All a step up from any other Japanese restaurant in Eugene. Quietly located in Oakway Plaza this beautiful clean and very comfortable place has become our local favorite. Warm friendly and attentive service we feel at home here. With indoor and outdoor service the atmosphere is warm, inviting and relaxing. Really wanted to like this place due to the convenience of location. Their menu is quite extensive. We ordered a variety of rolls and unfortunately we were still hungry after ordering and eating a second round of food. The rolls are small and quite pricey for the size. We spent $200+. The restaurant is a nice inside and there is plenty of seating; however, the service is extremely slow as previous reviews have stated. The food and service were good, I appreciated the big menu with lots of options and honey ginger tea is always nice to see when a place has that on offer. Only two small complaints: toward the back of the restaurant was this annoying hum, I think probably from an ice machine or other piece of equipment. Thankfully, loud rock music helped muffle it. The waitress was nice and the escolar was good but the pork belly ramen tasted like it had old pork in it. All I could taste was the rancid pork taste. I was the only customer in the restaurant so it wasn't a mistake made because they were too busy to notice. It also smelled like the bathroom all the way from the table. read more

The food was great! Unfortunately the service was not. They started closing way ahead of their posted hours and made us feel like an inconvenience. Our server rushed us the check when we were barely halfway through our meal, and then they blasted the music to try and get us to leave. Pretty shocking how rude they were. In need to find a place to eat, we choose Umiya Sushi for a try. Walking in, the vibe of the place was very cute and cozy looking. I really enjoyed looking at the decorations and the set up of the restaurant. During our stay, it took a while for things to get started. However, it was reasonable since there was only one server working that night-- and she did a great job at checking in on us if we needed anything. The menu was what you'd expect when dining into a Japanese restaurant. They had many options to choose from. We ordered a few different sushi roles and nigiri. The rolls were okay. I got the Volcano roll and I wished it was more crispy. I feel like they just put it in batter once and fried it with no panko layer. The other rolls were alright. We also got a bento box and bulgogi which were okay. My friend said that the meat was very chewy and the pork katsu was more panko than pork. While dining, the music was a bit loud and was playing some surfer/country? There was also just a still image of a sushi roll on their T.V which we found funny. Overall, this place was okay. This place was great and I'll definitely go back soon. I got a lunch combo with the Philly roll I believe with smoked salmon and it was really good tasting and I think it was teriyaki tofu, salad and rice. The tofu was very soft and delish and whatever the salad dressing was it was really good. I went for my friends birthday and we had a pretty big group but we still got served in good time. I have had consistently good experiences here! They have been a great dining option during covid with their outdoor seating or the option to get it to go and eat in the courtyard. Their prices are on par with other sushi restaurants and the sushi is always great! The restaurant is always clean and is never very loud even when it is busy. It's a great environment. Parking was so-so, which is typical for the Oakway Mall. Atmosphere is moderately noisy. Place is clean. Menu is large and well-designed. Service was slow, giving me the impression they are understaffed. Ordered Nabeyaki (chicken) Udon and got Sukiyaki (beef) Udon. My ticket indicated Nabeyaki, so the kitchen must be at fault. The accompanying salad arrived after my bowl, with their choice of dressing, not mine. It's evident they are not much interested in my company, and I am very much inclined to comply. read more

Ordered takeout from Umiya last week and it was my first time trying this restaurant. Points to start out with as everything was packaged well for travel. One bag even half tipped over on a sharp turn and didn't have any spillage! We ordered one of the family combinations, the Samurai, which is a great deal. You get an order of shrimp tempura along with 3 rolls + miso soup for $30. They aren't the fanciest rolls on the menu but if you just need an affordable sushi fix for 2+ people, be sure to check out the combos. I love the special 20+ ingredient rolls like anyone else, but the cost adds up fast when you have hungry sushi eyes (esp. hubby). We also added some potstickers to our order, which I wouldn't do again--at least for takeout. Umiya fries theirs, which is perfectly fine, just doesn't travel well. They weren't crisp still, nor really soft so it was kind of weird texture experience. The potstickers did come packaged with a little side salad which was nice and unexpected. I always hesitate to review off of just To-Go (not the same as dining in), but thus is most of Yelping during the pandemic. :) We'll probably be back in-person to check it out again, hopefully, sooner rather than later. read more

Ordered from Umiya for the first time hoping to find a good sushi place in Eugene. Asked nicely for them to put two of the rolls in the same box. I did this because those two rolls were cold and the other roll ordered was warm (the crunch roll). Got the receipt with a note saying "you'll live". Came here last weekend and was disappointed at first because I did not know Mio was leaving. However I was pleasantly surprised to know the chef and many of the employees stayed. I ordered the rising moon and the Machu Picchu, however, our server mistook the rising moon for the "red moon" fried roll. I LOVE a big menu- but the problem is it can be super confusing for the employees and customers and result in wasted food. :( Also, we really wanted to try the "sushi ya" roll that is displayed on the menu but we could not find the actual menu item! After our food came out we found out it was a misprint for the "Umiya" roll. Overall our sushi was fresh and tasty and our server was patient and friendly. Fast delivery. The smokiest smoked salmon nigiri ever. Kani Nigiri was too much rice but the Dungeness crab was good. Less rice with same amount of crab would be better, the crab was overpowered by rice. The Sea World Roll (points for name), was a mess of Mayo and crab on top. Oversized, which was expected, however 5/6 pieces came apart trying with chopsticks. Most places will seaweed wrap a roll this big, which I think they should try. I felt like Shamu eating this big messy thing XD Drinks are too expensive. If you're selling someone $30 of sushi, is it too much to ask for them not to gouge on the soda? Soy sauce packets tasted cheap. Perhaps dine-in they use different sauce? Kikkoman or something? This "Double Hi Brand," is gross. Didn't come with a cup to mix the wasabi and soy sauce. I thought I was in for a treat, seeing how they are located in the oak way center, but damn I am disappointed. I'll start by saying this is probably one of the saddest sushi places in the area. Seriously there is no character to the aesthetics, completely falling flat into any sort of decor that makes you fell comfortable. The food itself lacked any spirit, and honestly ignited a sense of rage inside of me. The likes I try hard to keep internal. I didn't order anything crazy, a spicy tuna roll, a veggie roll, and a miso ramen. Upon receiving my food, I instantly notice that my ramen look as if it's instant ramen, with a few toppings thrown into it. I refused to believe they would serve me instant ramen, and dig in, low and behold what do I find, the freeze dried dehydrated veggies that come in the ramen packs. I immediately call my waitress over and ask her to remove it from my bill, cause I didn't come here to be served $3 instant ramen for $15. She told me the owner said she can't take it off the bill, and I have to pay full price. At this point I'm already pissed and am hopping for any relief. So I eat a piece of my spicy tuna roll, I instantly regret my decision. The rice was was over cooked and turned to mush inside my mouth. Mixed with the poorly prepared tuna, it was enough to make me gag. I can assure you won't miss anything if you don't eat here. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with beef and the vegetable tempura which came with miso soup. The miso soup was overly salty. The bibimbap was barely edible. The egg is normally fried sunny side up, but this egg was over hard with brown burn marks on the bottom side. Furthermore, the beef was overcooked and dry to a crisp. I only ate the vegetables in the rice bowl. The vegetable tempura was soggy through and through. The server was polite and nice. While we were there we saw two small groups sit down, look at the menu, and leave.. I wish we had done the same. The menu is way too big, which should have been the red flag to prompt us to leave. If a restaurant has that much variety on a menu, then most of it probably won't be very fresh or made on site. The sushi rice was very mushy. Definitely one of the worst spicy tuna rolls I've had.The fried rolls were better than the fresh ones, but that's probably just because things are better fried, and it made the mushy rice was less noticeable. Friendly enough service, the restaurant seemed very clean, and it had a cute bar set up. Make sure you double and triple check your orders with whoever is taking it down AND before you pick it up, they forgot an item and refused to comp us for it.
