minutes from downtown Charleston. A great way to spend a Saturday. The wine tasting is wonderful and the server was extremely entertaining and spent the time to educate us on the wines he was presenting. We had a good time and everyone partaking in the tasting was kind and friendly. Outside they have patio tables with chairs and umbrellas. They also have a walk up bar you can buy wines by the glass and frozen cocktails, which were perfect for beating the heat. On Saturdays they have live music and food trucks available for purchasing food. They have a big field where you can spread out and provides a great space for large parties. Beautiful space about an hour outside of Charleston, Visited on a sunny Saturday around 1130 am. We were welcomed in and given wristbands and advised we could wait for a tasting or have glasses of wine individually. They also had mead and froze. Went with the froze since it was a super hot day (over 90!). Live music started at 1. Two new "toddler" cows that free roam the vineyards. Wonderful visit and look forward to going again! read more

Not too many vineyards in the area so we were happy to check this one out. There was live music while we were there so that was nice. They do after wine tasting and different things. Staff seemed friendly. They had a food truck while we were there but we didn't get any food. Nice little gift shop and plenty of areas to sit (you can bring chairs too). My only complaint is the gross out houses as bathrooms. I appreciate the "rustic" charm, but they were gross. It's possible they had bathrooms inside, I just didn't see them. read more

We all enjoyed the day at their Mead Festival. The tasting was informative and of course tasty.

Everyone who worked here that we came in contact with was lovely. I enjoyed my Bloody Mary made with their pepper wine. Unfortunately my pals did not enjoy the wines they ordered. The outdoor space was nice, but there were lots of bugs and even some dog poop that a friend stepped in. Not sure if it was from the dog they have or a dog that someone brought and didn't clean up after. My friend came here because of the photos on the website, but she felt misled. Quite a jaunt from Charleston if you're drinking. It's a chill vibe, though. Maybe don't come in the summertime when it's so hot. read more

We love the entire Deep Water experience from Ida Claire to the phenomenal staff and serene, peaceful environment. Enjoyed a beautiful Saturday afternoon sampling the meads and wines. Very happy to discover this place!

One of my favorite things is when a local business refers us to other local businesses- and the tour guide at Charleston Tea Garden told us about Deep Water Vineyard and we decided to go hunt them down and I was thrilled we did. This is a very special find- we arrived just in time for the next tasting and opted for the cheese and meat plate to accompany our wine- very smart since we tried 13 wines and three meads! There are 12 wines listed on the sheet- you pick 6 to try for $15 and you take home your wine glass. John and I both got 6 each and tried all of them- something I recommend. The 13th pour was a seasonal wine that now I am thinking, darn I should've snagged a bottle! John actually got another extra tasting of a peppered wine (I am allergic) so I walked out into the shop and was eyeing the meads when the lady at the counter asked if I had sampled the meads during the tasting.... wait- what??? I spun around and went back in to ask about the meads! # more samples and I bought 2 bottles of meads- the traditional aged in bourbon barrels was marvelous! John picked the gingerbread cookie mead- because he was intrigued. I also happily snagged a t-shirt. Funny enough- we weren't done enjoying Deep Water Vineyard- they have a huge yard with plenty of tables, loungers and a couple of swings! A traditional swing and a swing saucer and you know I kicked it and played on both! Plus you have to walk the vineyard, find Ida Claire (the cow) and explore the other farm animals too! I mean- you could seriously spend a whole day, with the fam and just enjoy! Weekends have food trucks and looked like entertainment too- what a wonderful local treasure! read more

I've never been to a vineyard before so wasn't sure what to expect. It's a beautiful drive out to that part of the island, but beware the turn is easy to miss. We only came for the wine tasting and we sadly did not like many of the flavors. The host was nice enough to let us try a few additional samples including their signature Bloody Mary with the spicy wine and it was delicious! The tasting is a great value - for $15 you get a tasting and a souvenir stemless wine glass, which they will wrap up for you. There's a small gift shop, a picnic area out front or a large grassy area to eat or play cornhole, etc. There's also a cute little cow out back that loves to get pets! Would return, but mostly to enjoy the outdoor setup. read more

My friend planned to try this vineyard for some wine tasting. Although I am allergic, I was careful and took my allergy pills prior to the tasting. Carefully, I only took small sips and gave the rest to my friend. There were some good tasting wines and our server was nice and sweet. She was very knowledgeable and accommodating as well. We also tried their newer wines, mead flights and sample slushees. I recommend the "High Tide" if you like the lightly sweet red wine taste. The slushees and Dark Fruit Mead were also the best to try out as well. Afterwards, we visited Ida Claire, the adorable cow and the field. There weren't any growing at the moment as winter was just ending and so it was understandable. They have a cute little gift shop along with a little farm with chickens and others. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and bought a bottle of our favorite wine. As part of the wine tasting, a glass wine gift was also included -- which is really cool. We have been to Deep Water many times since moving to Charleston in 2016. We've loved to see their operations grow over the years. I highly recommend doing a wine tasting. During our most recent visit we got a few drinks (house made mead and Bloody Mary with house made jalapeño wine) and a charcuterie plate to enjoy the perfect weather and live music at the picnic tables. Be sure to find the miniature cow, Ida-Claire. She's usually roaming the vineyard and definitely loved by the staff! There's also a small vegetable garden and chickens to see while you take a stole with your drinks. So thankful Charleston has this winery, and I hope we have more in the future! read more

Our group had a private wine tasting during our trip to Charleston. The South Carolina eco system is not ideal for wine production, as was explained to us during the tasting how Deep water produced their wines. They use additional grapes from California in several of their wines. Their wines were not overly impressive, we only liked a few. That said, the winery itself was lovely and we overall enjoyed the tasting experience. The vineyard covers a large outdoor space, rows of grapes bordered by low county trees draped in ghostly moss. You can visit Ida Claire, their mascot cow, lounging among the vines. The grounds has plenty of seating and, while it was quiet during our weekday visit, they seem to have several events. The vineyard has an indoor seating space as well for private tastings that was comfortable. The tasting guide did a good job of explaining the wine and giving us time and space to taste- along with some chocolate. My rating is mostly based on the experience then the wine itself, and we felt the winery was worth a visit. read more

We visited Deep Water for a private tasting for my bachelorette party, and we had such a nice time! While the vineyard is a bit outside of CHS proper, it was an easy Uber ride out. Once we got there, we were surprised by how vast the land is! The vineyard itself is quite large, and they have ample outdoor seating, an area for picnics / live music, a storefront, and lots of space to walk around and sip wine. The weather was perfect during our visit, so we were able to take advantage of all the beautiful outdoor areas and take lots of #basic pics in the vineyard! Hospitality when we arrived was also great; we were greeted and escorted to our private tasting, and our server was quite kind and welcoming. We were seated in a separate building in a closed off space that just had the four of us and that only our server entered. Nice to be secluded! The decor of the space was simple but appropriate - loved the candle in a repurposed wine bottle! Our server led us through the tasting in a great pace and with an appropriate level of detail. She explained each varietal to us while comparing it to other options on the menu, and then poured our desired amount in our glasses (some in our group opted for smaller pours, others AKA me took the whole tasting pour) and gave us ample time to enjoy it. In each step of the tasting, we were able to select our preferred variety of the two offered, which was nice to make it customizable. The wines were pretty delightful - not the best wine I've ever had, but surprisingly good for being the only vineyard in the area. My favorite was the Low Tide, a semi-dry white with just enough sweetness to make it refreshing. Perfect for the CHS weather! While we sipped, we got to enjoy a small tray of m&ms and also some oyster crackers. At the end of the tasting, we were gifted our tasting glasses to take home, and we were surprised to get a coupon for a wine slushy! We meandered around the grounds and cashed in our slushies while enjoying the weather. I'm not a huge frozen drink fan, but the slushy (I opted for peach) was pretty tasty and a nice sweet bump in the afternoon! There was a food truck offering Indian food, but I do wish they had more variety - I could have gone for a nice cheeseboard with my wine, but that part was missing. We wound up just enjoying our drinks and the area before heading back to the city. We had quite a hard time getting back though - very few Ubers / Lyfts in the area, which we didn't realize before. Luckily, Deep Water provided us a list of cabs / other transportation that work with them, so we made it back OK but it was a bit more of an event and more $$ than expected. Overall, Deep Water was the perfect addition to my bachelorette weekend, and we had such a nice time sipping multiple wine varietals in the beautiful space! This is a great place for anyone looking to get out of CHS proper for a bit or for any group looking for a fun outing. My partner and I found this vineyard in Charleston after a sales meeting and it was outstanding! The staff was so nice and helpful with the knowledge of different types of wines. What to do when Father's Day and your birthday weekend intersect? That's right. ROAD TRIP!!! We pointed our noses toward Charleston, SC and were delighted to discover Deep Water Vineyard and Winery. What a fun place! Sommelier Tiffany was super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful as she guided us through a sampling of 14 different wines. Admittedly, I've never been much of a fan when it comes to muscadine and scuppernong wines (the only grapes that can survive our southeast US heat and humidity). However, DWV has performed some kind of vino voodoo and produced several delightful wines and blends with these otherwise tricky varietals. Well done! After grabbing a few bottles to take back home, along with some fun trinkets from the gift shop, we vowed to come back again soon! read more

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and had a good time! They had a good truck on site which we ordered a late lunch from (unfortunately no vegetarian options). We did the wine tasting inside and if you go with a partner you can do the "BFF tasting" which allows you to taste all of the available wines instead of just half. There was a musician playing reggae music but he left shortly after we arrived so our primary entertainment was watching drunk girls on a bachelorette trip follow ducks around the vineyard trying to take selfies. Deepwater vineyard was so fun! My friend and I went for a $15 wine tasting and we got a stemless wine glass included. The tasting was great, the lady leading it was so friendly and made the experience enjoyable. The tasting includes 10 wines, where you taste 5 of them, but if you go with a partner, you and your partner can each try 5 different wines and share so you end up trying all 10! The vineyard itself is nice and there's plenty of picnic tables to go out and sit down. There's rotating food trucks that set up at the vineyard, but you're able to bring your own food and set up a picnic yourself. Highly recommend. read more
