There's so much to love about Deep Water Vineyard. Tucked away on Wadmalaw Island, its remote location is vibrant and bright. Cell service was spotty, as it really is in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Like there's 200 churches and a tea plantation nearby but that's about it. One super fun thing about this vineyard is that they are home to two free roaming highland cows, Maggie and Tara. Find them in the vineyard! They are very sweet little things. They also have other farm animals, such as chickens and ducks. The wine itself is lovely and they have a taste for every preference. My flight was fruit forward. They offer tours as well, but we skipped that. Live music was happening for the duration of our visit, and there was a food truck on site (though their mac and cheese was lackluster). Overall - we adored our visit and I took home a T-shirt from their gift shop to commemorate it!

This was such a wonderful day and a great vineyard. This is located in Wadmalaw Island about 40 minutes from downtown Charleston. A great way to spend a Saturday. The wine tasting is wonderful and the server was extremely entertaining and spent the time to educate us on the wines he was presenting. We had a good time and everyone partaking in the tasting was kind and friendly. Outside they have patio tables with chairs and umbrellas. They also have a walk up bar you can buy wines by the glass and frozen cocktails, which were perfect for beating the heat. On Saturdays they have live music and food trucks available for purchasing food. They have a big field where you can spread out and provides a great space for large parties. I really enjoyed the wine, but more so the people who worked here were so kind and welcoming. Just the best place!

Beautiful space about an hour outside of Charleston, Visited on a sunny Saturday around 1130 am. We were welcomed in and given wristbands and advised we could wait for a tasting or have glasses of wine individually. They also had mead and froze. Went with the froze since it was a super hot day (over 90!). Live music started at 1. Two new "toddler" cows that free roam the vineyards. Wonderful visit and look forward to going again!

Great place to enjoy a nice glass of wine with a huge outdoor space. They do tastings inside and have a small gift shop. They have a variety of drinks including mimosas, Bloody Marys, and more which are all wine based. And they have several different meads to try as well. The service was super friendly and welcoming!

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, large Vineyard variety, life music and a swing, what else to ask for? Plenty of seating areas to enjoy the music and the drinks. Invited their frozen mixes. We did the wines tasting with a larger group (22 of us) they were able to accommodate and the sparkling bonus tasting was great. There is a taco truck on premises (must try the carnitas Taco). Free WiFi is a plus whe. You are in the middle of nowhere. Definitely had a great time.

Not too many vineyards in the area so we were happy to check this one out. There was live music while we were there so that was nice. They do after wine tasting and different things. Staff seemed friendly. They had a food truck while we were there but we didn't get any food. Nice little gift shop and plenty of areas to sit (you can bring chairs too). My only complaint is the gross out houses as bathrooms. I appreciate the "rustic" charm, but they were gross. It's possible they had bathrooms inside, I just didn't see them.

We love the entire Deep Water experience from Ida Claire to the phenomenal staff and serene, peaceful environment. A perfect place to hang out, drink cheap wine and listen to live music on a Saturday. The wine isn't exactly my favorite, but it's ok for the price. Deep Water Vineyard is a true hidden gem. We have been countless times and hope Ida Claire will have a new friend soon. She is adorable and I was sickened to hear that a drunk gentleman had assaulted her.

One of my favorite things is when a local business refers us to other local businesses- and the tour guide at Charleston Tea Garden told us about Deep Water Vineyard and we decided to go hunt them down and I was thrilled we did. This is a very special find- we arrived just in time for the next tasting and opted for the cheese and meat plate to accompany our wine- very smart since we tried 13 wines and three meads! There are 12 wines listed on the sheet- you pick 6 to try for $15 and you take home your wine glass. John and I both got 6 each and tried all of them- something I recommend. The 13th pour was a seasonal wine that now I am thinking, darn I should've snagged a bottle! John actually got another extra tasting of a peppered wine (I am allergic) so I walked out into the shop and was eyeing the meads when the lady at the counter asked if I had sampled the meads during the tasting.... wait- what??? I spun around and went back in to ask about the meads! # more samples and I bought 2 bottles of meads- the traditional aged in bourbon barrels was marvelous! John picked the gingerbread cookie mead- because he was intrigued. I also happily snagged a t-shirt. Funny enough- we weren't done enjoying Deep Water Vineyard- they have a huge yard with plenty of tables, loungers and a couple of swings! A traditional swing and a swing saucer and you know I kicked it and played on both! Plus you have to walk the vineyard, find Ida Claire (the cow) and explore the other farm animals too! I mean- you could seriously spend a whole day, with the fam and just enjoy! Weekends have food trucks and looked like entertainment too- what a wonderful local treasure!

Always an amazing time at Deep Water! From the vines to Ida Claire - everything is beautiful. We learned a lot about muscadine grapes and their process for wine making. The staff are super knowledgeable and always eager to educate and serve! We love it here and miss it already

Great service! Cute grounds. Huge Vineyards. Can walk around on your own through the gate. Resident cow is fun to watch. Bathroom is nice outside, not an out house but looks like one. Yummy wines! Can choose 1 of 2 from about 6 columns. Nice drink options. Cheese plate for purchase. Only vineyard on the island. Close to tea garden. Had posted my pics but apparently not and now its too far gone to post now.

I've never been to a vineyard before so wasn't sure what to expect. It's a beautiful drive out to that part of the island, but beware the turn is easy to miss. We only came for the wine tasting and we sadly did not like many of the flavors. The host was nice enough to let us try a few additional samples including their signature Bloody Mary with the spicy wine and it was delicious! The tasting is a great value - for $15 you get a tasting and a souvenir stemless wine glass, which they will wrap up for you. There's a small gift shop, a picnic area out front or a large grassy area to eat or play cornhole, etc. There's also a cute little cow out back that loves to get pets! Would return, but mostly to enjoy the outdoor setup.

We have been to Deep Water many times since moving to Charleston in 2016. We've loved to see their operations grow over the years. I highly recommend doing a wine tasting. During our most recent visit we got a few drinks (house made mead and Bloody Mary with house made jalapeño wine) and a charcuterie plate to enjoy the perfect weather and live music at the picnic tables. Be sure to find the miniature cow, Ida-Claire. She's usually roaming the vineyard and definitely loved by the staff! There's also a small vegetable garden and chickens to see while you take a stole with your drinks. So thankful Charleston has this winery, and I hope we have more in the future!

Ask the Community - Deep Water Vineyard

    Is it dog friendly?

Yes! There were a bunch of dogs there when we were. They also have a couple of "vineyard dogs" (I think belong to the owners/workers) that just roam around just in case your pup is sensitive.

Do they have anything besides muscadine?

They do but still as blends with muscadine.

There is a trolly tour that's offered for about $18/pp which takes you around the plantation. Since we arrived late in the day, we opted not to do the trolly tour, but instead, toured the gift shop, sampled all the hot and cold teas (I think there were 12 samples), and took the 15 minute FREE factory tour. The teas? delicious! The tour? Super educational! It was great learning how tea grows, harvested, and processed. Whether you're a tea drinker or not, you will love stopping here. And if you're not in a rush, go sit in a rocker under the trees, or at one of the many picnic tables. Enjoy the fresh air and the sound of the birds. You won't be disappointed!

Once you are inside, ask any questions that you may have to the person at the register or any personnel there they will happily introduce you to what they have to offer. They have bus tours that you can take to see the tea gardens if desired or just explore on foot. The bus tour will tell you about the different kinds of teas grown there and let you see it close up yourself. The store itself is a fun place to shop with unique gifts and there is also a place to try out some of the different teas that are in dispensers for tasting. The store is stocked with a variety of the teas they produce and popular ones from other major producers as well. I looked at all the different teas for sale and China cups and tea accessories. I ended up buying a tea strainer the kind I couldn't find in my local tea shop among other things. Sip and walk around to explore the store or take your tea outside and sit on the big porch overlooking the Tea Groves, It is very peaceful out there. After I went to the store, I stepped outside and walked across the street to explore the tea groves and look at the huge metal cup and straw and other artwork on the lawn. They are unique. It was a sunny day, so it was perfect for exploring on foot, although I could have probably seen the tea bushes more if I had gotten on the bus tour that they offer various times of the day, but I felt like just walking around and seeing everything. It is a pleasant way to spend a few hours of your day. Especially if you want to take in other places to site see that day. I enjoyed my time there getting outside to get some sunshine and see the tea and get in a little shopping indoors. I spent probably two hours there. It is a good way to relax in nature. I would stop in again when I come back to the area. It is something unique that would be perfect for a person that has a few hours to spend and enjoy a cup of tea.
