Five stars isn't enough…read more While visiting Oelwein for family business, I stopped into MA & PA's Diner for lunch. The food was excellent, and the famous square pancakes absolutely lived up to the hype. After I returned home to California, I realized I had accidentally left my clip-on sunglasses at the diner. I expected they were gone forever. Instead, the staff found them, carefully packaged them, and mailed them back to me at their own effort. That level of customer service is incredibly rare today and says everything about the kind of people who run this restaurant. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere felt welcoming, and the hospitality extended well beyond my visit. If you're passing through Oelwein, make this a stop. Come hungry, order the square pancakes, and enjoy a little taste of what "Iowa Nice" really means. Thank you again to everyone at MA & PA's Diner for your kindness and exceptional service. The panino ended up being a slightly thinly filled pepperoni roll with meatballs added which was slightly a downer. Had to ask for my refill as the waitress while nice seemed to be working the kitchen as well. Waited about 15 minutes to get my check from the time I took my card out and put it on the table. On paper it was cool...but nothing wowed me enough to recommend.

Rye toast on the side for the skillet and veggie omelette. Sunny side eggs on the skillet were done perfectly - hash browns soaked up the yolk as expected. French toast was tender. It was a steady pace and they had a great set up going. We were only in there for about 25 minutes. I think they must have had all there workers there today for the opening because there was at least 12 people working. They had a chain going for cold sandwiches and a seperate one going for online orders. I liked that they actually had a pick up stand set up for online orders its the first time I have seen one of those at a Jersey Mikes. The manager was all over the place helping where he could and even stepped in to make our sandwiches on the grill. My sister and I ordered a chicken philly (16) & big kahuna chicken (55) gluten free allergy. Absolutely wonderful. The only thing I have to say is that the gluten free bread was drier than I am used to and it was falling apart. I also watched someone make a gluten free cold sandwich while I was there and all I could see were bread crumbs all over the counter so I hope there was not too much cross contamination for them.

Might first beer so far with Pivo is their excellent their American Light Lager known as Rice ville Light Lager. As the name suggests this is a rice lager which I do really enjoy getting. This beer is crisp, slightly sweet, malty and a clean finish. That is a highly excellent beer and I can't wait to try more of their beer options.
