It is always hit and miss trying to find someone that understands what look you are trying to achieve and sometimes the reality is it's not possible because your hair texture may not be the same as the photo you are trying to replicate. Cassie gave me a fantastic haircut! I've never been to Studio One Salon before and by sheer luck I got Cassie. What a gem! My daughter and friends all said the length & style really suited me & knocked at least 10 years off my face! I'm so pleased with the layers and length & she cut movement and much needed shape to my long overdue hair. And the true test of an superb haircut is after I washed and styled my hair that I could replicate the just-left-the-salon-look myself without using Velcro rollers! She was meticulous in cutting and full of suggestions on how best to wear my bangs and that my hair suited me better blow dried, flatter etc. And she was absolutely right! Its hard to find a excellent hairstylist like Cassie who can do magic with scissors plus see other styles suiting you that you can't see yourself. So I came here on a whim, calling in a panic when the blow dry bar I had originally scheduled with me told me they actually couldn't honor my appointment. With 15% left on my phone, I Googled blow dry near me and Studio One popped up first. Despite my strange conversation of very few words with the receptionist (I wasn't sure if they had time for me to come in or not at the end of our conversation, so I had to ask for clarification) and the *interesting* location, I was pleasantly surprised. I'll be honest: I didn't have high expectations, and I was reluctant to open the door of the salon, worrying that the interior and it's staff may be equally as lacking as the exterior appearance. But rest assured, Studio One Salon is beautiful inside. Ava, who greeted me, turned out to be my stylist. I just wanted my hair washed and blow dried because let's be real... I don't even own a blow dryer. I am typically an all-natural, keratin oil, sea salt spray, call it a day type of gal. My hair is very long with no layers *anymore*, as I am terrified to cut it and run the risk of someone hacking off the beautiful locks I've spent so long growing and nurturing (whatever split ends...) I have NO idea what's cool in the hair styling world, but Ava was there to save the day! Not only was she the sweetest chick-- super easy to talk to, soft spoken, exceptionally inquisitive about my preferences. She dealt with my long, plain, dirty hair without batting an eye. She even came up with a simple, elegant style for the holiday party I was attending when I had absolutely no direction at all for her. She was precise in her work. I am OCD and watched her twirl each perfectly measured strand around her curling wand effortlessly to my satisfaction. She didn't over-spray my hair with products, she was conservative, and she didn't give me an overdone prom hairstyle. I felt super hip and satisfied! ;) And all at a lesser cost than a blow dry bar, might I mention. The owner even stopped in to compliment Ava's work. My plan is to revisit Ava again ASAP for the HAIRCUT *gasp!* I so desperately need. In fact, I was about to call to schedule until I remembered today is Monday, and they are closed. :( If this review was solely based on Ava, I would give all 5 stars without hesitation. The only reason I am docking a star is because this is about the salon, and the receptionist I encountered was incredibly awkward (or rude?) and unprofessional. I have been coming to studio one for over 17 years and come back not only because they are the best at everything, but they are a cohesive team and treat their clients like family. The owner is so great to her team, and it shows as they are always happy and go that extra mile. I was just checking out and was told that there was a longtime client in one of the chairs...she had just lost her daughter in the Vegas shooting. The owner of the studio was torn up about it, and wanted to give this mother a gift to lift her spirits. She put together a beautiful gift bag and while she was gathering items to put in it, you could see the tears rolling down her cheeks. I feel so lucky to truly love not only the great job their stylists do, but how compassionate and caring this team is. It's 4pm on a Sunday & I felt terrible for calling to see if I could possibly get my hair dyed so last minute & late in the day. I called & spoke with Danielle- she jumped through HOOPS to get me in to her salon the same day. I thought "wow, if I'm getting such great customer service & follow through over the phone with the owner, I can't wait to see the work they will do with my hair!!". My stylist, Katelyn, was wonderful! She listened to my concerns (never dyed my hair & looking for something low maintenance) & my ideas, gave me her expert options & we were able to agree on a balayage & scattered highlights under and around the rest of my hair. As I was walking to my car another woman named Rena from the salon overheard and said wait I'll give you a free a haircut tomorrow since that was not right. I'm not sure what the stylist who did my hair did but my extensions have never been more tangled & dreaded up... literally it feels like I've been suffering ever since getting them sewn back in here and I will not be going back. I think she never brushed them out right to begin with and almost left them tangled and teased at the root / weft. My hair has never been this hard to manage it's unbearable.. from the moment I left I had to pull hairs through that were half stuck with the strings and every single day like after an hour of super detangling & brushing my hair is dreaded up & I have terrible split ends now. Also they are hard to hide and show way more than they have before. I should have went back but I hate having to complain & why would I want to go back to someone who didn't do it right in the first place? Just gives me anxiety. Not to mention she didn't understand what I wanted with my color either. Ever since moving to Thousand Oaks from LA I have not been able to find someone who can actually do my hair right. I debated writing this as I hate to complain, but when you pay good money for something and then it is not good, I guess you have a right to complain. First, I told Rose that I wear my bangs long to my eyebrows. She cut them to the middle of my forehead - something very embarrassing to be seen with. Now I have to push my hair to the side because I won't be seen with these short bangs. Second, when I was there she made me lie with my head on the sink for 5 minutes she said for the toner to work. Never have I had to lie on a sink before. That caused my neck pain for days. Third, I don't know if she was in a hurry or what, but my long hair which I told her I wanted it cut straight, looks like a rat chewed it off. I'll have to go to my old hairdresser who was out of town last week as I was desperate to get my color fixed, and have her fix it. The color which was supposed to be highlights, are not like highlights I have had in the past - even I had gone to her before and they didn't look like this. Not much showing for highlights, however, it was better than when I went in with about 4 inches of root. read more

First of all not only did she fry my hair badly she also gave me a horrible uneven awkward hair cut. She then goes on to tell me that people don't trust her because she's 22...age is just a number at the end of the day but experience is huge...She has absolutely none! Guys aren't usually ones to have an opinion on a place like a hair salon but I genuinely had an enjoyable experience here, call it serendipity. I came in on a recommendation and was very well taken care of, even got free coffee The staff is very professional, upbeat and fun. I worked with their stylist Brittany who I would like to now HIGHLY reccommend. My old stylist never really got creative with my sessions but Brit completely changed my look, 5 stars all around! The location, workstations, tools, stools, and equipment are also very clean for those who enjoy a business that values a sanitary, presentable ambiance They also donate hair to centers for those in need which I really admired All around memorable experience! read more
