It wasn't painful as I thought. He said breathe, applying a little pressure, push push, and breathe out. It was that easy. I settled on a Tragus and Flat Helix. I absolutely love them. I'm praying no infection with constant cleaning (2x a day) and great healing. The girls up-front were phenomenal. They were all positive and reassuring. I had a great experience at studs. I was nervous but the staff were very friendly. The attendant greeted us when we walked in, and she helped me decide on which piercings to get and showed all the jewelry options. After signing the waiver I got called back by my piercer (Kayla), who was friendly and made sure the markings were in a good spot before then I got pierced. I received aftercare instructions by both the piercer and the store attendant as I checked out. I will be coming back to studs if I decide to get more piercings. :) read more

This location is extremely clean and easy to access as long as you find parking or are coming in via public transportation or Uber. They accept walk-ins and they also take appointments, which is what I did. I recommend showing up 15 minutes before your appointment so that you can sign the waiver and select your jewelry. Even though you have an appointment that piercer will check your anatomy to ensure that you can actually get the piercing. Everyone is very helpful and will guide you through the process. They offer different kinds of jewelry and I want to make a note that they sell solid gold. I will definitely come back to get some more piercings once this one is healed. The only reason I gave them 4 out of 5 is that they claim To have special promos during certain times of the day and encourage you to book online so you can get the promo but they never actually apply the promo in store which is deceiving. Overall, there were some negatives and positives to this place. I got my 3rd lobe pierced recently. The customer service was good at the front desk. There were some kind women & helpful for picking out what I wanted. However, they did not tell me the earrings were PER earring. So, what I thought would be around $150 ended up being almost $275. I wish they would have told my friend and I more directly that it was each ear and not a pair of two. Another thing that bothered me was my piercer. Her name was Kayla. She wasn't very nice. My friend and I were having fun and she made us feel a little awkward. I asked what they use to pierce & she said in condescending tone "A needle...?" When she went to pierce my first one, she misunderstood how thick the skin was and the needle didn't make it through so she had to jam it again through - which was actually very painful. All she said was "but you're not in THAT much pain are you?" No apology. The second one was better but probably cause she knew from the first. Green flag was she sanitized everything so that went well. But, my right ear does hurt/bleed so it makes me question if she pierced too high. read more

Awesome experience! Got my sixth piercing here and it had been a while since i had gotten one but the folks at STUDS made it a super easy and comfortable time. From booking an appointment to paying at the end i would say everything was seamless. They even allowed my friends and i to go together which was great for some of us who were a little nervous. Would not recommend. Went in the middle of the day during the week where it wasn't as busy, but I still felt rushed through my appointment to get in and get out. I was getting my third lobe piercing and I told my piercer that these were the last ones I was going to get in my lobes so I wanted them to look evenly spaced out. As you can see from the photos, they were not evenly spaced out at all. The third piercing I got is so close to my last piercing and also too low that it just looks bad. I don't know how she mis-pierced from the dot placement and it's wild because she specifically said that she would make sure to include some distance between the piercings. I got my last piercings done at Studs and had a positive experience, but I will not be going back after this botched job. read more

Went for double lobe piercings and it was a great experience. From making the appointment to checking out, everyone was so nice and professional. Initially was going to do a walk-in but the day we went they were only taking appointments. The day of my appointment was great! I'd highly recommend. Easy to book an appointment online. Wish I would've gotten the appointment confirmation text as soon as I booked the appointment but it only came on the day-of. I wasn't sure if I double-booked, so I tried calling the store, but I wasn't able to get a hold of a real person. If no one answers the store phone (I tried about 10 times in one day), then your call is forwarded to a digital assistant which wasn't very helpful in confirming whether or not I had an appointment or double booked. Parking right next the building on the weekend in a prepaid lot was a flat fee of $20. We came early for the appointment. They were pretty busy, and there were 3 people working in the front, and no one greeted us until we were standing around for about 5 minutes (it's a small storefront). While we waited we scanned the QR code and filled out the waiver while browsing their earring collection. When one of the employees greeted they were very sweet and professional. Thank you! Atlas was our piercer. Except for saying hello and giving directions for the piercing, he wasn't very personable. Wish we had gotten any one of the other employees. Basically, it felt like we were bothering him at work. :( But, I kiiiinda get it. Some people may have a bad day, or they're just don't like some people. Buuut...in the end, it IS a customer service profession. They do offer 10% a in-person student discount which is a plus! I discovered studs a couple of years ago and have visited one of the NYC locations at The Yards. I was really excited about them opening a location here in DC. I went in a few days after their official opening, everything went well except that I purchased 3 pairs of earrings, and after paying for them I was trying them on at the store when one of the employees approached me to tell me that I wasn't allowed to put them on in the store because of hygiene, and as I was repacking them here comes a white lady next to me and does the exact same thing and she's told nothing! If this is the rule, they should have signs around the store that make it clear. I felt a particular way about this as not being white, and the employees serving at the front of the store that day were all white and the white lady doing the same thing I was was told nothing. read more

Appointments can be made online but they also accept walk-ins. You can't change jewelry in store by yourself, you will need to get an appointment to change it in store due to hygiene. The ear piercing process is super smooth and easy. They have candy and squishy balls in the back room to make you super comfortable. They only use needles and no piercing guns. read more

Great experience with Studs with a lobe piercing. Tam was my piercer and I was very happy with my results and how easy the entire process was (loved being able to make an appointment and them being on time with the appointment in spite of there being a lot of people in the store!). I have seven holes in my ears and they've all closed up. Tam was able to get one of my original holes open and then she newly pierced a matching hole on the other ear. She did an excellent job with both and I love that I can't see the original hole on the newly pierced side. One thing I wish I had known in advance is to have a pillow ready for side sleeping. It's been about 20 years since I last got pierced so I had forgotten what it felt like. Lastly, I think of myself as having really sensitive ears. I've been following the instructions Studs gave me since I got my piercings a week ago and my ears are doing wonderfully. Crossing my fingers that it will last and the reason my ears closed in the first place was because I was doing the wrong things, such as twisting my studs and using hydrogen peroxide/alcohol for cleaning. read more

I was very excited to find this place, until I went. First I think the 50$ price to get piercings is totally fine and acceptable. However, the website does not make it clear enough that earrings are not sold in pairs. So at minimum you will spend 110$. You must buy thier earrings, you must pick from their starter earrings and they start at 30$ per ring not per set like every place else on the planet. Lastly and most disappointing as a new customer, when you sign up to get updates from their website. you get a 15% off coupon. They will not honor this coupon in the store. This company very much feels like a rope a dope scheme. We say things on our website but don't include all the details. We draw you into our store and then surprise you with twice as much in cost as we led you to believe. All in all I love the concept, but the execution is not at all customer friendly. read more

Went here with friends and saw there was a promotion advertised on the website but when we went they said it ended while it was still being advertised online. The whole experience felt rushed and unhelpful. Told we weren't allowed to try earrings on even after purchase to ensure we didn't have any issues with the jewelry. We left with a few pieces and later realized that the reversible pieces did not fit together and the gauge of the clickers were too thick to fit in my cartilage and too small to be repurposed for my lobe. Went back the next day and they fixed the reversible pieces by bending the front which did not feel secure being on held up by a small bend with no click. I practiced opening and closing it and it over bent so easily that it was no longer secure in a matter of seconds, I asked if they can put the earrings on for me to test it's secureness and was told they were closed for walk in's 2 hours before they closed (nothing on their website stating they close for walk ins earlier in the day). They did let me return the items that were not worn but worn jewelry cannot be returned even if it was just to see if it fit. Very disappointing experience. read more

My friend and I were super excited to try out this location after seeing an ad on instagram. We tried yesterday to book an appointment and was berated about it being the weekend and how we should be better prepared if we wanted a piercing. There must have been a cancellation today cause we were able to squeeze into their "busy schedule." When we walked in today, they could not care about the fact that we were early for our appointment. Basically rushing us to pick a piercing and to get on with it even BEFORE my scheduled time. When we were looking at other jewelry options for our other piercings, they were visibly impatient. Wouldn't even answer my friends questions about the other jewelry on display. My consult was no more than two seconds, which the piecer then proceeded to drop the jewel. After the piercing, we were met with impatience and irritation again. They were like "tip is over there, have a nice day." Will not be going back again, try to make small talk with the customers in the future. Might be good for the business to have a fun environment :/ read more

I really liked the idea of studs and thought I was having a really great service for a great price! The piercer was lovely and very nice but my issue was with the consult. It was very rushed and pushy to do the more expensive gold jewelry. I ended up getting 3 piercings, one of which was daith piercing with the 14k gold curved bar bell. There were only two options for that piercing which I expected but the price of the jewelry was not highlighted at all. The jewelry on its own was $250 for gold plated barbell when the highest price point option shown to me was $130. I calculated all the prices of the jewelry shown to me and expected to pay around $300 for my 3 piercings and jewelry. No one ever told me what I was going to be charged or unique the price differences of each piece despite them being in them being in a row of $50, $80 , or $130. I got my piercings done and was given the bill at the end. Three piercings ended up costing me $600 with my tip included. I've historically always gone to tattoo parlors for my piercings but the jewelry was never my vibe so I thought studs would be great. I'm very disappointed and wish I had said something at checkout but felt I couldn't because I had already completed the service. So please please please insist on asking for the total and verify the price of the jewelry because they won't be transparent about pricing. read more

I absolutely love it! This was my 2nd visit to Studs, after being pierced at their Upper East Side location in NYC. I highly recommend making an appointment as a rule, but apparently they will do walk ins. The store is busy, but the piercing area is private, clean and quiet. I got a jewelry change out and 2 additional piercings that my piercer helped me select. Atlas was amazing and I'm sure I will return for more.
