There's holes in the roof, poor attitudes, and on top of that I saw an employee in there during my last visit and there's ZERO chance she's over the age of 13. Their products were limited due to the consignment aspect of the business, and I also found a jacket I liked for $30 that was retailing at $20. Really RUDE staff member. There was a very nice lady that I had before. Young girl was rude to me and she knew she was. Didn't come in to be treated that way. It was like she was on a power trip. Either take my stuff or not, no big deal. No need to be rude. The nice lady before took my new shoes before and some pants. This time the young girl said " I don't have to take it if it's new with has tags". I went to Savvy and she took my top that was new with tags from Catherines." Stuff " try and be nice. Lisa was sentimental-- she kept all of the furniture from her grandparent's home and found some way to find charm in the peeling paint and scratches on the table. She also managed to scavenge for some furniture that could be mistaken for brand new, though finds like this are always rare. Lisa has a stock of clothing for everyone. She has clothes from maternity, jeans from days before the kids, and sweats to stretch with her body that only grows out instead of up these days. You want to play a sport? Lisa's got what you need-- the kids have tried nearly every sport. Looking for Hawkeye gear for the next tailgate? Lisa's husband bought plenty of that. She's got rows of shirts the kids grew out of and that her and Joe don't wear anymore. Need a book or game? Over the years, Lisa has collected plenty of those too. You name it, Lisa has it or had it at some point, if only she could tell you exactly were it was... oh well, I guess you'll have to search for it. read more

Dear Stuff, Etc. Iowa City: I tried to like you, I really did, but this relationship just has too many issues. I consigned several pieces of furniture and the confirmation email never came. You "lost" an entire bin of my high quality household items and two pair of UGG boots. The trust is gone. When I consigned my last bin of items, I was not told that if I wanted the rejects back (I did) I had to purchase your $5 black reusable bag to put my items in. If I change my mind, I have to BUY BACK my own property for 10% of the original selling price. It costs $5 to open an account, $2.50 to mail each payout check. If I'm lucky, I'll get 40% of the selling price, but with your frequent special sales, that doesn't leave me with much. That last bin I mentioned netted me 68 cents and all the expired merchandise gets baled and shipped overseas, not donated to charity. Future consignors beware, and read the fine print before you commit. Follow them on Facebook to know about the way too many last minute changes in store hours and times that they accept drop offs. Me, I'm so done with this and will donate to Crowded Closet next door, or consign with Houseworks. read more

Loved shopping at Stuff. However, selling to them has been a nightmare. They frequently change consignment hours wo notifying you, the presort the items you want to sell and don't let ya know ahead of time what they will take. Total waste of time to try to sell to them. read more

I have gone into this Stuff Etc store many times before, but today I went with my daughter to look for a leotard and tights for dance. We asked staff where their dance section was and they just looked us with a blank stare...this was disappointing. My daughter and I decided to search on our own and we ended up finding a perfect fit black leotard and it was only $1.99. What a deal! read more

I tried to take a brand new, unused solid wood twin headboard from Slumberland in along with the hardware to mount it and the guy said that they don't take headboards when I saw a nasty metal one right there in the store and have seen several other headboards and mattresses there before. This after we pulled up to the back of the store, got it out of our car, and hauled it in ourselves. Forget about the "special" black bags: They refuse any if there is only a small amount on their wall even after you paid for the bag itself. They made me walk back out the door after bringing in a black bag for the fourth time when I could have just set it on the floor in front of the others - there weren't many there. Very rude and terrible customer service. You need to learn to treat your customers like human beings and show some appreciation for people wanting to shop there. This store used to be better but now is acting too snooty for the kind of merchandise they sell. read more

I recently purchased a vintage cuckoo clock from this store. When I started working on it the next day there were missing parts. The packaging was sealed and an anti-theft devise was on it. It was not in anyway marked as incomplete. The Manager, Laura refused to give me a refund on this misrepresented merchandise. I'm out my money and Laura can now sell the clock to the next sucker that comes along. read more

Let me say right off the bat that I am a bit shocked to see that I am the first one to review this place. Whatevs. I love Stuff Etc.'s business model. It is an amazing to place to hawk your stuff without having to lurk around on craigslist. Although I have never traded in anything at these stores, I can see that the quality of items that they sell is much better than your run-of-the mill second-hand store. However, quality comes at a price. Some of their items can be as much as their new, shiny, Target-bought counterparts. It seems as though every month they have an amazing sale through out the store which drives hoards of people to gawk and grab. Of coarse, some amount of what you buy goes to a certain charity of the month. So with that all being said, Stuff Etc. is really an awesome store. I have noticed that this particular location doesn't necessarily have all of the strange oddities and accouterments that I have located at other branches. It is worth mentioning, that they also sell used beds, furniture, and other housewares for the struggling student. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The employees there act like they are a step above everyone else and treat their valuable customers like crap. I will NEVER shop the Iowa City store again (stopped taking in my stuff to them a LONG time ago as they were so picky about my stuff /gave me hardly anything for it but yet all the nasty gross stuff on the racks showed what they do accept, I now donate to Salvation Army). They will not go out of their way to help you with anything....obviously need some training in customer service and actually being a human being. Meh! This place is way too unorganized. They don't bother to make sure the right size hangers is on the correct size clothing and instead of making sure all the correct sizes are in the right place they color coordinate the clothes, who cares if I can find a yellow shirt in the right place if it's the wrong size. There is stuff scattered all over the store. If your lucky you may find something your looking for in the right place. Other stores around are much more enjoyable to shop at because you can go straight to a location of what your looking for and find it. read more

After going to Stuffs multiple times for both buying and selling, I have to say I'm pleased with it. First off, this place is a consignment store. It's a no frills kind of place. It's not really that clean and most items are generally lumped together into basic categories. Furniture in the furniture area, books in the books area. No alphabetical order or color coordinating going on. Staff are friendly enough for a place if this caliber. Any customer expecting white glove service at Stuffs is an idiot. You may find a gem there but mostly everything is very much second hand. A lot of furniture from grandma's house. I was able to find a baby highchair that retails for $300 for $50. Happy about that one. I've also sold stuff there too. There's two options to do it. Make an appointment for them to review your items and have them return anything they won't sell, or drop off your items into a bin. Anything from the bin they won't sell goes to Salvation army or so they say. This place is what it is, don't have high expectations. I continue to use them because they suit my needs and they may suit yours too. read more

I don't usually give reviews but because of my recent expirence I felt I should warn others. Be very cautious when taking your items in. I had a tote that was full of items to consign. After 1 wk of being at the store I finally got an email telling me the items they had taken. Which was only 5 items. Some of the items they didn't take were a pair of Women's Nike shoes that were only worn a handful of times. Boys Nike and boys Asic shoes that were in good condition. But here is the interesting part......When I went back to pick up my items that they didn't take, they were no where to be found. I feel like its a huge scam. read more

I went to Stuff for the first time today. It was a pleasant experience but there wasn't any clear cut info on how pricing worked or sizing for that matter. At checkout you don't know what you will pay UNLESS you ask. The screen is turned away from you. I had no idea what the discounts would be and even if there was a discount on my items. When I left the store one of my items was marked a Junior size even though it was in the Ladies rack. I went back into the store and asked for refund and was denied. This left a very sour taste for me. I probably will shop here again but BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

Stuff Etc. is a great place to buy and sell women's clothes. Since they reject things that won't sell everything is in great condition. Prices are higher than thrift stores, but because of the quality and volume, there are great deals. They also frequently have coupons. The end of the consignment season when everything goes on sale is usually the start of the actual season outside so that is also a great time for deals. I disagree with the assessment that some things are as much as new. Sure, if you are shopping clearance or if you have a coupon for something already on sale at Kohl's you might get close, but the prices are very reasonable and it is easier to shop, especially for small size things, since small sizes are so often out of stock at regular stores. I also recommend them for books and kids clothes. I do agree that the Coralville store has slightly more stuff overall, but that is why the Iowa City location is so great for consigning. They need the stuff and there is more of a chance it will be seen. To consign there is a small one time fee and then you get 40%. I like that when I drop off a box that I would have previously donated, they'll just donate whatever they don't take so I don't even have to go back and I make a little money that I wouldn't have otherwise made. And they have a huge variety of items to purchase... which is also good. Cons: Giving the consigners only 40% is low. And their prices are pretty darned high. I have donated and donated and donated and receive barely anything for my items... which all usually sell "on clearance." And yet the items I want to purchase are still marked full-price.
