I have been to the Atlanta location twice to see Morgan and I was so pleased both times. My Mom is a Salon owner and has been doing hair for 35 years. I know good hair and good service! My only complaint is that they don't do olaplex treatment and don't have it for sale.. b/c I would buy it ! I really need it b/c I look best blonde blonde and I have super thick coarse hair. It pains me to leave a negative review. However, I do not have an alternative as I provided the business an opportunity to take corrective action and they failed. I had an appointment on 2/8 for highlights and haircut. I was a patron for approximately 2 1/2 years.I was scheduled with a new stylist. I asked if she had my color on file and showed an image of what I was looking for in a cut. I requested about 6" of the length cut, long layers and to frame my face. It took about 3 hours to complete the color and cut. I had to leave before my hair was dried, so perhaps the stylist would have noticed how poor my cut was if she could have viewed it after drying. It looks like I cut my own hair choppy, and uneven. There are no layers, but it's not all one length either. The color on my roots look brassy and reddish in color, this what not my usual color. I had to go out of town and I debated on going back or going somewhere else when I returned. Because I had good experiences in the past I decided to go back. That appointment was today, 2/20. I took off work early to be there. I arrived 10 minutes early. The receptionist asked me to take a seat and the stylist would be with me soon. At about 5 minutes to my appointment I was again told the stylist was finishing up and would be with me soon. The stylist then came to the counter to check out a customer. She checked out the customer , she did not acknowledge my presence and then went to the back again. I could see she was working on another customer. I continued to wait for another 20 minutes. She was still working with another customer. At this point I felt as though I was not being valued or respected as a customer. I decided to leave, very disappointed. Mostly because I was so excited about the prospect of fixing this mess I am living with. My hair looks so bad I don't feel comfortable walking out my door. I will have to live with it until I can find a new salon. The salon just sent a text apologizing and offered a refund. As I appreciate the apology for what they are calling a "mixup". My daughter payed over $200.00 for a full head of blonde highlights. Dalton charged her for a full head of highlights yet she was out of the salon in a little over an hour, with darker hair than when she arrived. He gave her a dry cut instead of a wet cut. Never showed her the back of her hair, because there are no highlights back there. He rushed her appointment, and overcharged and under delivered. I asked for a refund on highlights so I can take her to a salon that will do a proper job. They will not return my calls, and blocked me on their website and social media. They give away services to reality stars, and overcharge regular customers, and that is not okay! I'm going to make sure another young girl does not get taken advantage of again! Then I proceeded to wait for 40 minutes with no check ins on how much longer it would be or any type of communication. I finally got up and walked out at 12:35. The aesthetic was awesome and I was really looking forward to finding a new stylist (my former one stopped cutting due to having a new baby). Unfortunately I don't want to spend over half an hour waiting when I have an appointment time. I don't mind 15 minutes or so but at least have SOME communication with clients about wait time as they are waiting. read more

I was at an appointment and I saw a woman with beautiful hair. I asked her if she had it colored and where she went because it looked so vibrant and like some thing you'd see in a magazine. She told me Anslie at Studio 285 so I knew that would be my next appointment. I came in with a brassed out balayage. My hair loves going brassy and it had been at least three months since my last appointment so I was well due. Anslie was great. I showed her what I was thinking and she went from there and she knew that my hair needed extra toner to help it fade better to the shade I wanted. I also asked for a root smudge to help hide all my grays that are peeking through. The salon itself is gorgeous honestly. It's as if Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie had a hair salon baby. My favorite unexpected thing was they have this gorgeous plant ceiling so when you are at the hair wash station you are looking at a wall of greenery and flowers. It's so pretty and creative, which is a great indication of the stylists who work here. I love my hair color and cut and look forward to my next visit for sure. read more

Back in 2019, I had a test run with Dalton for bridal hair and it was awful. I had to get my MIL on the phone to get my money back and cancel the appt for the actual wedding, because they wouldn't listen to me. There are so many more details with that situation alone that I won't even get into, but believe me, it was ridiculous. Fast forward a few years and I need to stock up on my Kevin Murphey products, which I deem, the best. Everyone seems 'nice enough' and some people had left, gone to Atlanta, etc. Gullible me. I decide to book a blowout appointment, approximately a MONTH ahead, for on valentines... only because Heather has plenty of blowout experience and seemed pretty kind whenever I talked with her. So, I go ahead and book the appointment with Heather. (I have text proof) I show up to my appointment, and Morgan does my blowout. Heather is busy doing at least to my knowledge, a color appointment at the same time on someone else. I don't care what kind of a salon you are, at least have the decency to let me know something has come up? Don't just change my hair person, and not even let me know or give me ANY consideration! I've never heard of such an unprofessional thing in a salon, especially with a (nicer) salon like this. NOBODY spoke to me about it. Yes, Morgan did a good job on my blowout, but it still wasn't what I had planned for, as I had previously ran over some details with Heather. Morgan also obviously was aware of the situation, and seemingly, just could not be bothered. What's messed up with this salon, is not only did I give them another chance, it seems they pick and choose. Taking another client on because it's more money, ... I am a very reasonable person and understand things come up. At least have the professional courtesy to talk to a girl about it. Don't just pretend like all is ok. It's really messed up, and I only kept my cool because I was about to burst into tears ON V-DAY. Needless to say, I'm so disappointed I even gave this actual services here another chance. This sucks and my blowout didn't last at all. $72 down the drain (including tip, she did the work obv), yet I'm so disappointed that this even occurred. read more

Lesson learned. I went to a school here a few times and 75% of the time, I left happy. Last time was bad so I went to a salon know for their blondes. Also known for their extensions. Well. 450 later(two visits) my hair is still yellow and fried more now. My root smudge looks like I did it at home. And since the manager doesn't bother asking why, I'll post on here why I wanted a refund. Too bad I didn't get refunded the first time and just not return. So I was going to hire them for wedding makeup and hair. I was told I should do extensions. This last visit, she did a "trim" with out me asking. After she's done I'm about 3 inches shorter so I can only presume it's to make me have to buy extensions. Too bad so sad. When I asked for the root smudge to be fixed, I was ignored for almost 48 hours leading me to just ask for an over all refund since my hair looks like shit. They could of saved a lot if they just responded. So let's start with my experience there. Not offered anything to drink. I asked for water to take me meds and was brought literally about an inch of water in a glass. I left with semi wet hair. They didn't even wash all the dye out from the root smudge so my under neath hair on my nape of neck is darker than the rest. They didn't even want to know why I wanted a refund and when I picked up the check, it was short. The manager came out and practically threw a bunch of 5s at me and her exact words were "if it's really that big of a deal, here's 30" as she turned storming off. Well yes. It is a big deal. I'm getting married in 2 months while your stylists are squeezing more money out of me than necessary and cutting inches off my head. I see photos of hair all the time getting the results I want in one sitting with a lot more to work off of. Going from brown to blonde in one go but yet you can't get me from blonde to icy blonde in one go? Think it's going to take 3 times and probably even more cut of? LOL no. And her reasoning for withholding the 30 was it was for toner to get out a color in my hair from fanola shampoo. No she said she couldn't do the toner she wanted to on me because of that so why be charged for it? Long story short. Lesson learned. Just because the salon looks super fancy and the stylists act like their holier than thou, and it costs 200 per session- doesn't mean they'll do a good job. Maybe if you treated me the same as you do the people dripping with money who walk through the doors, I wouldn't be writing this review. I guess a 30$ tip wasn't good enough so they had to butcher my hair on the next round not caring about repercussions. Oh and yes, I did get a refund but since you had your head too far up your butt to confront me in person, you forgot to have me sign anything saying I won't tell the world how horrible you are. There's a reason your salon barely has even 3 stars on yelp. Since I already wasted one trip and a crap load of money there, my review stays. read more

I made an appointment at Studio 285 in Augusta for a shampoo, cut, and balayage on a Friday morning before my wedding rehearsal and wedding the next day, Saturday. I had originally booked with the 'new talent' because the cost was less and the stylist had amazing reviews. However, a week before the appointment I was notified that the stylist I booked with was not available but they did have a stylist available at the same time that was a level above new talent. I gladly accepted, while at the same time confirming that I had an appointment time of 9-12 for shampoo, cut, and balayage. The lady on the phone said I would be finished at 11:45 likely. This was perfect because I had to be in Savannah for wedding activities that afternoon. When I arrived for my appointment, the stylist was a little late and only had be back in the chair by 9:15. She was very nice and the studio was beautiful. However, she had me written down for color foils and by the time she started I just let her finish rather than correcting her. Around 11 AM she had still not shampooed my hair yet and I reminded her of my timeline and that I had to leave at 12. She quickly shampooed and toned my hair (which really burned and come to find out damaged my hair). It came to be 12 and she was still blow drying the hair and had not yet cut it. I started to panic and told her I had to absolutely leave no later than 12:30 PM to make it to Savannah on time. Her assistant came to run my card for payment while she finished. She was not able to cut or style my hair and the ends were so damaged and brittle and would break like wet spaghetti. The cost of this was $185 with 20% tip going up to $222. I was so upset. I have never been so upset in so many years. I was hysterically crying in the car about how bad my hair looked and I had to go home and style it myself for my own wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner!!! The hair was and still is so so damaged and she cut so much of the length off that I was worried about the bridal updo the next day as well! I ended up being about 15 minutes late to the wedding rehearsal and had to speed the whole way to Savannah. I was pulled over by a trooper in one of the small towns where the speed limit drops, but was still crying and so upset and even told him what happened; the police officer felt so bad, he let me go with a warning!!! The stylist did offer to let me come back and have my hair cut and styled at no extra charge since she couldn't finish but I would rather never go there again! I am always cautious about booking services in Augusta because it is a town that lacks in basic knowledge and talent, but I thought this Studio would be better since they have a location in Atlanta as well, but I was very very mistaken! I wish I was more extroverted and could go back and confront them about it and get a refund for the damage they have done to my hair but I unfortunately am introverted, avoid conflict, and would rather strongly warn potential future clients! read more

This is an update review! Specifically for the owner Brittany Harrington. I had a few negative experiences at this salon with a different stylist but I am so glad that I gave them a 4th try. After 2 cuts with Rachel that left me with a hair style I didn't ask for and was super unhappy with-- the owners of 285 reached out to me and offered to fix my hair 100% on the house. The fact that they reached out after I left a pretty scathing review meant a lot to me.. they were SUPER nice about it and Brittany was absolutely wonderful to chat with while she did my hair. The color turned out okay, but she cut it exactly how I wanted her to. The salon is gorgeous and family owned and it was very clear that Brittany and her brother take customer service seriously and they want to make their clients as happy as possible. Excellent customer service like this is hard to come by these days and I LOVE that there are business owners like this in augusta. I've gone to Studio 285 several times and love every visit. Gone are the days where I stress about getting my hair done. I feel like I'm getting 1-2 hours mini vacation! The atmosphere is relaxing and comforting. It is unlike any salon I have been to before. My hair always comes out amazing. I have seen Dalton and Whitney and they do amazing work every time. I found this place because of the Augusta Chronical's Daily Deal that was on sale a couple of months ago. I decided it was a really good deal and thought I'd give it a shot. I'm really glad I did! I decided that I was going to get all over color done with highlights and maybe a trim. Kristin is who did my hair and I loved her! The all over color turned out exactly the shade that I wanted. The next day I decided that the highlights weren't exactly what I had envisioned, so I went back. Kristin was great and super understanding. We scheduled the next available appointment to make it exactly the way I wanted it. She made me feel totally comfortable and it didn't take long to fix it to make it absolutely perfect. When I moved to Atlanta I was lucky enough to stumble upon 285too and Dalton. Now that I've moved to Charleston SC, I couldn't part with Dalton! I travel two and a half hours to the Augusta location to be styled by him because he is truly a hair artist. He is extremely knowledgeable about many techniques, including extensions, and knows exactly what is right for your hair type and lifestyle. When I started going to Dalton in May my hair was purple/red- almost black. Now, I'm a blonde! Without ANY orange. He does an amazing job. I went to go get my hair dyed with was already a really blond shade of bleach that took me a while to get and that's because my hair is really dark brown. So I go there to go get my hair dyed and I ask for a light shad of grey with some light purple on the bottom. And what I got was ridiculous!!! The shades were all wrong and it wasn't even close to what I wanted so I ask for them to re do it. They re-do it and it turns out EVEN DARKER!!! Now my hair is close to the color I had a year ago which was dark brown and is nothing, NOTHING WHAT I ASKED FOR. So I go up to pay and they charge me double. DOUBLE. $200 for something that I didn't even ask for!!! It's not even close to what I wanted!!! My hair is now back to dark and is going to be even harder to get it blond then it was the first time. Extremely upset. After getting balayage done several times and the colors never coming out right I dyed my hair back to its natural dark brown. After all the bleaching from the balayage my hair was dry, brittle and breaking so bad I came in today to have it cut. I went to a different stylist this time hoping she would listen to me....showed several pictures of how I wanted and stated several times that my hair HAS to be at least long enough to pull back into a pony tail. Not only is my cut no where close to what I asked for and the pictures I showed, I can't even pull all of it back!! Not only can I not pull it back, it flips out and I asked several times to have it cut so that it would not flip out. I am beyond frustrated and upset. Now I have to wait months just to get my hair long enough for a pony tail. I have spent hundreds at this salon over the last few months and now today I paid for something I didn't even want and absolutely hate. Why it is so hard to actually listen to a client? I've visited 285 a few times, but have never left so happy until today. I had only been to one girl there and after she left the salon, I was kinda lost on what to do. I decided to book with Whitney because she specializes in blondes and I took a leap. I am beyond happy that i did! No one, and I mean no one, has gotten my hair the perfect blonde color that I love. She's welcoming and sweet to talk to and truly cares who is sitting in her seat. She's also knowledgeable and informative about hair care which is awesome! I absolutely adore this salon. They saved my hair back in November 2016, and instead of cutting my hair off they spent hours fixing this issue that made me more comfortable with the way I looked. I come here all the time and I am always greeted with a smile or some kind of hand made treat. They make every experience special, and go out of there way to be unique. This is my salon, and you have to check it out. Express what you want and know that it takes time to achieve the look that you desire, but with patience and my amazing stylist you will get there!!. I have never had more amazing hair. It's easy to work with and feels completely natural and always looks great. I only use the products they recommend and can achieve the same look at home. Disappointed beyond words. i had been going to Studio 285 for over a year and I wanted to treat my daughter to a hair appointment.. She asked Brittany to have her dark brown hair lightened. After an hour, my daughter called me from the stylist chair in tears, because her hair was darker than her natural color and splotchy (lighter and darker in spots). She asked the stylist (who Brittany had pawned her off on) why it was so dark when she had asked for a lighter brown. The stylist kept saying it would take multiple trips to achieve a lighter color??? I pointed out that the color was darker than her color and it looked bad. Three hours later, my daughter walks to the front of the salon with orange hair. This is not the end of the story. I was charged two hundred dollars for a three hour appointment and a very upset daughter with orange hair. The price didn't even include a trim or style, not that it matters, when the color is botched. I feel so bad for my child, Hopefully we can find a good stylist to fix her hair.
