She put so much detail into my dress, including unstitching parts of an embroidered layer and reworked things as we went along if she didn't think they turned out well. The good: Chris was very friendly and responsive via email. Booking the initial consultation is easy through the website. The bad: Most wedding dress alteration places I looked at in the DC area offered free 1 hour consultations. Chris charges you a $75 fee for even an initial consultation (can be applied to the final alteration cost). I booked her because she was conveniently located. I had to cancel the appointment due to an emergency (done 48 hours in advance). Despite mentioning this, I was told the refund was non-refundable. When I did the initial online booking, there was no mention of this policy and in fact, it stated you needed to give 36 hours notice prior to the appointment for a refund (I thoroughly read the fine print). I would never have booked a consultation with such a strict, non-refundable policy. The website appears to have been updated to state the non-refundable policy more clearly now. Bottom line: I would only book for wedding dress alterations with Chris if you are 100% sure you are going with her. There is a NON-REFUNDABLE initial consultation fee. I would consider checking out other tailors who have free consultations so you don't lose $75 if you decide otherwise. read more

Chris is AMAZING! I ordered a cheap wedding dress from China and Chris altered the neckline, added a bustle, and did everything else to make it fit me and look beautiful. She was really accommodating schedule-wise and fine with meeting me at 8:30 pm on a Tuesday. The alterations were really complex because of the lace overlay, but Chris had a really fast turnaround. Chris is awesome. She helped me alter my first wedding dress, and then my second... When I decided I didn't love my first dress, she was patient with me. Deciding on my second dress, she took out the synthetic layer that was in the dress, and added something more breathable, also making it a bit wider so i could dance. She hemmed the dress expertly. She also went the extra distance to help me look for lace that I had wanted to add to my dress, and would text me whenever she was at a fabric store. This is a review of Chris' intro to sewing class. It was amazing! She took the time to make sure I understood how to use my machine and its different functions and suggested good resources and starter projects. The lesson never felt rushed and she was very patient. She also offered to let me stop by if I ever felt stuck and needed help on a project! F you read my other reviews you see that 5 is rare for me. I have NO idea why Chris doesn't have more reviews. I just wrote this on yelp so I am copying and pasting from there. Okay knotties - I'm a DC living bride that's getting married out of town. I'd been renting a zip car and driving otu to Estee for an amazing priced alterations - $150 to take the dress down a few sizes, add a bustle, etc. It was a TON of work and Estee was wonderful. However, once I added up renting zip and the time it took to drive out to MD I thought it probably ended up catching me a bunch more. Anyway, cut to the chase. A week before the wedding I changed dresses (ha I know after all that). What could I do in a week? I needed some alterations done and Estee was too busy. I searched around and took a chance. Hadn't seen a lot of reviews but ultimately after chatting with Chris on the phone I knew it was a great fit. Long story short DC BRIDES you MUST try Chris! She COMES TO YOUR HOUSE!!! I scheduled a fit-by-fit session and just brought the pieces I wanted to go through with her to the studio, though she usually meets people at their homes and goes through their closets - super convenient! Her passion for her craft showed in every part of my experience. The facility is clean, bright, and pleasant. Chris was on time, professional, pleasant, and very straight-forward and thorough. I felt totally comfortable going through each piece, and working out what we could fix and what I should let go. The turnaround time was reasonable, and ready for me to pick up right on schedule. New in town and just bought a bunch of professional outfits for work and needed someone trustworthy to alter them because they were expensive. Brought them here and Chris did an amazing job. Knew exactly what to do and did it. It was a little pricey but she did such a good job that I didn't mind at all. She hemmed some pants, brought in the waist, fixed up a dress, and hemmed the sleeves of a jacket. Everything looks and fits much better now. I visited Chris to get my measurements before ordering the dress and when it came, it was almost the perfect size. However, I wanted to actually dance during my wedding (it didn't allow for much movement in the thighs) and the bust was a little too big.
