Long story short, my hair turned out fine but I will never go back…read more Way back on April 16, I made an appointment for myself and my DIL to have blowouts for a wedding for my son's best friend. I made the appointment for 1:30pm on July 26, a Sunday afternoon. A friend made a separate appointment for her and her daughter-in-law at the same appointment time. On June 26 I received a text from the salon inquiring about our hair length and thickness to make sure we were booked for appropriate length of time. Great! Confidence inspired. The week of our appointments, on Tuesday and on Saturday, I received emailed appointment confirmation requests that required me to click on a link to confirm which I did each time. The emails also advised if we were late or cancelled we would be subject to a $25 fee. Totally fine because this is for a wedding and important--not cancelling and certainly not showing up late. At 11:50AM on the date of the appointment, I get a text asking if we can come in at 1:45pm instead of 1:30pm. I replied that no-we really can't. We have a wedding. Whoever it was texting replied--no problem--1:30pm is fine! We all four show up at 1:30pm which was apparently far from "fine". No one started on my hair until 2:05pm. The other 3 had theirs in progress at varying times later than 1:40pm. At no time did the receptionist come over to where I was sitting to offer any kind of explanation. She walked past me multiple times with no eye contact, no offer to refill water. I am starting to go in full panic mode as we were supposed to bring lunch and drinks to the groomsmen, I still need to walk back to the Hyatt, do makeup, get dressed, get the food and catch a shuttle to the wedding that is 15 minutes away. My stylist apologized when she finally started my appointment and said she had to "finish another girl up." They had to have either squeezed someone else in knowing that there was not adequate time (hence their text) or a person showed up late. Either way, 35 minutes late to start my appointment that they confirmed several times and then told me "1:30pm was fine" is absolutely unacceptable. When I went up to pay, there was no apology, no offer of a discount. I didn't blow my top because at that point, why? There's no way I'd entrust them again with keeping a schedule on an important day. I had to have someone else pick up the food. And mind you, this was a military wedding. Do you know how often I get to see my son and buy he and his friends lunch on an ordinary day, much less on an important day? Not very often. Rare in fact! I wish I would have done my own hair and saved myself the stress! Nothing like paying someone for panic.

This Drybar in Reston is great, but Mae is the reason I keep coming back. With her, I always get the results I want -- and with others, I never quite did. Mae listens, she gets it, and she delivers every single time. I always end up going back to her because I know I'll leave happy and confident with my hair exactly the way I like it. Even after I moved, I still drive over an hour just for Mae to do my hair -- that's how good she is. When you find someone like that, you don't let them go.

Whether I want to go shorter, get curtain bangs, grow out my hair, or change the way my layers look, he executes it beautifully every time. He really takes the time to understand what you want and makes sure you leave loving your hair. I've never left disappointed, and I always get so many compliments after seeing him! Mark is also so easy to talk to and makes every appointment such a great experience. I have a lot of hair and rarely fully trust anyone with it, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a talented, consistent, and trustworthy hairstylist!

This salon seems to have a good vibe and a lot of young clients, so I thought it would be a good…read moreoption for my college age daughter. Unfortunately, she said she did not have a great experience and would probably not go back again. She said her stylist showed up late, and never acknowledged or apologized for it, and that they also kept checking their phone during her appointment. (Update based on owner feedback: My daughter received a message before her appointment indicating that she needed to plan for parking issues due to the Farmer's Market taking place, and that she would be charged a late fee if she wasn't on time. So, stylists are aware they need to plan for parking too.) She also said that after finishing the cut (before blowdry), they turned her toward the mirror and then said "uh oh" (not very comforting) because one side was noticeably longer than the other. To even it up, they had to cut more than she had been wanting to in length. The final downside was that, even though she was booked for a "long hair" cut, which is more expensive than a standard cut, she was charged an additional and unexpected $20 for having thick hair. (Update: Yes, the stylist told her up front, but the point here being that it's not made clear when booking that there's a potential additional charge for thick hair on top of long hair. Just putting out awareness for other people.) The only saving grace is that she at least liked the haircut and final result. (Final update: My daughter disputes some of the owner feedback, but I wasn't there. My review was not intended to provide a sweeping generalization of the stylist or the salon - just my daughter's experience, which might be very isolated and rare. It's why I didn't name or in any way identify the stylist because maybe this was just a one-off situation.)
