I was recreating a walk-in closet from a spare bedroom. She took measurements and began to create the design. It took about an hour. The walls in this bedroom were literally just painted and I mentioned that to her and she said she wasn't doing anything to the walls... I was not happy with that attitude. At the end of our appointment I asked if she was going to give me a copy of the design and she said, "no". I asked if she was going to email it, she said "no". I asked if I could take a picture of it, she said "no". I wanted to be able and sit in my new room and visualize what she designed before I gave answer to do the project. Then I asked if I had questions would she be able to come back, she said "no she didn't have time she was too busy". The price she gave was, I thought, very reasonable, but I really wanted to review the design that she had created. All I was allowed to have was the quote for the project and I had until Friday to guarantee the price. I can only assume that she didn't trust me not to go with my own builder, which is why she didn't give me the design she created...I'll never know...but if you can't trust your client, that goes both ways. I just didn't like the attitude and the lack of transparency. I passed on the project, they lost a customer and I went with another company even if I had to pay more, the other company let me keep the design and schedules time for me if I have questions. The representative from Closets by Design has been only doing this for 3 years. The representative from the other company has been doing this work for over 28 years, Experience has its rewards.

I made an appointment the previous week and received an email confirmation from the designer John after speaking with the office. The time was not my choice because it was smack in the middle of my day off killings my plans. I figured it would be worth it. They told me they mainly do Staten Island and New Jersey and ONLY do Bay Ridge in Brooklyn where I am. I waited and waited and after almost an hour and a half after the appointment time I decided to call their office and did not reach anyone. I left a message and called Johns cell. When I asked him where he is and why he didn't call me if he was going to be late his response was " Are you sure you have an appointment?" I replied that you sent me the email confirming it the day I spoke to the office. John asked me where I was and when I told him he replied "no I won't be able to get there. I said that's not right, I took off from work, I have been stuck home all day. He just said "sorry these things happen". I said REALLY??? When you're in business these things can't and don't happen. If for some strange reason they did then you make things right, you show empathy for you're customer, you call you're other appointments and try to work things out so you don't disappoint the customer you FORGOT!! Social Media can be a blessing or a curse. I am more upset about how he handled it. He expects to get paid for his...what about mine. Hope this will be a great lesson learned for John, Superior Organizing and potential clients. Buyer beware.
