Each stylist that has done my hair has done a wonderful job since I've got full, thick and wavy hair which can be a challenge. The conversations always delightful and each stylist asked questions that felt like I was being understood with how I care for my hair and what my hair looks like at the end of appointment. We got married this past Saturday and took my bridal party myself and my new husband to get our hair and make up done. Since moving to the mainland, I've had a few traumatizing experiences with haircuts, but then I finally found a lady in San Diego which I loved (Debbie) she was a keeper! Sadly, moving up, I had to start the process of finding one all over again :( I looked at a couple different places in Issaquah and Snoqualmie, but figured I'd give this place a try since it's very close to my house. I messaged through Yelp to see if they had any availabilities, and I was able to get an appointment with Sammy. Backstory: My Mom is a cosmetologist/hair salon owner and she's been doing my hair my whole life! Sometimes it's hard to explain to her what I want, but she gets me and she knows what I like. Mama knows best! But since Mom is 2,700 miles away, I don't have the luxury of going to her for my hair needs anymore :( Anyways, I walk into the salon, it is a very cozy space. It reminds me of my Mom's shop, a homey feeling (if that makes any sense). I was greeted by the receptionist, and she let Sammy know I was here. Within 3 minutes I was sitting in her chair, explaining to her how I wanted my hair cut. She knew exactly what I wanted, long layers and thinned out, but not a V. LOL! She took me to shampoo my hair and did the cut. I was thrilled! She did exactly what I wanted and more! I found out she's from Hawaii, just like me! I feel like it was really meant to me. She and I talked about home and it was nice. The prices here are reasonable, I have medium/long hair, which she shampoo/conditioned plus at the end she blow-dryed to see the finish cut for a grand total of $55 + tip. I really enjoyed my experience with her and can't wait to go back! I told her next time I come in I want to get my hair ombré/balayage, she said she can do it too! Super excited! I've always got amazing cuts and colors here by Lisa O'brien. She's simply amazing and I'd recommend her to anyone. I've also had my hair cut here by Traci, Tricia and Sara. I think all the ladies are talented but my cuts and colors from Lisa always stood out. Sadly, Lisa passed away from illness. I hope and pray this wonderful lady is resting in peace. By far one of the most amazing salon's on the eastside! The stylists are all very professional and talented; their rates are reasonable. I've been going to Sadie for over two years now and I have never been disappointed. The salon itself is very clean and well kept; they have extended hours during the week which makes it easy to swing over there after work. The salon also recently moved to a new building that partners with an espresso stand. It's a treat to have a delicious coffee or snack while you wait. I'm a disabled veteran and recently moved to the area for medical treatment at UW. I Read the positive reviews for this place and scheduled an apt. to have my hair cut and colored before surgery. I spoke with the stylist (Maia) and explained I wanted to keep my cut, just a trim (I was able to tie it back in a hair tie) and just wanted my grey not as noticeable. I need to maintain a low maintenance hair style while I recover. The haircut is botched and uneven..... I feel as though I have a helmet on my head and I can no longer tie it up. When I arrived I had healthy, naturally curly hair that I never use a blow dryer, flat iron or chemicals on.She fried my hair with bleach...... I've lost all my curl, and it feels and looks like straw, and it's orange. My advice, stick with a stylist you know or go someplace else. Update: I went in to have my hair fixed from a different stylist..... and it was beyond repair. The staff was nice, but my hair did not survive this salon. I now have (what ended up being) the most expensive pixie cut I didn't want. Thankfully its hair and will eventually grow back. read more

I've had my hair cut and colored by Sammy for the past year. I've never been disappointed. I just came in for a new style, something I chose from a magazine with a little tweaking to suit my comfort level for change, and ability to style myself. Sammy looked at the picture and pointed out the differences between the models' hair and my own. She made suggestions to alter the cut, to better suit my hair texture and growth pattern. The cut is amazing! I've had so many compliments from my co-workers and friends. The best part is that I can style it myself, with minimal work and great results. I used to spend double the price Sammy charges and was never this happy. She also cut my daughters hair and 14 year olds can be hard to please. My daughter loves her hair and takes better care of it based on Sammy's advice. The staff is friendly, professional, and the studio is clean and well appointed. Products are high end, staff is up-to-date on trends and styles, prices are reasonable and the service is quality. I highly recommend Studio 202 and Sammy as a hair stylist! read more

I've been going to Studio 202 for about a year and a half and can't imagine going anywhere else. I grew my hair out from super-short to now past my shoulders, and Sarah (the owner and my stylist) held my hand and kept me from getting discouraged during the hard-to-grow phase. I now have her do my color as well, and it looks GREAT! Maybe the biggest thing for me was having a keratin treatment from Lisa. It sounds like hyperbole, but I swear that it changed my life. My thick, wiry salt-and-pepper hair is now soft, manageable and a beautiful brown. No more bad hair days -- and this is from a girl who used to keep her hair cropped because I couldn't get it to do anything and couldn't bear spending an hour working on it and still end up looking like crap. No more of that! Prices are reasonable and the staff is FABULOUS. read more

I think I would give them 3.5 stars, but because of the overall friendliness of everyone, I bumped it up to 4. I was from out of town & getting married (eloping) at a nearby location so I picked Studio 202 based on the few Yelp reviews available as well as the proximity to my wedding venue. I had no prior consultation but mentioned I was in need of a "special occasion" hair style when I made my appointment. I asked for a recommendation of what time I should start my appointment backing up from when I needed to leave the salon because as I was going straight from the salon to my hotel to change for my nuptials. I was given a time & an appointment. I was a little concerned when I realized that I hadn't received a "confirming your appointment" phone call the day before (or the day of, for that matter) so called them that morning. After a long pause & some searching, asking for my name at least twice, I was confirmed, however I had to clarify that this was for a "special occasion" service, not a wash & blow out! When I arrived, again I had to confirm with the receptionist on what I was having done. I was greeted by a lovely young lady whom I thought was my stylist but she turned out to be the assistant. My stylist was still busy with a mens haircut that was apparently running late! 15 minutes went by before my stylist started working on me & apparently out of the loop as well as to why I had an appointment with her. It was as if she wasn't expecting me. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous by the lack of organization I was experiencing as well as the lateness of my appointment, despite me padding my commuting time from the salon to my hotel for this type of situation. While I was satisfied with my hairstyle I didn't think it looked all that special ocassion-y as I had hoped for. Fifty-five dollars for jumbo curls & half a dozen bobby pins wasn't what I was expecting. But then that might have been my fault for not coming in with any expectations of what I did want my hair to look like for my special day! However, I had hoped for something with a little more character. Overall, the style was something I had done for myself many a times, sans the bobby pins! In fact, throughout the entire appointment, I felt as though my stylist was in a hurry, as though she had another engagement? Despite the frustrations, the staff was very, very friendly & helpful. And while I didn't THINK I was a nervous bride, perhaps I was slightly jaded in my expectations, especially without having a prior consultation with the stylist. All-in-all, if I lived in the area, I might give them a second try but I don't think I'd go out of my way to get there. read more

The customer service is great, and I like the energy and culture of the salon. The salon is very clean and nicely decorated. I feel very comfortable sipping my chai tea that they order for me and have delivered to me, while Trish does her magic on my long mane of hair! Parking is easy and the location is easy to find. I LOVE!!!!!! this Salon! I have followed Sadie to this salon, it was new to me. But once I met the girls here and got to know the "vibe" of the place I knew it was worth the extra drive. (And I drive from Bothell!!) Sadie is my "forever" hair girl. People stop me everywhere and ask who does my hair - she has been doing it for almost 10 years now! And now that Studio 202 has taught her to color - WOW! She is AMAZING! The salon is so clean and friendly - from the gal on the phone to the stylists inside - and I can order a fancy coffee drink while I'm there! I have to Gener Juarez and many other privately owned salons, but I am not going anywhere else! Girls (and guys alike) this is THE place to go for cuts and color. The line of color they use is pretty exclusive and my hair is amazing because of it! Can't say anough good things about these ladies - professional and high class! I had quite possibly one of the WORST experiences that I have ever had at a salon this week. This was my first time coming to 202 and I was told to see the owner, Sarah, and that she was worth the money. However, I completely disagree. - Appointment started late. - I was seated in a seat with hair, then stood by awkwardly while they tried to clean it up. - During the first 15 minutes of my (late) appointment my stylist, Sarah, was very distracted helping other customers who walked in and other stylists. This left me feeling very neglected and I felt as though I was not an important customer. -The overall hair cut went fine, but when I asked for the front of my hair to be a little shorter, after she asked if I liked it and if she could do anything else, she seemed extremely ticked off and upset that I asked her to trim the longer hairs. - At the end she just walked away and I was left to go check out by myself without any closing conversation from Sarah. I also felt that I was treated like a child while I was there and that my money was not as important as the other clients paying the $55. And I understand that I look young being 22 years old, but I work 2 jobs and have plenty of money to spend on a hair cut. I did not appreciated the way I was treated at all. I left feeling extremely upset, and normally I will not write these reviews, but what pushed it over the edge was that I was double charged and the second charge was not mine, but a $90 charge. I am absolutely livid about my overall experience and would like to not give them any stars at all. read more

The people here are SO friendly and sweet, but also good listeners! Haha that was a big one for me, as not only do I enjoy engaging in conversation I also enjoy when a hairdresser actually does what I said I wanted. (I know you all feel me on that) These girls are very talented and have fair prices. I go to Traci, and I highly highly recommend her but all the girls here do amazing work. They know what they are doing and seem to genuinely enjoy it, which absolutely makes a difference in their performance and overall vibe of the place. I will continue to come here unless I move to a different country or something, even then, I have family here so I may just plan to get my hair done when I come to visit them! ;P (Hey you girls know how rare it is to meet a hairdresser you trust!) I am so disappointed to have to write this review. I was excited to find Salon 202, and to give Shantel a chance. Upon my first visit, the cut was fantastic, and I loved supporting a small town establishment. She mentioned she loved to do color, so I thought I would give her a try. Being a natural redhead, I simply wanted to cover up some grey with an 'all over' color to match my existing hair color. After 6 hours and 4 separate treatments turning my hair from maraschino-cherry red, to dark red wine, and burning my scalp, I had to leave with head full of dark cherry/purple hair, and a tiny bottle of some repairing solution that would help my hair since it was in 'shock'. Yes, I was in shock, along with my hair. But I think the most disappointing part of the whole ordeal was the lack of communication/empathy/customer service from the whole team at Salon 202. Once she realized something had gone wrong, she got really quiet and it was obvious she did not know how to fix it. I credit Shantel for asking for help from the two other stylists working that day although neither introduced themselves to me,but one did tell me she was not the owner, which I thought was odd. I had to continually ask questions about what they were doing to my hair, what options we had, and getting answers was like pulling teeth. Shantel suggested if I didn't like the color, (which was so obvious) the owner would be back from her trip next week and I should call her then. I never was given the actual name of the owner, and have not been contacted since. I made a point to stay very calm, kind, and understanding, as I can assume these kinds of things can go wrong with working with chemicals. I hope that the owner of Salon 202 can provide some customer service training to her staff and focus on communication/empathy to give the team tools to help with this kind of issue occurs again - which I am afraid it most likely will. I am SO thankful for the color experts at Gene Juarez who were able to give me a 'bleach bath', and turn me from Elvira Black/Wine/Purple, back to the ginger I have always been. read more
