I made a mistake coming here on Father's Day. It was busy! I sat at the bar or counter. I had to wait a long time for my food because they were busy. The chicken tender skillet. It was a special. I stopped in for lunch around 1:45 on a weekday. A server pleasantly greeted me and told me to sit anywhere, so I did. There was one customer sitting at the counter and two tables of customers already eating. I sat for 5 minutes waiting for service. A menu...a cup of water. Neither was forthcoming. The girl who welcomed me was socializing with a table of customers. None of the 5 other staff members socializing behind the counter seemed interested in me. So I left and got a burger down the road at Hardee's (where I received friendly, efficient service). Maybe Angelle's has good food, but I wouldn't know. Truly a sweet find on an overnight right off of Route 81. We ate here on two occasions in one week. The food is fresh and arrived hot. The place is very busy and yet the the staff was so relaxed and warm with personal service. They even have patio seating alongside traditional diner indoor counter and table seats. Quick stop for lunch on the way down the highway. 3 of us for burgers one got breakfast. The wings appetizer was very tasty. One meal was made incorrectly, but they were quick to fix it and replace it. Server was very nice and I liked how you could see in through the kitchen and there were all female cooks ! read more

Oh my gosh. To be honest I saw the sign for Shoneys and immediately exited the interstate to go. But it's been closed for renovations since covid, said the sign. So disappointed. We got there about 1250, but all full up for a party of 5. Waited about 15 mins, as we sat waitress told us breakfast service was over. We mentioned online it says breakfast all day. She said hmmm really? Offered simple breakfast items like eggs and a meat. We passed and ordered lunch food. Later she came back and said our GM knows it's on there and shrugged it off. As we are eating another group leaves as they were told breakfast ended. They also mention to their waitress online it says all day and she says yea we know, it's wrong sorry. We randomly stopped by Angelle's Diner on a trip back to Northern VA and are so glad we did! I ordered the Cowboy Burger with an extra patty -- it was massive, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. My wife had the Cranberry Chicken Salad, which was fresh, filling, and full of great flavor. Our kids split the 2 Egg Breakfast and devoured it -- the fresh, fluffy biscuits were a big hit too. Our server, Angie, was outstanding -- incredibly attentive and personable, especially with two kids making a million requests. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. I love what they've done to the old Waffle House location. It's been spruced up nicely, and their food is still affordable while being better for you than greasy spoon food, while having all the flavor you want in a quick meal. The portions were generous but truly the waitress steals the show here. She was a riot to talk to and you can tell the regulars just love her. The best part of the meal was the dessert. They had a banana cream pie that was probably one of the best I've had since my mom stopped baking. It was truly spectacular, and worth the trip in itself. read more

I was traveling through Virginia for the first time and stopped for the night at a motel next door to Angelle's Diner. I was hungry after a long day of driving so just went next door to Angelle's not sure what to expect. What I got was delicious southern style cooking, fast friendly service, and a pleasant (if somewhat noisy) ambiance. I had pork chops and they were excellent, as were the mashed potatoes that came with them. When the bill came, I was very pleasantly surprised to discover I could pay online, a feature I really enjoy but didn't expect from a local diner. Not sure if I'll ever be back to this area, but if I do I'll be sure to have another meal at Angelle's. read more

Solid three star experience. Stopped by for lunch. Waited in the doorway and was basically ignored by staff for several minutes; no greeting, no a table will be ready shortly, just ignored. Weird. Finally seated and after the wait it was extremely disappointed to hear that breakfast was just 'eighty sixed'. I was under the assumption breakfast was all day. Sadly that is not the case. Another family must have read the same thing as once they were sat, they too were told no breakfast and the server sent them to Cracker Barrel. Just wow. Two orders fish and chips (substituted Mac and cheese for fries.) The grilled fish was fresh and nicely cooked. The fried fish was overdone and greasy (after requesting wel drained). The dinners were served in aluminum trays which were cold resulting in cold fish halfway through dinner. Hush puppies, slaw, and Mac and cheese were delicious. Indoor and Outdoor seating. Food- order the bloody mary ($6). Good portions and quality food. The waffles were good not spongy. I had strawberry and cream waffles (ate half) not too sweet, well balanced flavors. My son loved his chicken and waffles. We were looking for a Waffle House (not my first choice but I was being a good sport). Google insisted it was right here. We circled a few times and finally accepted we were going to Angelle's. Once we walked in, we knew this used to be the Waffle House. Definitely nicer. Same floorplan but updated paint and tables. And it was much cleaner. The staff were so helpful. Suggestions on our orders but also info about the neighborhoods around us. And now the food! This was such a wonderful burger. Juicy and flavorful. Perfectly cooked. And we were scared of the hollandaise on it so we got it on the side. But they were so right..it really tasted great with it. read more

Just stopped in for lunch based on all the great reviews. This place is terrific! Got a "sit anywhere" when we entered and menu/place settings followed. We settled on a blackened chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes/gravy and the gumbo. Both came out quickly, hot, fresh and tasty. Somebody knows what a roux is as the gumbo was dark with depth. We were in and out in 40 minutes, but didn't feel like we were rushed or had fast food. GREAT stop right off 81. Hubs and I stopped here for a late breakfast on the way to see our youngest at school. Decor was small town diner and very cute and clean. The service was super fast and friendly. I got the eggs and hash browns. Over easy eggs were cooked perfectly and hash browns were the right proportion of crispy and soft potatoes. My hubs got hash brown skillet with biscuit and gravy and two sunny side up eggs. He said it was very good. I got a to go cup for my tea and we were in and out in about 45 minutes. Great place. Have eaten here numerous times typically breakfast or dinner. I like being able to order breakfast for my dinner! Always prompt service once seated. Only had to wait for a table one time on a busy weekend morning which is understandable. Staff is friendly and will chat with you while you are waiting if they are not too busy. It's quiet, for a diner, which is nice. In retrospect, there was probably a reason for that. The staff is fine, service is decent. No complaints with that. But the food has almost no seasoning. We ordered a California Benedict, and the avocado was gross and brown, tasted like plastic. We also ordered the Florentine omelette- the spinach was raw, not even slightly wilted. Home fries, meh. The grits were a very strange texture, almost like they were mixed with gravy from the biscuits and gravy, but minus the sausage bits. They had a good flavor, actually the best part of the meal, but grits usually aren't like that (IYKYK). Again, almost no seasoning. And the plates were chipped, like in 5 or 6 places on my dish. If it's because business is tough these days, it kinda seems like it here. Like maybe they just aren't trying anymore. We weren't looking for anything bougie, especially from a diner type establishment, but we were disappointed, especially since there were so many good reviews on Yelp. If you're passing through I-81N and need a place to stop for breakfast, I would say keep driving by this one. read more
