After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I was also awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And the Chick-fil-A in the Bonsack area of Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Many times while driving in my pearl white Lexus by this Chick-fil-A I wondered why it was always full. And so I researched a little about it and I found out that it's a family-owned and operated business where with a passion for Chick-fil-A and a desire to provide their guests with more than just delicious, quality meals, but a "world class service, and gracious hospitality." Located on Orange Ave in the Bonsack area of Roanoke, Virginia, this Chick-fil-A officially opened on June 25th of 2015. It quickly won over the heart of the community through offering consistently great food, with fast and efficient service, by friendly and attentive staff, in a clean and family-friendly environment. It received a major renovation and reopened its doors on May 11th of 2023 with a modernized kitchen, enhanced dining layout, and streamlined drive-thru operations to handle peak hours. Since 2020, this location has become a major holiday landmark in the Roanoke Valley. Every winter, the restaurant team transforms the exterior and the surrounding hillside into a massive holiday display using over 100,000 Christmas lights. Motivating locals and from all-over to visit just to view the light show. Today I had the opportunity to dine there for the very first time to redeem my birthday reward that Chick-fil-A sent to my account in their app. I arrived around five-thirty in the afternoon and the place was already packed with two drive-thru lanes with employees delivering the orders to the cars in person. Inside I found a clean environment full of happy guests enjoying their food. At the ordering counter I was greeted and welcomed by a friendly young lady whom I explained about my birthday gift on the app and she graciously explained what I would do to redeem it. Then she proceeded to take my order. I ordered a Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich with a Medium Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Fries, a Peach Milkshake, and a Birthday Gift of a Free Chocolate Chuck Cookie. After scanning my app to redeem my gift and obtain points to my Chick-fil-A One Membership account. My order was ready sooner that I expected and the items all were fresh and hot, with.the Peach Milkshake nice and cold. The Waffle Fries were amazing. The Chicken Filet of the sandwich was thick, warm, and juicy. The bun was fresh, soft, and hot. And the milkshake was tasty and refreshing. Went in to the play area and noticed that the plastic tunnel/slide equipment was discolored and extremely sticky. I get that there are dozens of kids in here on a daily basis but it was so bad I took him out and was compelled to wipe him down with diaper wipes. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great service for customers with little ones but this space is not being maintained in a healthy manner. Yuk! I've been to many other Chick-fil-a's and never noticed this level of poor hygiene. Tables in the dining area were sticky too. Don't think I'll be dining at this particular store anymore. I did a family meal dinner and a special 3 piece chicken for $5, along with a medium drink. I thought that I could eat it all, because it was just chicken, right? I was wrong. Totally wrong. After leaving Chilis, my friend waited for me while I walked over to Popeyes to pick up my order. I had to wait 20 minutes because they were frying me up a new batch of chicken to satisfy my order. I ended up splitting my Popeyes order into 3 different meals. Lunch that day, dinner 5 hours later, and then the leftovers for the next morning's breakfast. I spent about $37, but split for 3 meals, it's pretty reasonable. It was worth the time and cost, since I didn't have to go anywhere after my friend dropped me off at the hotel nearby for the night. So, I just went ahead and stood in line after checking out of Walmart. Luckily for me, there was no line at the Subway and the lady behind the counter was nice, friendly, and pleasant. It was around 4:45pm and this Subway restaurant was a godsend. It took me about two minutes to decide on what I wanted, which was a footlong tuna sub. The prices here were average across the subway nation. $10-$13 per footlong is the normal amount nowadays. They were at temporarily out of barbecue sauce at the time, so I had to do a mayonnaise and honey mustard combination for my sandwich. Along with all the vegetables, except jalapeños, that was a delicious sandwich. I got the Italian herbs and cheese bread and my cheese of choice was the shredded cheddar cheese. Add in some pepper and oregano, and the sandwich was complete. The Subway restaurant was clean and it was cool to watch the Subway sandwich artist prepare my footlong. It was good and took about 7-10 minutes. I ended up grabbing chips and drink to complete the meal. I scanned my subway app to accumulate points and paid for my sandwich that way. The employee, "John" began by acting like I had to hurry even though they had a new menu and there wasn't anyone behind me. Then he put lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on a meatball sub instead of putting it on the Tuna sub. quickly wrapping it up. Then he mentioned the tip, and said it wasn't anything to get excited about. I looked at the receipt and the tip was $4.54. I told him I did not give him a tip. He said it was already rung up did I want a couple of cookies? I know a lot of places can't find help but this guy was abrasive and apathetic. He was training a new employee and I thought he should be the last person to be training a new employee. Most Subways are fine to go to but you really want to avoid this one. I will commend the manager. When I asked the manager for the employee's name he came out of the store behind me and offered to remake the Subs but I still was disgusted and just left. The meatball sub with lettuce, tomato and mayo is still in the fridge and now just describing it is stomach turning.

After informing me they were closed I offered $20, then $40, then $60, then $75 and the worker refused to make me a sub. I can't really call this poor costumer service, but I just thought it may be necessary to inform the masses that these people really follow rules. Even when $75 is on the line. I would totally make a sub for $75.

I even contacted corporate and the store owner and still the issue has not resolved. I will definitely not be ordering anything else from Jimmy John's and especially not a large sports team order.
