I was hoping to find a salon to go to here in the bay area after living here for a full decade. And I can say that I had better quality hair care during my time in Los Angeles. I went to this salon about three weeks ago based on reviews here on Yelp, ironically. I was a little alarmed at how unskilled the assistant the stylist had working with her was, and I think she may have left the toner on too long because she rushed me to the wash station. In the end after I got home and looking in the mirror, I was shocked. They completely gave me an incorrect shade of blonde and over the past few washes the toner has left it looking like a drab Dijon mustard color. I had called the salon immediately to let them know. I really wasn't happy with the color and I was considering going back for a fix. However, it occurred to me that if they messed it up the first time they likely would not be able to fix it. I'm planning a tiny wedding on a tiny budget for later this year and saved up $500 for my hair. It was the worst waste of money, I hate my hair, and now I'm I am going to go to my former Los Angeles stylist before a business trip because it's the only option I think I have. I would avoid the salon if you're a blonde. I'm still stinging over the $500 (!!! Insane!) I wish I could get it all back. read more

Excellent haircut by Moni Valdivia! I went from med-long hair to a long bob with layers, and it was fabulous. I would have loved fewer and "straighter curls" during styling but nothing I can't fix later. It's hard to find people who can nail the long bob cut in one go and Moni was able to understand what I wanted and delivered. I was able to make a last minute appointment. I strongly advise against visiting this salon for hair coloring services. My experience was utterly disappointing. My hair ended up with a golden,green+blue and yellowish tint, which was completely unexpected and not what I had requested. The stylist clearly lacked the expertise to execute a proper hair color. I had shown her four or five images of the desired color, emphasizing the need to conceal my gray hair and avoid any yellowish undertones. However, after the hair wash and blow dry, it looked completely different to what I had envisioned. I initially thought it might be due to the lighting conditions at the salon. I had work to attend to, so I booked an uber and left. Upon returning home, I discovered that the color was indeed different. It had a golden and yellowish hue with a subtle mix of blue and green shades on the back. The different color wasn't visible to me as it was on the back side of the head. Somebody pointed it and then I realised that there are different color shades. The grey hair was visible on the front. The NEXT DAY, I reached out to the salon to express my concerns. The stylist suggested that I come back and she would add a different toner. However, I felt that if the stylist had been more expert & attentive to my preferences when I showed her the images, she could have achieved the desired result on the first go. I made it clear that I would not be paying for a redo of my hair, which would likely cause further damage, and asked for the refund. Surprisingly, the salon owner offered a refund of $113, which included the cost of the toner and blowout. However, I was shocked to find that she had added the blowout service, which I had not requested. This is typically a complimentary service provided by the salon. When I brought this to her attention, she revised her offer to include the $113 refund and the $20 tip. I even requested a partial refund of the amount I had paid, but she didn't respond to that. While the stylist who colored my hair was a nice person , but my primary concern was getting my hair colored and not building a friendly relationship with her. I had clearly communicated my preferences, but they were not met. As a result, my hair looks terrible, and I will have to spend another $400-$500 to get it done at a new salon. I have attached the images of what I asked for and what they did. The owner also lied on my google review that I reached out to them after several days and I told the stylist that I LOVED the color. Seven years it took me to find someone who understood me and what I done on my hair. I started off with peewee Sherman. She was awesome. Where do I begin? I went in on a Saturday. Spent 5 hours in the chair. Had printed out my inspiration photo and it sat on the counter the entire time. My hair, which was brown before my appointment, was completely blonde when I left. I told the stylist that I wanted blonde balayage. I never told her I wanted to be completely blonde. If she looked at the photo I gave her, she would have seen that. Nevertheless, it can be awkward to express dissatisfaction right then and there, plus it was almost 9pm and I just wanted to go home. The stylist suggested I use purple shampoo/conditioner. I bought some there before I left. Come to find out, that was the worst advice she could have given me. The very next day after my first wash (so, day three of the new color), my hair was turning gold. As I write this, about 3 weeks after my visit, the toner in my hair has completely faded and I look like the lead singer of Motley Crü. Not cute. Okay, so I did not know how to contact the stylist directly, so I went to the salon's website and emailed them there. I had no idea it was going to the owner. I expressed my dissatisfaction. THREE days later, I received a response that, in a nutshell, said "we are very sorry for your dissatisfaction, but since you seemed happy about it when you left, it doesn't seem like you're looking for us to fix it, so we wish you the best with finding another salon." I was SHOCKED. I wrote back and kindly said, no, I do want you to fix it. I never said I didn't want that. A couple days later, the owner responded again and said, "the stylist doesn't feel comfortable working with you now that you escalated the situation to the owner. Trust and communication has been broken. We stand behind our stylist. Here's a $100 refund so you can get your toner fixed somewhere else. Good luck!" I was BAFFLED. Why is she treating me like this? What did I do wrong??? I wrote back and explained that it was never my intention to "escalate" the situation. I simply did don't know how to contact the stylist. I also thanked her for the $100 refund (which I had not even received by this point), but asked for a full refund instead. I said, 1) you refused to even hear me out and explain what went wrong, and 2) you refused to fix my hair. So what happened next? A few minutes later I got an email that said, "you have a $100 refund from Studio W Salon." I couldn't believe it. I spent over $400 there, so I will be filing a dispute with my bank. The owner has serious issues. She treats paying clients like absolute garbage. She has this arrogance about her like she can do no wrong, and if you don't like it then bye. Who runs a client-service business like that? It's truly mind boggling to me. Please do not go here. If you aren't happy with your hair, you are f*cked. read more

UPDATE: So Mercedes fit me into her schedule and she fixed the hair. It's still not exactly what I wanted but it's definitely much better than how it looked on Friday. I paid $450 for hair I didn't want. It looks good in general, but it's not what I wanted. Mercedes did my hair and I found it weird that she really only looked at the inspo photo once. She lightened my hair, toned it, and then styled it. I was thinking like "where's the color though" and "why does it look SOOO light". She lightened up my hair all the way to the roots and I asked her can we darken up the roots and so she did. She added chocolate color while rinsing my hair so I thought it would look darker but after she dried it, it still looked light. I think the main reasons why I'm SO frustrated over this hair is because (1) I feel like she basically just did her own balayage without really trying to do something similar to the inspo pic, (2) I was previously told by the salon that ANY of their stylists can recreate the hair from the inspo pic, and (3) I paid $450 for hair I didn't want. I have my graduation photoshoot in FOUR days and I KNEW I didn't want to schedule the hair appointment this close to the photoshoot just in case it doesn't come out the way I wanted. But the salon said it's better to do it within the same week so the hair looks fresh. So in the end, I'm thinking of either going to another salon to get this hair fixed, or pushing back my photoshoot. Two things I do NOT want to do. I won't be coming back to Studio W. read more

DO NOT USE Katherine Arbues IF you have CURLY/TEXTURED HAIR!!! she did not fully pay attention to what I wanted my bang trim to be. I asked her to cut along the bangs the previous hairstylist at this establishment had cut for me. She had to ask TWICE if my hair is naturally curly which it is. i already stopped her the first time she wanted to cut my bangs above my eyebrow when I specifically asked for it to be cut BELOW the eyebrow bc my hair curls making it SHORTER. Proceeds to cut my bangs above my eyebrow anyway. Then cut it even more short when she realizes she messed up. I never wanted straight or curved bangs nor did I ever ask for them. she Gave me MIRCOBANGS?! I wanted a simple bang trim for my birthday but now I cry each time I look into the mirror. A refund isn't enough to undo the emotional damage this cut has done. I need people to see how she let me leave this establishment. read more

I informed the stylist before hand my hair needs high heat to hold a curl as I was needing my hair done for a photoshoot and mind u I have very long hair. I even gave the stylist a reference picture. The stylist did not take the time part my hair and make sure it was in the middle, she just curled my hair with my hair being parted how I came in. The curls were flat as soon as I got up out the chair. I did ask for them to add a little more volume in the top of my head but it did not work. I had to go home and CURL MY HAIR ALL OVER AGAIN which defeats the point of me going in to have someone else curl my hair. The people were very nice to me. I brought my 9 year-old daughter to see Cait for her first short haircut ever. My daughter, P, is an active tomboy and it was time for a pixie! P was a little apprehensive about cutting her shoulder-length hair, but Cait helped us both feel super comfortable and at ease. Cait listened to what we wanted, took her time, and worked meticulously as she transformed P's hair from a messy, heavy, difficult to maintain style that was lacking texture, to a short, feminine, low-maintenance, confidence-boosting style with lots of texture, and that matches her personality!
