Does not even deserve 1 star, deserves 0. Normally I only write positive reviews but in this case I simply had to warn others. Raised on a farm myself, I'm a 20+ year school teacher with a PhD's in Psychology and Child Development. We travel a lot and understand places located where there aren't other services nearby sometimes price gouge *a little*, but this place is doing it to the point it's borderline criminal. More than a dollar a gallon higher than stations just 14 miles to the west or 11 miles to the east, and keep in mind those stations are already higher than normal for the area but not to the point of being criminal. He doesn't have prices posted anywhere but on the pumps themselves (no one would ever stop if he did) and prices of other items in the store are just as bad. Fuel pumps are grimy and the place is dingy and very dusty. Electric fences just feet from the pumps where kids get out of families cars and would be tempted to pet one of the donkeys or lamas and get hurt. The owner is an older guy with a poor disposition, underdeveloped social skills, and exhibits delusions of grandeur fooling himself into thinking that he's somehow "helping" people by overcharging by more than a dollar a gallon while not providing even the most basic of services such as bathrooms or trash cans. No, Helping people would be providing fuel at a fair price - he's just taking advantage of people, major difference. If he wanted to help people then he could do it and charge a fair price for fuel, provide basic services like bathrooms, keep a cleaner station, not endanger people with electric fences (why's he feel he needs those anyway?!?!), and be friendly to customers. On our visit his attitude ranged from cold to downright rude to us and the other people who were there and it seemed like he really did not like a mixed-race couple that had stopped so that also left us shaking our heads. While we was there he actually chased off some poor guy for no other reason than the guy had the assiduity to ask if the price shown on the pump was correct because it seemed really high for the area (which it was). The guy was very polite and not accusatory, simply seemed confused like he thought maybe the display was wrong. We heard the whole thing and the guy had done nothing wrong but the owner instantly threw the poor guys CC back at him and then started to act very bizzare, refused to sell the guy gas and actually chased him out of the store cussing the guy and yelling like he was crazed. Witnessing the whole thing just left us totally stunned. The owner was acting as though he had severe bi-polar disorder, turning borderline violent when he flips, and believe me when I say that you don't want your family around when it happens! We got the kids back in the car and left after witnessing this display. The owner should not be in business at all, and doesn't really need to be around the public until he gets some professional treatment for his obvious plethora of issues. After we was back on the road while my husband drove I looked up the place on a few websites and discovered numerous other reports of similar behavior in the past so it's clearly an on-going problem. UPDATE: So sad. The owner responded to my review claiming "We heard what we thought we heard", then later that I was in a state of terror? ROFL. He's so out of touch with reality that it's just sad, makes me feel sorry for him. No, no terror, just sincere concern for the safety of others, especially children, following what we witnessed. He also claimed he only gets tough with people who do something bad or illegal, which is total BS! We heard what *actually* happened and witnessed the whole thing and the poor guy he got tough with had done nothing wrong at all. The only person doing anything bad/illegal was the owner... and now he's just making excuses, excuses and more excuses. The same as he's pathetically tried to do in response to the numerous other negative review this place has received (almost all are negative). Sad excuses for their behavior, excuses why they're rude to good people, excuses for their price gouging, excuses why they can't provide even the most basic services that all such stations should provide, excuses for the shameful conditions their animals are kept in. All the excuses are really just proof that these people should not own a business in the first place. If they can't provide the basic services that go along with a type of business and continue to provide them without making excuses, overcharging, and being rude, then they should not be in business anymore. Maybe a long time ago this place was charming, but now it's just sad, very sad. Not even "Middle of Nowhere" anymore, a mere 10 mins from other stations with much better services, much nicer people, and fair prices. Pitiful Place ran by Rude, Awful People with Sad Animals. We stopped here a few days ago while getting an early start for the holiday weekend and what we discovered made us wish we'd never stopped. There is a well-maintained rest area only 3 miles up the road and better fuel stops with a complete set of nice clean functional facilities and very nice people about 12 miles up the road and many other much better (re: Not pitiful and just plain sad) attractions and animals along this route. As others have pointed out their fuel prices are criminally high for their area, they make excuse after excuse after excuse for why they can't provide even the most basic of services. Reading some of their reactions to the bad reviews is actually funny they're so pathetic sounding and shows how sad they are, Do they really think they're helping their case with all the whining and excuses and trying to make it sound like the problem is other people? Well they're not because no one believes it. It's just them trying to make it sound as though the problem is everyone else but that many bad reviews vs only a very few positive ones and only having a 1 star rating on this or any review site says it all very clearly. Maybe once along time ago when they was younger it was a fun place but now they're just old and grumpy behind the times and want to try and blame everyone else for all of their problems instead of actually trying to update and fix the problems. I'm sure like everyone else who's left them less than good reviews they'll come up with some sad response with more excuses and a sorry attempt at trying to make it sound like the problem is everyone else because we left them a bad review, but like the others they have attempted this trick with they're only hurting themselves because people those responses for the sad attempt at laying blame on others that they are. They're rather spend more time doing that than taking the reviews to heart and actually addressing the real problems. My daughter always wants to stop and see the Alpacas, donkeys and sheep here that she has visited since she was a baby, but every time we stop, it makes stopping the next time more and more unpalatable. These other reviews here are very accurate: the owner of this place is a very unfriendly, sadistic little tight-wad meiser with a chip on his shoulder, who focuses on ripping off his unwitting customers and their kids who stop in by chance or necessity, and taking out his grudge against the world on them. Heard him last time rudely denying, then flat-out ignoring a couple of senior citizen ladies who urgently requested use of the restroom (without having bought anything yet) the most recent time I was there. Avoid this place entirely, unless absolutely necessary; and IF NECESSARY, I suggest returning the unbridled cheer this guy has been spreading so generously by hanging any plastic bags of garbage you might have on one of the posts on his new electric fence (WTF?!?!)! Or just dump it right there in the gas pump bay. But definitely don't fall for buying pellets to feed the animals at 25 cents per 5 measly pellets-- this guy even rips the kids off too!! I haven't stopped here to in years. As a long haul trucker I pulled in here today to take a lunch break. To my surprise this business has turned into some trucker hating people. They fenced off the truck parking and posted so many signs I couldn't count them all!! So I left!!! I'll spend my money elsewhere. FYI putting you on blast to all truckers in America to avoid you!!! How do you run a business in the middle of nowhere running off truckers? Whatever I wanted a $400 tank of diesel and a $20 lunch! But I'll honor you no truck policy and leave! Gas was more than $1 more per gallon than Snowville. No restroom. No garbage cans. Animals in a very small fenced all dirt area and no shade. Plan ahead so you don't have to pay so much more for gas and have a restroom to use and garbage cans for trash. I would give no stars but that isn't an option. We tried to stop in Snowville but the line was clear out to the freeway off ramp. We have been on the road for 3 days driving back from Flight School in Alabama and anxious to get back home after 18 months away. We didn't want to wait in line for over 30 minutes or longer. Can't blame a soldier wanting to get home to his family.​ Curious that every person who reports the abusive behavior of the owner or reports the lack of services necessary for travelers are all called whiners and belittled. wondering if the owner is truly this uncaring in a service industry. If I could give this place a NEGATIVE 5-Star review I would! FIRST OFF my kids went to pet the alpacas and were met by malnourished monsters that looked like skinwalkers and spit on my kids. They went to go find a bathroom and guess what, THIS PLACE HAS NO BATHROOM. So if you wanna use the bathroom you gotta go in the pen like an animal and because the petting zoo yourself. On top of all of that when I had to get out to pump gas the pump turned off. He refused me service and gave my Somalian wife a HATEFUL look from the depths of his soul as he stood infront of his various guns. I walked out FUMING. Gas is over priced as hell, and alpacas are more well behaved than the owner. In my opinion someone needs to throw that dooche bag in the alpaca gate and feed him some respect instead of the alpacas. AVOID FOR SAFETY REASONS. Man working register threatened my fiancée with a gun on the counter when he walked in to get snacks after filling up (fiancée is dark skinned) and kept saying "there's no services that come out here" over and over. Super fun stop with lots to see alpacas and a small burro named nitro are in the front of this store. Check out the baby rattlers just to name a few things. That long stretch from utah to idaho i never miss stopping in at the sublett fuel stop. Has some good snacks great sandwich last time I stopped in. read more
