The eggplant was exceptional. We also had a pasta station with two selections, and a great carving station with fork tender beef and a perfect turkey breast. Every employee we interacted with - at the coat check station, at the bar, at the food stations, and at the tables was polite and very professional. "Back in the banquet line Some get the gravy"…read more( Joni Mitchell) We attended a "Year In Review" celebratory dinner for a charitable organization we've supported for years, and the good folks at Farminton Gardens served well over 100 guests flawlessly in their banquet room. We started off in their gorgeous atrium bar for a glass of wine and chit chat before we were seated in their main banquet room. The room was quite large and easily accomodated our group. There was a podium up front and two video screens to display slide shows and the like. The sound and video systems were excellent. The dinner buffet line was set up in the rear of the room and we were called up table by table. We were very impressed by the variety and quality- rolls, salad, asparagus spears, mushroom polenta, salmon, short ribs, and cipollini onions. Dessert was individual trays of pastries and a single creme brulee for each table. This was my first visit to Farmington Gardens and I walked away very impressed with the way they handled our event.

The store is a bright space with lots of interesting bath and skincare products, but the real highlight for me is the interesting assortment of toys on offer! When I walked by the store as it was getting set up, I immediately gravitated towards the small toy display by the window; there were so many interesting things on offer, like art cards, recycled toy trucks, and other little games. They also have items for babies, like soothers, and other more conventional toys from Melissa and Doug. I ultimately settled on a very cool kit to make bouncy balls that look like planets; I had seen this kit in a museum before, but to find it in a local store was quite a treat! I am sure my nephew will love it. Beyond just the assortment of products, Jessica, the owner, was so accommodating to shopping during COVID. I ordered the products I wanted online, walked up to the store, and called her; she was out with my bag right away! The pandemic has been so hard on many small businesses, but I can see that this little shop is thriving because of their thoughtful selection of products and because of the infrastructure they have in place to let people shop inside, curbside, or for delivery. A professional organization I belong to has their golf outing and annual meeting (think scholarship awards, charity awards, installaton of new officers, door prizes, 50/50, etc.) in May. We just had the event at Tunxis for the first time and I drove away very impressed by everyting. The group had a 1:00 Shotgun Scramble, so lunch service started at 11:30. A buffet line was outside of the clubhouse with hot trays of sausage and peppers and grilled chicken breasts. A platter of hard rolls, lettuce, sliced tomatos, sliced onions, a basket with bags of chips, and buckets of water bottles and cans of soft drinks on ice completed the meal. I had a few sausage pieces and one piece of chicken and enjoyed them. Now, you may have noticed that the iced bucket of beverages didn't contain any alcohol. That's because there was a roving beer and beverage cart set up near the practice tees. Later in the day, the beer cart would roam around the course quenching the thirst of parched golfers. The cart was run by two super friendly young ladies, I ordered two Bloody Marys - one for me and one for my friend so we could sip our drinks checking people in at the registration desk. The Bloodys were $8.30 each. Not a bad price for a good sized drink. We had our group meal in the downstairs banquet room. Dinner was quite a feast- a buffet with pulled pork, sliced beef, broccoli rabe, green beans, tossed salad, clam chowder, cornbread, potato salad, and baked beans. Nice touches were squeeze bottles of steak sauce and barbecue sauce. If you wanted a beer, you could order at the bar just outsied our room, or wander into the restaurant bar across the hall. The food and service were fantastic, and I could not have been more impressed by my first consumer experience at the Tunxis Country Club.

Surprisingly great little art museum / historical home. There are trails on the property and a sunken garden. On a nice weather day, it's great for walking around the property. It was crowded when I went on a Saturday, and tours are on the hour, so don't show up at the last minute. Overall, a great site to visit!
