First of all this salon is so cute! The owner is a really sweet lady named Marlo that came around and checked on everyone to make sure they were doing ok. The stylist I saw was Brooklyn. I had never had a curly cut/deva cut so I decided why not? My hair went from "Blah" to "Heeeeey". I LOVE what she did and the shape she gave my hair. It frames me face so nice. The experience was enjoyable and the price was unbeatable for a curly cut! She instructed me how to sleep and to keep it looking it's best, and even what products to use. I just got my first pedicure from the Studio M Nail Lounge. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary nail shop. It's a new addition to the long standing Studio M Salon, owned and operated by Marlo Rasmussen. So if you know anything about Studio M or Marlo, you know she doesn't do anything half-***ed. And the Nail Lounge is no exception. The atmosphere is calm and soothing, with big comfy chairs and very personal service. Rose was my technician today for my pedicure and she was fantastic. I got the standard pedi, but it was not basic. It included an exfoliating scrub, hot steam towels, and a massage that was to die for. You know the massage you usually get at a typical nail shop - it's quick and a lot of rubbing in the same spot while your technician is looking elsewhere. Not with Rose. She took her time and didn't cut any corners. The massage is always my favorite part but it's usually short lived and disappointing. Again, not with Rose. And for an extra added plus, Marlo trimmed my bangs while I was there. I think I'll be coordinating my hair and nail appointments from now on - what a treat! read more

I usually think all spas/nail salons are the same but after coming here I have completely changed my mind! The salon is fabulous and the decor is not only nice to look at but also very comfortable. I had a gel mani pedi and Rose was excellent. She used nice, luxurious products and made me feel spoiled. I have been going to Marlo for about 10 years! She takes excellent care of me and my hair - I first went to her because she knew how to work with my sometimes curly/wavy sometimes straight hair. She proactively comes up with ideas that work for me when I'm not very creative - I don't use must product and never use a blow dryer. She even took time out if her day to teach me how to use a straightener when I thought that could be fun but had no clue how to use one. It's always a pleasant experience in the salon. He we are two years later and it was one of the best beauty decessions I have made. She is incredibly kind and really knows her stuff when it comes to cuts and color. Naturally I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to coloring my hair and I'm even more particular with who I pick to color it, but Nicole's talented skills definitely hit the nail on the head every time! My hair is extremely difficult to color since it's super thick and coarse and the ideas I have for my hair can definitely not be achieved by doing this myself. I found Studio M through Yelp and decided to give it a try because of all the positive reviews. I have curly hair and was getting the Deva Cut at another salon in Alameda, but I wasn't all that impressed and it was really pricey. It's hard to find a stylist and/or salon that knows how to work with curly hair. I specifically requested an appointment with Nicole at Studio M because one of the reviewers said she did a great job with curly hair. I'm always a little nervous trying out a new place, but I'm so glad that I did! The salon is clean and nicely decorated. The other stylists were really friendly and welcoming. Nicole was AWESOME!!! When my stylist Jillian told me she was moving to Studio M, of course I followed her there. Jillian has been doing my hair for at least 12 years. She has an attention to detail like no other stylist I've been to. She knows what works and what won't work with my hair type and when I come to her with a new style, she will let me know if it won't work. I trust her completely and have never had a bad experience with her. I also am super lazy when it comes to styling my hair myself, and she will give me a cut that styles itself. She also does amazing color. I highly recommend Jillian, especially for curly/wavy hair like mine. Studio M is a really nice space.
