I gave this location a try and I admit that I was skeptical going in but it's really good. I got the spider signature roll. It's pretty huge lots of stuffing and the roll was very saucy. The portion size is bigger than some sushi burrito that I have tried in the past. I recommend this place over sushi pure which was where I went the day before which I thought was overpriced small. Hands down the best sushi burrito I've had! I wish this location was closer to where I live and hope they open one in Salem, OR. My favorite thing about this place are the sauces (i.e. roasted garlic, sweet wasabi, roasted habanero, and sweet soy sauce). They're not stingy at all and always pack me extra to take home to use as a dip for other foods. The customer service is excellent at both locations. Ok, why did I not know about this place until now!? Such a great way to have sushi on the go! There is a good variety of options so if you're not into eating raw fish there is still something for you! In fact the chicken is very good too! The purple rice also just makes it extra fun! The price is a little off putting considering the size. And without the provided sauce, i feel like the burrito doesn't really stand well on its own. That is something I feel other sushi burrito places i've tried never had a problem with. I had the unagi&tamago which featured fried eel, egg, and kanikama (fake crab). paired with a sweet soy reduction. while tasty, the fake crab was just the stick. It was a little difficult to bite and not just pull the whole stick out. I think a little mayo/crab mixture would have made the burrito easier to eat. Not a bad little place to get a sushi burrito or bowl surrounded by the colorful personality of The Whiteaker. It's quite a quant place to get away from the sun on a hot day. Wood floors, silver paneling, blackboard-style menu, and mismatched handmade-looking seats add a great dash of character to the whole place. The menu touted a list of items that could be burritos or bowls, a list of salads, and another area for appetizer and drinks. It was easy to decide on the Spicy Tuna: crispy shrimp, spicy tuna, seaweed salad, shredded carrots, and cucumber. All, of course, wrapped in rice and an outer seaweed layer. After a decent wait, I was handed a togo box by the rather laid-back staff. Popping it open revealed the burrito and a side of sauce. The burrito was a good size - about bigger than your average stuffed burrito - and was cut in half for ease of eating. It's a soft, slightly crunchy, slightly warm burrito filled with tuna/shrimp with the tiniest amount of heat. But that's about it on the flavor profile. Now the shrimp was crispy and tasty. The seaweed salad was slightly sweet but that was about it; not too much flavor. Including the spicy tuna sadly. However, the included sauce was soon used to much satisfaction. It almost seems like a teriyaki/unagi sauce in that it's a very thick, very sweet brown-colored sauce that complimented everything. An added dash of spice and everything clicked in the latter 3/4th of the burrito. When all was said and done, I was rather satisfied-yet-wanting a bit more in flavor and spice. First off, really great tasting sushi burrito! Flavors were really good overall, got the salmon poke roll. There are a few areas where they could improve, some in health and safety. They have a public condiment tray out front, which is great, except it's shared use with no way to disinfect the handles. If they just offered some sort of cleaning wipes it would be nice, along with having a wet wipe as the burritos can get a bit messy. Onto the burrito itself, for the price of $15 was skimpy with the salmon, more a pickled veggie roll. The outer seaweed layer was also thin and broke easy, double wrap would help. I've had excellent burritos and bowls from the Springfield location, but the food truck has literally never gotten my order right, not even once, in 5-6 times that I've ordered from it. I've asked the staff directly, and been told that, no, the Salmon Poke is not supposed to have anything spicy in it. Every time I order, I get a different sauce with my burrito than the one listed on the menu. Tonight was the kicker though. I ordered the Dragon burrito as a bowl, and as I've done a million times before, I mentioned that I needed gluten free and to please leave the jalapeno crisps off. It's never been a problem in the past. Well, lo and behold, I open the box, and it's covered in a heaping pile of jalapeno crisps. Like, MORE than what you'd usually get. Seriously? And of course, there are a million tiny crumbs, so I can't even pick them out. Had to toss the whole thing. It's not like I asked them for something complicated - just leave off an ingredient. I haven't been the same since I've visited Subo. I went up there to visit my friend while she was attending UO and I ate here once a day. It's conveniently located right across from Ninkaski (great beer btw) which we frequented twice. But anytime we were deciding where to eat I always wanted to come here. The rice is soft and flavorful, you can tell they make it fresh and don't save their leftovers. The spiciness is on point I loved it! Their seafood quality is too notch as well. I was positive I'd never come back to this place. But after reading my review, the owner persuaded me to give his establishment a second chance - explaining that I caught his business on a bad day and there were some equipment issues. Honestly, it means a lot that the owner is willing to right a wrong. Just the fact that he reached out was enough reason for me to give it another go. I came back again (without revealing my identity, of course) and the staff greeted me enthusiastically. The customer service had never been a problem, it was the wait that struck a chord with me last time. This time, my food was delivered almost instantaneously. And I understand, wait times are based on customer volume. Last time was merely miscommunication on the cashier's behalf. I tried the #Bacon and Medusa rolls this time. The seaweed was still sloppy in the way it was wrapped. But it didn't matter at that point because I inhaled both of them. #Bacon's got a spicy kick to it...but who knew bacon could taste so good in a sushi burrito? The Medusa roll is my new favorite. It's got a perfect amount of crunchiness, thanks to the asparagus. And the flavors of all the ingredients meshed really well. It was literally an explosion of foodgasm in my mouth. What this business does successfully is they're risky and innovative. They play around and surprise you with ingredients on their menu items that aren't typically found in a standard sushi burrito. BUT...it works. This is how they're going to stand out from the rest of the Japanese restaurants. Glad I came back or else I would've missed on a hidden gem in Springfield.
