Incredible professional staff, our children have really loved going there and we have seen their Chinese skills blossom. They look forward to it and have built meaningful relationships and friendships here too. The enrichment classes have even helped our kids, love math! Transitioning away from 2.5 hour/day hybrid school, Su Yun was so great for my two kids (and their adults) this summer. Having a solid block from 8am - 6pm at summer camp for 3 weeks was a nice throwback the the old, pre-pandemic normal days. My kids (ages 5 and 8) loved the hands-on STEM projects and outdoor time at the nearby playgrounds. We loved that they were able to make new friends, play and have some Mandarin language exposure. Weekly photos of what the kids did at camp were also shared which was nice because often times they forget details of their day and it helped to facilitate more conversation about their days. Su Yun was also really great about ensuring (as best they could) a safe environment with all the COVID prevention protocols in place. The summer adventure was completed without any issues or outbreaks. The staff was also so thoughtful! My younger son's birthday happened while at camp. We didn't say anything and then he came home with a small little goody bag of snacks and small little treats like pencils/erasers. It was a nice little surprise gift. With all of that said, we will definitely look into returning again next year! read more

This was our first time doing summer camps (daughter is rising second grader) here at Su Yun's and it was fantastic. Very engaging weekly STEM themes, a good balance of indoor and outdoor time, and great communication and responsive, caring staff. Really love their STEM focus. With Mandarin language teaching and optional before/after care, it's a great option for families who need full day activities whether children are just starting in Mandarin or are heritage speakers. Amazing family owned business. My daughter is 6 years old, she is a beginner, and we were worried that she may feel overwhelmed or be disinterested in learning Mandarin. The teachers did a great job combining crafts, arts, STEM with Mandarin learning. My daughter said this is the best summer camp she's been to. She learned a lot of Chinese words and some Chinese songs. The teachers were all super kind. read more

Michele and her teachers operate a first class operation. We were introduced to Su Yun through their summer camp program. Our (5yo) son, who is not easy to transition to new environments and not easily entertained, came home within the first day listing off multiple (STEM based) activities that he LOVED. Before Su Yun, he had never listed more than one highlight per day. Now, he had to whittle down his list of of highlights. Another plus, he is picking up Chinese vocabulary, which he enjoys equally. This is the second summer that my rising 4th grader has attended camp with Su Yun's Chinese Learning Center. Each week has been so much fun. The teachers are attentive and patient educators. My son just completed "Incredible Edible," a food-themed camp week. He learned many new concepts and had plenty of opportunities to perform hands-on experiments. He is excited each day to find out what the experiment-of-the-day may be. And he always thinks he's leaving too early when he is picked up from aftercare. This is a wonderful after school enrichment program. It's beyond having child care, the kids are engaged in wonderful relationships with the staff, learning and experiencing with hands on STEAM activities. They are also exposed to the Chinese culture and language. I was pleasantly surprised to see kids from many different non-Chinese culture here and having a great time as well. This is a great learning opportunity for kids from all cultures. My kids continue to talk about how much they are enjoying this program and look forward to it. The owner is extremely thoughtful and responsive. The schedule works well, tuition is very reasonable and meets all my after school care needs, and much more! read more

My son (going into 3rd grade) had his first week of summer camp at Su Yun's and he had an incredible time. Every day pickup was greeted with "Aw, do I have to go now?". The emphasis on STEAM and the incredible thought to the programming kept the kids active outside and inside. I heard all week about a multi-day stop-motion video project which my son was so proud to share with me, along with the amazing Lego creations that they built. Michele and the staff create a fun, creative and caring space --- we are looking forward our our future weeks in camp this summer! My son is really enjoying Su Yun's after-school program. He is learning to speak, read, and write Chinese and is learning about the Chinese culture through food, games, stories, etc. He especially enjoys the daily STEM activity, which he gets very excited about. My daughter loved the wood working camp! She built very cool projects and learned how to use real tools. The teachers were great and put a lot of thought into the STEM projects. This camp was my daughter's first introduction to Chinese culture and she loved learning basic writing and choosing a Chinese name (little bunny). The camp has an awesome, bright indoor space with nearby parks. I was blown away by this camp and highly recommend it. read more

My five-year-old tried a bunch of different camps for the first time this summer (Lawrence Hall, Space Camp at Chabot, etc.) -- and out of all of them Su Yun's was his favorite. In fact, we ended up rearranging our summer schedule so he could do a few additional weeks at Su Yun's. He's now started kindergarten and is asking if he could just go back to Su Yun's instead. It seemed to be a good mix of both STEAM activities and unstructured outside play time at different parks. My son's favorite part was the snacks that they cook on site in addition to lunch brought from home. Every day was something different. My son, who is a very picky eater tried seaweed (for the first time ever!) with rice, and now likes to eat seaweed. One day he told me he ate 10 quesadillas. Another day he came home telling us all about bacteria in mandarin! We'll definitely be back next summer. read more

Su Yun's program has been amazing throughout shelter- in - place as Michele and all the teachers were able to quickly adapt and offer classes online using Zoom. Our child felt online classes with Su Yun helped to understand how to navigate Zoom which translated to the online classroom. Despite having no prior knowledge of Mandarin, through the support of all the teachers, our child was able to learn greetings and numbers quickly. We are thankful that we found this program, as our child enjoyed going to the learning center in- person, STEM activities, learning Mandarin and more about Chinese culture. My daughter attended a Chinese immersion school last year, so I was hoping there was a Chinese school that could help her maintain her Mandarin now that she's in public school this year. Su Yun creates an interactive language learning environment where my daughter can learn and use her Chinese while she works on the different activities of the day (from crafts to science experiements). When this after school program opened I thought this was a chance for my kindergartener to learn a new language. After just 1.5 months she is going around the house singing "Happy Birthday to You" in Mandarin. And today when she wasn't at the program she told me she was practicing her Chinese writing and (after I consulted with director Michele) found out she wrote the characters for numbers, many of them perfectly. She did it with enthusiasm all on her own. The bonus I wasn't expecting is that she also does chemistry and other science experiments, simple programming (she likes to make the robot move) and is developing a love of exploring the world around her and of science. The students are separated into small groups as they rotate through the different stations so she gets to interact with children her own age as well as older kids. They collaborate on a project and work together as a team to improve it, which I think are important life skills. She has made many new friends and actually calls them by their Chinese names. Best of all, everyday she asks if she gets to go to Chinese school. read more

My 1st grader has attended Su Yun's Chinese Learning Center after school since it first opened and we love the program! The kids do many different kinds of experiments with interesting materials in addition to learning Mandarin. My daughter is often engrossed in an activity when I pick her up and does not want to leave. The facilities are beautiful and clean, the teachers seem dedicated and the owner Michele is friendly, welcoming and great with children. I am so glad my family is part of this community! read more
