This company is extremely unprofessional. I called and left a message and didn't hear back. I called again, (based on decent Yelp reviews) and Bill Sudlow answered. He was polite, but seemed very distracted. Ok, we al have crappy days, I get it, and he asked me to text my address to his phone. Well, as a homeowner, you really hate to hear that from a business. You know you are going to get a quote with enough markup to have all the bells and whistles of a fine storefront with a cheerful receptionist, so why am I texting my address to your cell phone? I say this now, but I did as was requested with the promise that Bill himself would come to look at my property. Instead, an hour late of the decided time, a guy named Erin shows up and he really really doesn't want to be at my house. He pretty much said as much as he said the customers were terrible, HMMMM....because of bad quality perhaps?, and that he was overworked. Again, HMMMM, Understaffed perhaps?.....In addition to this, his phone rang, 8, yes 8 times guys, and he took EVERY CALL for QUITE a while....in all fairness a few sounded like Bill needed this guy to coach him through one or more jobs from the gist of what I heard HMMMMM....again, organization, quality....??? so not every call appeared to be personal, but I had to stand outside at the proposed jobsite to wait on Erin to finish calls. Erin asked me questions that he should have had the answer to. I mean, reinforcing questions, rebar, PSI....I'm not the contractor, you please make the recommendation. Before these questions even came up he announces it's going to be expensive. Ok...He finally finishes his cell phone saga and measures. He then says he will get me a quote in a few minutes. 25 minutes later I get a knock at the door. A slab and driveway repair and a few steps, 20,000K with no breakdown of explanation. When I said it sounded high in price, he got huffy and said everyone else would be more. Guess I'll find out cause I'm not hiring these guys. Too many red flags. We recently had our driveway replaced by Ludlow Concrete. The price was fair and the owner sat down with me and explained the details of the price and the procedure. Other contractors had given me a verbal quote standing in my driveway. When I am planning a job like this that will be costly and involved, I prefer a written quote and time to discuss the details. The scheduler stayed in regular contact with me. The removal/installation date is dependent on weather. They worked with my schedule and patiently came up with a date that worked. Then, when they had a cancellation, they were able to work me in sooner. Due to impending rain, they decided to work a longer day and do the removal and installation in one day. I was skeptical. But they were terrific. I watched a lot of the process. At no time was any one of them idle. They worked together like a well oiled machine. The removal was quick - but not messy. Very little of our yard was torn up because of machinery. I thought there would be significant damage. But there was only some flattening of monkey grass - which can survive almost anything and was already recovering a day later. After the concert was poured, the workers were careful to avoid any footprints and the expansion lines look like they were put in by machine. Several neighbors have stopped by to compliment the new driveway. It really improves the overall impression of our older house. Though this says "Atlanta," I am in Stone Mountain & had a nasty, bumpy, broken 60 year old driveway and walkway. I called the Sudlow Tucker Office and was greeted with a friendly, professional answer by the office staff. We scheduled an appointment for Mr. Sudlow to come to our house; he was on time and immediately put me at ease. I asked a dozen questions and "what ifs." He patiently answered the questions thoroughly, including the "what ifs" / "could we insteads." He patiently discussed my ideas for alternative solutions. We discussed the possibility of tree roots under the concrete and problems they might cause. Mr. Sudlow explained the two day work process and follow up. I had confidence in the plan, the work, the successful outcome of the project. Onset of work was delayed three times because of weather; the office proactively kept me up to date. Result: completed job is more beautiful than I could have imagined! When I could again walk on the driveway I noticed splotches on the door where concrete had splashed up on it; Sudlow sent out a super pro who removed the dried concrete from the window frame and the door.....super clean-up! My mom has lived in his property for over 12 yrs. But 7 yrs ago he took her backyard & converted it into one of his concrete businesses! Its a residential neighborhood but Bill didn't care! He tormented this quiet block for more than 7 yrs. I had to get code enforcement involved in which he was told he had 10 days to remove his business & give my mother her backyard back. My mom is 76 yrs old and has asked Bill since day one to remove his business and give her peace of mind back. But he refused! The day code enforcement got involved Bill sent my mother a demand letter to vacate his property in 60 days! After 12yrs of her living there in which 7 yrs of those 12 yrs he operated his illegal business out of! Waking the block up at 5:30am with his dump trucks coming in & out all day & night! The block has mostly undocumented people &/or they or one of their family members are his employees or they were just afraid to tell so everyone just suffered but BILL didn't! Bill's money got longer, his businesses grew & this concrete company was illegal & should not have been operating out of my mother's backyard...I guess we'll be in court fighting Bill because this is elderly abuse and Bill knows he wasn't allowed to have that business there. Bill Sudlow came out to our home to quote a concrete slab for a hot tub. They are a family-owned business with an eye towards customer service and satisfaction. Sudlow Concrete just completed the replacement of our driveway and did an excellent job. They performed the work when promised, had the crew at our house long before 8:00 am each day - but did not start until 8:00 am - because there is a county ordinance about the time work can start each day. The workers were very professional and even did an excellent job around a drain that was in the middle of the driveway - completing the work exactly as we requested. They also had to place the pavers back around parts of the driveway - and again, that was done to our satisfaction. They did the job in two days and had all of their equipment, including the dumpsters removed before they left. At the completion of the job they did excellent work cleaning up the entire area, including pressure washing the road around our driveway. Nothing but great things to say about Sudlow. My neighbor got his entire driveway replaced by Sudlow and connected me with them and the whole process was easy and efficient. Tara got me set up quick with Mike to get a quote. I needed someone to expand my driveway and add a walkway to the front door and they were extremely reasonable on their pricing and their quality of work was evident by my neighbors driveway. Their crew showed up at 8 and was finishing the last area around 2:30. That's after removing old concrete, leveling and forming the area, then the concrete and finishing work was the easy part. I contacted Sudlow Concrete based upon my research and reviews found. They were most prompt in returning my call, following my request for a quote via their web site. Three or four days later Mr. Sudlow came to the house, provided an estimate (which I accepted) and within 10 days I had new driveway - a very long, sloping and winding driveway from the street - approximately 3,700 square feet of driveway. The removal and installation crews were very professional and knowledgeable, given I needed to have the new driveway slope away from my house for water flow control. The old driveway was removed on the first day, and the second day the new concrete was down and completed. My driveway was old, cracked and needed to be replaced big time. I purchased my house about a year ago and immediately knew before signing papers that I had to do something about the driveway.... soon. Here we are a year later and Sudlow was the right company for the job. I just had my driveway replaced by Sudlow Concrete and could not be happier with the hard work and quality job that I received. I was concerned at first due to weather but they did all the right things and took the driveway out in one day and waited to warmer better weather the next day to pour and finish. Sudlow Concrete was the 2nd estimate I got for some driveway repair and modification plus a small retaining wall. They came in considerably cheaper than the 1st estimate. They also agreed to build the wall out of brick that would match our house. The other contractor would only use concrete block. They showed up on time and got right down to business. When they were finished they cleaned up everything. I was very pleased with their work, especially the retaining wall. Both my father and my wife's father were brick masons so having the wall made out of brick was a bit meaningful for us both and they did a fantastic job. I will definitely call them again when I need concrete or masonry work. read more
