Because of the deluge of people in town, menu was taken out only and was choice of lasagna and a calzone type sandwich. They ran out of the lasagna just before we got to front so friend ordered food while I secured a cool spot to sit upstairs in bar. ALL of the staff were incredible and friendly. Bartenders were awesome and we put them to task. Several rounds. The "pizone", aka calzone was very good, fresh baked bread loaf with sauce, meat and cheese baked into it.

Arrived excited as I saw the menu had fried gizzards and also deep fried angus steak cubes. I ordered both and the panino. The gizzard breading immediately made me think of long John silver fried clams oddly enough. The steak was flavorful but a bit on the tough overcooked side. The panino ended up being a slightly thinly filled pepperoni roll with meatballs added which was slightly a downer. Had to ask for my refill as the waitress while nice seemed to be working the kitchen as well. Waited about 15 minutes to get my check from the time I took my card out and put it on the table. On paper it was cool...but nothing wowed me enough to recommend.

I really wanted to love this place but it was a big let down…read more First, we were there on a Friday, just before what is likely a very busy time. We sat at the bar. The servers were there, obviously waiting for customers to start arriving, and they were all congregating at the end of the bar, chatting it up. It was super unprofessional and pretty annoying. We were glad when the food came out quickly so we could just eat and leave. To be honest, I don't recall what my husband ordered. I got the pork tenderloin. The tenderloin was very tough and had zero flavor. Like, I don't think they even put salt in the coating, let alone any other seasonings. This is Iowa, if you can't make anything else at all, you should at least have a decent pork tenderloin. This was our second time trying the place. Both instances were equally underwhelming. I wanted this to be our "go to" place but sadly we won't return.

I went to the bathroom and heard the dish boy/cook using foul language stating he wasn't going to accommodate the request. He was super rude and sarcastically clapping at the game to make a point. We planned to all have dinner but left to a more accommodating restaurant. Any restaurant in town would be more accommodating and respectful than this place. We'll never return or spend a dime here again.

We hear that they hired away all the wait staff from Bill's - which recently closed. The have added a "party room" on the east end of the building - in what previously was an outdoor eating area with fire pits. The new party room and the large room on the west end were in use when we arrived. We had reservations for three on a Friday night and were seated promptly at a booth in the bar area. With the open ceilings and no carpet - it is LOUD in the bar. At the moment - they do not have a wine list - and - we may have been the first customers to order a bottle of wine. It was a red from Portugal - I don't remember the grape - but it was a good complement to our meal. All three of us ordered the Prime Rib special- medium rare. I chose the "loaded mashed" potatoes, Rick had the "regular" mashed and Mom had baked potato. Portions of prime rib were ample and prepared perfectly; tender - flavorful - delicious. The loaded mashed came with cheese and bacon - think - loaded baked potato. They were fine for something different - but for my taste - I'll stick with the more traditional baked potato next time. Even though we were celebrating Mom's 97th birthday - we opted for no dessert. Did not take a menu picture - but - in addition to the Prime Rib - they offer a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, pizza, and entrees. Well rounded menu for a quick bite after a round of golf - or coming out for an evening. Welcome addition to the northeast Iowa dining scene.

The turkey lacked flavor, so was way overpowered by the kraut. The baked potato clearly had been baked days before, then a weak attempt to reheat was made. It didn't even start to melt the butter. Mealy and gross.

First, I'd like to state that I have visited TG several times in the past. I was so excited to take my girlfriends as I had many amazing meals in the past with their vegan/vegetarian selections, and was confident we would all find something delicious. WOW. What a shock to see the "new" menu which had zero vegan options and the other items were basically an Applebees knock off. The sides we did piece together for a meal were ok and our one brave friend who ordered a chicken bacon wrap said it tasted like they made it hours ago and had no flavor or outstanding qualities. Our experience made me so sad and embarrassed for TG as we travel from out of state to visit decorah. We always look forward to our favorite pseudo sue and the menu, but sadly will probably never return. The restaurant was freezing, the service was not friendly, people had their toddlers screaming and running around at 9pm, just not what you want when you are looking to relax with a beer and food at the end of the day. If this is the demand here in decorah this is not it for your visitors.

These folks are totally on their game and worthy of a pilgrimage on the Tavern Trail. Dundee is a small gateway community on the scenic route to Backbone State Park, and the Bar and Grill a well known destination where bikers, car clubs, tractor rides, and everyone in the neighborhood rub shoulders, raise a glass or several, and indulge in great food from their postage stamp kitchen. It's pure tavern food at its most amazing best. Tenderloins, burgers, chicken strips, wings, great pizza, Friday Fish Fry, and absolutely awesome home made French fries are the heart of this comforting menu and guaranteed to satisfy. The Thursday wing special fills the place, and Friday Fish Fry packs even more folks in. I don't know how the servers keep up, but they never miss a beat. Hanging out here is a rural joy only known among the fields, hills, and hollows of this part of the country. My recent favorite here is the mushroom Swiss burger with home fries. The hand pressed burger is bigger than the bun, and dressed with plenty of cheese and mushrooms. Don't ruin this one with condiments. It's a thing of beauty without anything to distract from that simple perfection. The classic Iowa tenderloin is just that. Classic! Exactly the way they are supposed to be. You will never go wrong with one of these servings of hog heaven. Dundee pizza is a competitor too, but that's a separate review for another time. Just do it. Dundee Bar and Grill, another recipient of my personal 'Real Deal' award!
