I've known Peter Hong since our college days and he was always the one getting things done behind the sound/mixing board. But his talents go beyond that. I went to a sold out concert at the iconic El Rey Theater in Los Angeles and there were 800+ people screaming loudly for LA hip hop legend Pigeon John and guess who was playing keyboard, Peter Hong. Mr. Rocks is a genius behind the boards. I was in Los Angeles a couple months ago in need of a studio and my good friend Tripmaster told me about Studio 5A. Many of my affiliates were out of town and/or preoccupied so I had no where to go to record a mandatory track for a company back home. Upon arrival, I already knew that this studio was upper echelon. To me, the most important factor besides sound quality is the vibe of the studio. His hospitality and eagerness for the track already made me feel at home and at the right spot. The reason why I call Rocks a genius behind the boards is because I didn't have to tell him what I wanted. Upon hearing the run through and instrumental of the track... he diligently and knowledgeably browsed through his plethora of filters and plug ins, and found the exact sound that I was looking for. (Less then 2 minutes... no exaggeration) You can tell when an engineer is experienced and a vet when he is able to leave his preference of sound to find that perfect accommodation for the client. He's a patient worker yet professional enough to get the best work ethic out of you. His recording area looks like the cockpit of a UFO. He has machines I've never even seen before with hardware that's not even available to the normal gearhead. And he's not the type of brother that buys a machine for aesthetics or visual credibility. He will learn, dissect and master each and every detail for every piece of hardware he has. I know this because during my mixdown he was explaining to me the 23 different ways or processes to reach the specific sound for the song using different combinations of the machines.... (I just nodded along and pretended like I knew what he was talking about! 'uh huh, sure, yes mr. rocks lol) All in all, this is not your typical recording studio. His client list speaks for itself. His music speaks for itself. He is respected by your favorite MC. AND he has more hotter girls in his studio then you will ever have in your whole life. 5A is 5 stars easy. read more

When I worked at LA CAFE (located right downstairs), Peter was a regular. He invited me in to check out the studio and the music he was working on. By listening to it, I knew he was a pro. The studio is not entirely huge, but makes great use of the space! You can record music, do a photoshoot, make a video, and even play MarioKart. Thanks for being a great host! Love this place. Top notch gear from the neumann mic to mixing/mastering hardware. But mostly, it's the people that make this studio a great place to work at. As an artist/client, it's difficult finding the right engineer. Peter and his team were very intuitive of my needs and even pushed me to take my music beyond my expectations. Couldn't be happier with my experience in working Peter and his studio is top notch. I met Mr. Rocks when he was performing with Pigeon John and my band Jupiter Rising opened for them. Super cool dude who knows his stuff. I've done a few sessions with him in his studio. He is easy to work with, professional and very quick. The environment of the studio is spacious yet comfortable. His studio is in the heart of the Downtown Los angeles art scene. He starts on time, makes sure there's always parking for me and is a good hang during the work process. 5A is an incredible studio and community that makes you feel confident and comfortable from start to finish. They respond to your emails incredibly fast and are very patient/helpful throughout the entire process. Their team is extremely knowledgeable and willing to take the time to explain when you don't understand something. I threw two projects at them recently that required a really fast turnaround time. No questions asked, they had both projects completed lightning quick. When talking to the owner Peter (THE MAN, THE LEGEND) he said that as a studio they want to ensure that every client--no matter how famous or not famous--gets exactly what they want at the highest quality. I went to 5A because of a gig for a TV pilot with Mandy Moore. Peter was a true professional as he had everything from charts, musical direction, and creative leadership totally under control. It's extremely rare to find a musical environment where creativity and excellence are not mutually exclusive of each other. 5A totally allows for creative juices to flow while producing excellence. Peter Hong is the man. I've worked with him quite a bit and have been satisfied each time. He recorded my band's first EP back in 2008 and i've worked with him ever since. What I like about him so much is that he's all about making the project better. There's some other producers i've worked with that really are about clocking in the hours to just get paid. They literally just record and that's it. No feedback..etc. Peter actually cares and is willing to give feedback, whether good or bad, to ensure the project gets better. I found this studio via Instagram and came in the other week to record a track for a personal project. The first thing that stuck out to me was the customer service. The guy who answered the phone, I believe Andre was his name, was extremely helpful in answering a few questions and even pointed me in the direction of what I would actually need. Just from this interaction and the pictures on ig, I was really excited to visit. Everyone there was super friendly and professional at the same time. They looked like they were all on the same page which stood out to me along with their technical precision, editing and explaining everything to me along the way. It is difficult to find a studio you feel comfortable in. Have been to many that haven't met my needs unreliable, lack of knowledge sometimes rude. Studio 5A has a great professional atmosphere with people who know what they're doing. Would recommend using them for any project. read more
