    Pee stain Mattress

This is in response to the Business Managers reply to my review. The night managers said he had already glued the blinds once. So, they had been broken before my stay. The shower needed a liner to go with the fabric curtain. The stains on the mattress are the color of pee. The handicapped parking spaces are not accessible with a dumpster in the space. The room smelled of sewer or mold. There are others who have posted the same experience with the awful sewer/ mold smell. I would NEVER post a review that was not truthful. I am attaching 4 photos that where taken at the time of my stay.

I lived here for about 3 months during the summer of 2007, and I can honestly say, I'd move back in for a short stint again without batting an eye. First and foremost, the location is absolutely fantastic. I unknowingly chose this complex for my temporary residence, and only after a week or so did I truly realize how fortunate I was in living here. First off, its close to the 880 and 280 going either way on both; getting on the 280 towards Cupertino is even a pleasure by taking Monroe to Tisch Way straight onto the freeway (while avoiding the glob of lights/traffic that is Stevens Creek Blvd to get to Winchester. The upscale shopping area of Santana Row and the familiarity of the normal mall that is Valley Fair are just to the west and north, respectively. There's even a little back way you can walk right into Santana Row by going just a bit more west down Hemlock Ave. All in all, the location is top-notch for San Jose in my book with plenty of activities/shopping/food nearby. The actual place itself was very nice -- it definitely is still reminiscent of the hotel it undoubtedly once was, but they have literally upgraded everything about it. The decor in the lobby/halls is nice and calming, the grounds (which aren't much really) are nice and well-taken-care-of, and the parking lot is always clean with at least a few spaces almost always available. The gated parking was nice as well (though there is also plenty of on-street parking if you don't want to pay the $30 or so extra per month). The keys you get when you sign-up for a short-term lease here are interesting and decidedly high-tech, and it took me a couple days to get used to using them. One thing I can say -- DO NOT FORGET YOUR KEY when leaving. I made the mistake twice (I never learn) of going out to the car really quick to get something and forgetting my key. Make a note: you cannot get back into the side/back entrances to the building without the key, though the front door is always unlocked during business hours. At any rate, the amenities are nice (washer/dryer room, larger community kitchen with a stove, HUGE public rooms with big-screen TVs on floors 1 and 3, and a tiny but still adequate "gym" on the second floor. The room was tiny at 250 sq ft for a studio, but you get used to it if you are alone and doing a long-term stay on business. I happened to stay at the TownPlace Suites just down the street for a weekend with visitors, and the place seemed like a mansion. The rooms are decorated with a light-theme (white walls, carpet and linens with light wood for cabinetry). The kitchenette has granite counters, a generous sink, a 3/4 scale refrigerator, microwave, 2-burner flat-surface range (very nice), and plenty of storage. They give you once place-setting (utensils, plate, bowl, small plate, glass, and a coffee mug), and you can ask for other items such as a pan and flapper for cooking, a vacuum when you need it, and other things. The three people who worked the front desk when I was there were so nice and helpful -- just ask! The bathroom is a similar affair: granite counter-top, tiled floor, shower/tub combo with a removable/adjustable shower head and a sliding door. They also give you towels when you move in, along with bed linens, pillows, and an extra blanket. The bed itself is comfy enough, it was a full-size so its big enough for most people. The TV/DVD flat screen is big enough, and you get a bit more than basic cable, which is nice. The "closet" is nice and right in front of the bed, next to the makeshift computer desk. Note: this is where the internet Cat-5 cable is located if you pay for the internet service. I kind of wanted wireless, but the cable is big enough, and lets face it -- the place it small, so you can still carry the laptop around nearly the ENTIRE apartment. Overall, I liked this place and would move back for a short 3-month stay again. The only downsides were the room was sometimes small, and the price is definitely hefty ($1,750 per mo w/o parking or internet), but it is silicon valley and they do short-term leases. Its a bit less expensive than staying at an Extended Stay America or some-such place, plus after a while, it didn't quite seem like a "hotel" at all. I recommend!

I wish I could write a better review but I'm so disappointed by what was previously a great place to rent. The buildings are quite dated and the updates that have been made are of the cheapest quality. The old carpeting in the buildings was replaced last year...we all thought what had been placed was the liner and the installation people would be returning to lay the actual carpet. No...the carpet is just that thin and it causes sound to reverberate through the halls. The vinyl flooring in some units is cheap quality and poorly installed, so that it's constantly lifting. They continue to permit cigarette smoking on patios and balconies, and public areas around the site, which means there's smoke coming in through the windows, patio/balcony doors, and vents, regardless of whether you smoke. The complex spent three years and a lot of money to update the property, with the pool and hot tub, bbq area, and clubhouse were all unavailable during this time. The big reveal after all the work reflected that the only thing changed for residents was a nicer bbq area. The pool and hot tub, and all the chaises, tables, and umbrellas are the same that have been there since my initial residency. The clubhouse, which is only open during the management's working hours (unless reserved for a private event), is gorgeous but the main change is a remodel of the office space. The management and facilities staff are the only people who use the "clubhouse," and in great part due to the hours it's accessible as well as the fact that whenever someone goes in there, it feels as if you're interrupting the office staff having their breaks, hanging out and snacking, etc. All the parking spots were redesignated this past year as "assigned" spots, in a clear attempt to increase income for the management company. Residents must pay an additional fee monthly to reserve a spot, covered or not, and there are virtually no unassigned spots for additional resident cars or guests. The office staff regularly "patrol" the parking area for parkers who aren't "registered" and when discovering someone, send an email blast to the entire community calling out the car's identifying details and threatening to have the vehicle towed within a certain number of minutes if it's not moved. During weekends, the Springwood staff tend to park in the spots reserved for "new residents." Management sends email frequently admonishing residents that they've "been told" they cannot have anything on their balconies/patios, hallways, lobbies, etc. as if the residents are young children. I don't like when people break rules meant to ensure people's enjoyment of their rented home either, but there's a way to do this respectfully and a way to make people feel bad. When there are problems with the laundry room machines, the office staff will not assist. The response is that they haven't been trained on how to use the equipment or its software and residents have to contact the vendor (which never seems to result in a response). A dryer has been non-functional for months but despite numerous requests, the management staff have done nothing to ensure that it's repaired or replaced. With only 4 washers and 4 dryers per building, having one out of order creates a difficult situation for residents trying to do their laundry. On the plus side, the maintenance staff are without exception friendly and responsive. The apartments are in a great location and the people living there are generally quite nice, but there are few amenities and the management staff sometimes make residents feel like interlopers.

Most of the apartments I found in San Jose are newer (which is fine!), but I wanted something with a more loft-y, artsy vibe to it. Twohy doesn't disappoint. The walls are super thick, too; I never heard my neighbors...only sounds from the street outside. Also, bonus: it's a small community, and management is very attentive and responsive. Everyone I ever met there was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic. So much to walk to. Safeway's right there for groceries, plus tons of bars and food in all price ranges (from cheap mexican to expensive steakhouses) it's all right there! You also have a movie theater right next door and MUJI across the street, not to mention VTA literally right outside your front door. Amenity-wise, included in rent was a parking spot in the Safeway parking lot (not a guaranteed spot, but I never had to park on the street even during the busy Christmas season), a gym membership at the gym across the street, and water/sewage/garbage. There are no laundry hookups in-unit, but there is a laundry room in the basement which is nice. The units have a small but lovely kitchen with decent appliances and nice fixtures in the bathroom, wood floors (YAY), tall ceilings, and huge windows which means lots of light. It's not a huge space, but then again I didn't need much space, and preferred to live in a great area of town vs having a ton of room. Overall I adored living there. If my job hadn't taken me up to the north end of the bay, I wouldn't have left! I highly recommend Twohy to those looking for a unique space in downtown San Jose.

The building is pretty old and has nice charm. All the units are studios of various sizes and include a real kitchen (with fridge, sink, dishwasher, stove, oven microwave)... something not all studios offer. Not to mention AC which is great. Overall the places are nicely remodeled with hardwood, high ceilings and big windows. Only problem is the windows are single pained, letting in a LOT of noise, especially on the VTA side. Another drawback is the TV situation. They are not wired for cable (comcast or ATT), dish network is available but wasnt wired down passed the 4th floor... and direcTV is available but NOT in HD...good grief! The rent is not cheap, i think the cheapest (when I moved in) was around $1280 and I believe that was with some discounts for a 12 month lease. However, my rent came with a Bally's membership (right across the street) and parking at the 2nd/San Carlos garage... not bad. If it wasn't so expensive I'd give it 4 stars. Add some dual pained windows and Comcast or ATT cable lines (or direcTV HD lines) and it could be 5 stars. Overall its ok, location is great but there are some drawbacks.

Today, two of us were walking through chatting, and a Meadows property manager/worker yelled at us from across the parking lot, maybe 40 yards away, asking who we were. Thinking he had mental issues or a salesman, we kept walking. He then approached and harassed us, screaming about how we were trespassing, continuing verbal abuse and harassment and followed us until we left the property. We talked quietly, did not approach anyone, hang door tags, play music, or toss trash. We didn't go into the center apartment area. We're both computer professionals. This employee could have gotten on his golf cart and quietly told us sorry we cannot walk thru his parking lot and to kindly exit the premises. Instead, he chose to yell threateningly across a parking lot and come after us with verbal abuse. A good way to judge apartment management is how they treat visitors. Because as residents, you're going to get more of that - or worse. Stay away from this complex.

Meadows is very safe and it's also in a good location - it is right off of Central expressway and it's close to 237 and 101. Apartment was spacious as well. I also thought the gym was great and bigger than a lot of other apartment gyms so amenities as good here. There is a community pool as well. The management company was very responsive with service requests. We had an issue where the central AC was spewing out dead bugs so the maintenance team quickly came in and gave us a new AC. Meadows also hosts some events every couple months (coffee station, Easter egg hunt, food trucks, etc.) which made the apartment complex feel more like a community. One of the drawbacks about this complex is the lack of natural light in the some of the apartments. Because of all the tall redwood trees and the direction of our apartment, we didn't get much light. For the most part, we had our lamps turned on all the time. And because of the trees, leaves would fall into our balcony so we had to frequently clean that up. We decided to leave once the lease was up as we found a place with more natural light closer to our offices and meadows was going to increase the rent by $250 a month. If it wasn't for the light situation, probably would have continued to stay here. Overall I enjoyed living here, and if you are ok with less natural light or you are able to get an apartment facing the right direction, then I recommend!
