His amazing wife, Mary, works alongside him and keeps Frank on his toes!!! Even though the shop is always busy, Frank NEVER rushes his customers out the door. There recently was a problem with the ordering of my new lenses, which caused a delay, but Frank was on top of it and kept me up to date until they arrived. Once again, Frank goes above and beyond. The vibe and customer service here are fantastic! I came because I broke the arm off my prescription sunglasses. When I arrived, Frank recognized me just from voice, as I had called a day earlier to check if appointments were necessary, which they weren't. He inspected my frames and kindly shared that while he could fix them, he recommended just buying new frames from the original retailer, and then he'd swap out the lenses for me, because it would be cheaper than him fixing it. This was really thoughtful of him to consider what would be most affordable for me. In addition to the lens switch, he also adjusted my regular glasses at no charge. You can tell that he has great passion for his work and is constantly busy because customers appreciate the care he puts into every service. He is warm and welcoming to all. Successful Vision popped up on a search. I was so glad I chose this shop. I was taken right on time for my appointment, and my eye exam was quick and thorough. The doctor answered all of my questions and was very careful. She was great! In addition, the owner was great, too. He really knows how to read people's faces and determine which frames look best on different people. For someone who is indecisive like myself, this makes the frame selection process infinitely easier. Not only that, he adjusted my horrible previous frames from the disaster that was Visionworks. I can not speak highly enough about Frank at Successful Vision. I have been going to him for several years and would never go anywhere else! Not only does he have a great variety of frames but he is so skilled in cutting lenses perfectly. I have worn glasses (with a strong astigmatism) for 35 years and he is the first person to cut the lenses in such a way that that don't look super thick and most importantly I can see perfectly clear. This is a fantastic place. Frank is very knowledgeable, patient and really wants to help you see your best! I was having significant difficulties with my prescription prior to coming to successful vision and Frank figured out the issues. Now, I'm seeing more clearly with a great reduction in headache pain that I realize was from a poorly fit pair (multiple pairs- progressive/sunglasses , work/computer intermediate distance) . I'd been putting off an eye exam for a couple of years now as the last place I went stopped taking my insurance (Vision Screening) and I hadn't much luck finding a convenient shop in Manhattan. I found Successful Vision through the Vision Screening website and since the shop is on my way home I thought I'd stop in and just confirm. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by how beautiful, elegant, warm, and welcoming the shop is. I was immediately greeted by Frank, one of the owners, and Jasmine. He and Jasmine gave me all the information I needed, helped me book my appointment, and I filled out all the necessary paperwork to save me time for when I came for my appointment during my lunch hour. When I came for my exam I was seen immediately by Dr. Chute. Eye exams can be kind of anxiety-producing for me as I'm relatively new to glasses and not accustomed to process, the drops, the machines, etc. Dr. Chute gave me a total eye exam (including dilation) and took the time to explain everything she needed to do step-by-step and totally put me at ease. I chose not to get new frames this time, just new lenses (progressive), and Frank explained in detail about how progressive lenses work and the adjustments I'll need to take when wearing them all the time (yes, I'll need my glasses all the time now; before I only needed them for distance). The whole exam took a just a little more than one hour, including the 30 minutes waiting for my eyes to dilate. I am so unbelievably happy to have found this lovely shop! I cannot recommend them highly enough for the level of service and attention and will definitely be back again. I could not speak more highly of this place and the owner! I went from needing to wear glasses only to drive at night to having to wear them while work in addition to the nighttime. I have always been a black rectangular glass wearer. Frank was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, caring, patient, and made me feel at ease. He decided to offer me a variety of frames and colors that best suit my face shape and coloring. No joke I would have never even glanced at the frames he presented. I would always pick rectangular. I didn't realize it did not compliment my face. I fell in love with the frame and color he had presented. If I could give Successful Vision 10 stars, I would. I had an eye and contact lens exam there a few weeks ago and have since been back several times to order and pick up my new glasses. I could not have been happier with my experience each and every time. Jasmine at reception was friendly and helpful; Dr. Lisa Chute gave me an excellent exam and revised my prescription so that I'm now seeing better than I have in many years; and the owner, Frank DePaolo, helped me find, order, and fit a beautiful new pair of glasses. It's clear that Frank is really committed to doing well by his customers, and by the UWS community too (there's a discount if you live locally, and he even shows local artists' work in his store). I asked him LOTS of questions in the lead-up to ordering my new glasses--about lenses, frames, and different lens treatments--and he answered all of them, patiently and thoroughly, and with real enthusiasm! I'm 74 and have been wearing glasses since grade school. This is the best shop I have ever been in. I recently had cataract surgery and was entitled to a pair of glasses through my insurance. It was not under the vision plan but under the medical plan. Two well known Optical shops told me my vision plan was terminated. I had my insurance company call them to tell them it was under medical not vision. One didn't understand and would not except the plan. The other said it would take 3 weeks to get my glasses. My insurance gave me a few shops under my plan. I tried Successful Vision. I called them and they immediately answered all my questions. When I arrived, Frank also told me my vision was plan was terminated, but the difference was he bothered to call my plan and find out all the details. Whew! Finally! Frank took a lot of time explaining my options. My insurance would cover the basics, but I decided I would try progressives.I was told it would be just a couple of days before my glasses were ready. They were ready on time and I was called. Never having had progressives before, it was a bit strange at first, but Frank walked me through how to use them, and now after a little practice, I find them wonderful and so easy to use. Gone are all those lines and little circles I previously used to separate my computer vision from my reading vision. This place is a hidden gem! Like many "busy" New Yorkers, life has gotten in the way of me doing important things for myself like getting an eye exam and updating my glasses, but luckily the fates have led me to Successful Vision. I find these guys on Yelp, after doing a little research, and decide to make an appointment over the phone. Frank, the guy who answers the phone, is friendly, informative, and makes the appointment no muss no fuss. Appointment day - when I walk into the shop I am pleasantly surprised with how quaint it is, like shopping for a hat or jewelry. Dr. Chute, one of the on-site optometrists is also friendly, explaining everything as she does it, answers all my questions patiently, and is thorough in her examination. By the way, Frank isn't just the guy who answers the phone, he's the guy who helps me pick out the right frames, makes sure I am making an informed decision and all around makes me feel comfortable with the process ---- oh and by the way, he's also the guy who makes the glasses.....his enthusiasm and passion for not only what he does, but the customer satisfaction, provides a masterclass in customer service, especially in this current climate where a sales person can make you feel like they are only interested in the end game of obtaining your money. I am very happy with the treatment I got from Successful Vision, and definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get their eyes checked or looking for new frames.
