Super friendly and kind staff, but certain dishes can be hit or miss. But shoutout to this restaurant for being open on Christmas Eve - glad to have had a reservation and had peace of mind of not having to go looking for food on Christmas Eve. The hits of this meal were the oysters, onion soup, duck confit, and mont blanc dessert. The oysters are super fresh, slightly sea water tasting, but overall delicious. You can see them chucking the oysters in the front of the store. The onion soup had the iconic cheese top, with a great cheese pull. The onions were very caramelized, and the broth was a good balance of slightly sweet and very savory. The duck confit was super tender and had a delicious lightly sweet sauce drizzled on top -- almost reminiscent of char siu glaze. Definitely my favorite item of the night. They bring out a glass case of desserts you can pick from and explain each one, which is nice. Loved the richness of the chestnut cream on the mont blanc, and the cream inside was super light and airy. And not to mention, none of it was super sweet, which is great! The misses of this meal (not necessarily bad, just probably wouldn't get again) were the bread, fish, and suffren (unfortunately ironic considering the name of the restaurant). The complimentary bread was stale and really hard to chew. But hey it's complimentary, so won't complain too much. The fish was firm and not tender - I think it may have been overcooked. The sauce was too salty for our liking. Again, not bad, but just wouldn't get again. The suffren was a huge portion, so I'll give them that. There's plenty of variety, including various sausages, ham hock, and sauerkraut. One of the sausages was quite dry and mushy, and way too salty, while the other one was chewy, snappy, and delicious. The ham hock was on the saltier end as well, but tender and fell of the bone, so snaps to that. The sauerkraut wasn't that crunchy and was instead a bit mushy. Just had dinner at Le Suffren. Service was excruciatingly slow. Waiters were clearly overwhelmed dealing with a packed restaurant. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the long wait. I ordered the 'Véritable filet de bœuf béarnaise' as a main course, which was bland, tough, leathery, rubbery. Despite all efforts, couldn't finish it. Accompanying salad was over seasoned and too salty. Couldn't finish that either. The restaurant is located in a popular tourist area, and foreigners represented most of the customers. We got onion soup, two cocktails, red wine, two main dishes, and a creme brulee for about $190 USD (June 2024). This place was busy, so the waiter was managing a few tables. We still got good service and the food was great. I like this place because they have a good selection of cocktails and wine. Before we left, I asked our waiter if there was restroom, but he said no. The folks sitting next to us told me it was downstairs. I am so glad I did not leave the place having to use the restroom because as a tourist, you want to take every opportunity you can in an unknown area. The wine list was not very long, but I was able to find a bottle we wanted to drink. I got French Onion soup as an appetizer, and it was very tasty (it is better be when you are in the heart of France). We were sitting close to the entrance inside of the restaurant, and it was really fun to observe people coming in, shaking hands with the waiters, talking with them - it was a great feeling of a neighborhood restaurant where people come on the regular basis. My main dish was steak tartar and it didn't disappoint - it was delicious till the last morsel. Everyone in the group got different deserts (I stupidly decided to skip on one), and all the plates were polished clean, which really speaks to the quality. When people come to Paris, they expect the food the French are famous for the last decade or so. This is exactly that. I had a couple of friends who were not happy with their choices of French food at other locations. Suffren made them happy, I'm the best part is that it was not the heavy, overly fat French food. I enjoyed my snail, goat cheese, salad, and my beloved fish and potato dish. Their 16-year-old daughter was gaga over the octopi dish. While the rest have dined on different types of steak dishes. The coffee was good, and I was able to add my chocolate! So much better than the chocolate syrup people keep trying to add in the states to my damn espresso/cappuccino/latte. Having grown up with Swiss and Belgium chocolate I have truly been enjoying the quality of French chocolate, especially in my excellent French coffees! Well, I did not get my soufflé here, I was happy with the chocolate mousse and the typical Island dessert made with meringue surrounded by cream. The only hiccup we suffered was that their son was allergic to nuts and apparently could not have any of the sauced steaks due to an overabundance of caution by our waiter. But I guess better safe than sorry. Today our dinner reservations were later than I prefer to eat a heavy meal, so next time I will try the duck. Service was excellent. The staff was excellent. But then again tourist traps don't have to mean the place is bad. But it's bad. It meets every negative stereotype. Tourists. English menus. Rude and slow service. My dining companions and I tried to be cheery and the staff cheered up a little, but service was definitely slow and uncaring. The food was even slower. The steak taretare was semi made at the table. (Mixing mustard and sauces etc but it was just soso for the price. Not horrible but not great either. As opposed to other photos on Yelp mine did not have raw egg in it. Also I had to order fries separately. The side "salad" was laughable. A few sprigs and some vinegar. It's like they ran out of a large plate but I got a large plate of fries. We wanted some really good seafood and read good things about this place based on reviews. We made reservations and when we got there they seated us immediately. They ended up squeezing us next to another couple and a few minutes later, they squeezed another couple next to us on the other side. It was a very tight space and a little uncomfortable but we realized it might be the Parisian way of restaurants. As everyone left their tables, we all had to move our tables and suck in to get by and hope that we didn't know their food down. For starters we got the onion soup. It was pretty good. Lots of cheese and flavorful. My husband got the sea bass and said it was okay. Nothing too special. We shared a platter of mussels and oysters and it was a lot. They had other seafood platters that had shrimp, snails, and crab but it was pretty expensive so we stuck with a platter that wasn't too expensive. For dessert, we got crème brûlée and it was okay. Yummy yummy yummy! This place is pretty unassuming, from the decor to the waiters but the food is so good! We were looking to start our busy day so we were looking for a place that had a pretty reasonable breakfast that would fill us until our next meal. This place definitely hit the spot! We ordered their "English Breakfast" which included orange juice, coffee (espresso, latte, au lait, and I forgot the other options), a fruit cup, croissant, baguette, and eggs (the scrambled eggs were absolutely delicious I craved them every day for the rest of our trip and even when we got home) all for about 9€. My first experience with Le Suffren was about ten years ago, and I remember it being a great one, so when I got the chance to visit Paris again, I didn't want to leave without making a stop. They didn't disappoint. It was just as good - if not better - the 2nd time around! The staff is attentive, funny and welcoming! We are a party of three. They served bread with butter as they took in our orders. We started out with the seafood platter followed by French onion soup. For the main course, we had the steamed seafood, lamb and rib eye. "Amazing" is not even enough to describe how wonderful the dishes were. The quality is out of bounds! What made it even better is they timed when to serve each course. I don't want to say that it is a tourist trap but that was pretty much the whole population dining here. The service was fantastic, no complaints. The food was just ok, it was not memorable. My husband got the steak but it was drenched in a sauce so you really can't tell how fresh the steak was to begin with. I got the mussels and it was quite bland but did the job nonetheless. I would not say its a must dine in when in Paris but if you need a place that is open for a late meal, this is comparable to an American diner at best. read more

If you want a delicious but simple breakfast all for only 13€, this is your place! Also recommended by a local I met in a nearby pharmacy for great seafood! Right on the corner of Avenue de Suffren and Avenue de la Motte Picquet, near the area of Champ de Mars and the Eiffel Tower, you can't miss it, especially at night because the outdoor seating is usually packed with people. While I was in Paris I ate here 3 times, and I was only in Paris for 2 days, that's how much my family and I loved this place. We came twice for breakfast and once for a super late dinner. They only have 2 options for breakfast. The 13€ breakfast option consisted of orange juice, your choice between a coffee, a latte, or a tea, a slice of toast with butter and this yummy apricot jam, a croissant, your style of cooked eggs, and a fruit cup. And if you don't get the breakfast, at least taste the croissants, the croissants are to die for! Nothing compares to these croissants, you're slacking America! Unfortunately I never got to try the seafood, but if you look at the pictures on yelp, it looks mouth watering and definitely worth a try. Without a doubt the service is 10/10 amazing! Everyone is so friendly and especially accommodating. My family's last night in Paris we were out late looking for a place to eat, we went to this one restaurant across the street from Le Suffren, it was suppose to close at 12am and it was only 11:40pm and they wouldn't let us in because the manager said the kitchen was already closed. We checked on Yelp that Le Suffren closed at 12am too, so we went there to take our chances, and by our luck they automatically sat us down and let us order off the menu. We ordered a red sauce pasta and steak and fries, the food came out right away and was delicious. The waiters also speak English, which is always a great help when you don't really know the language. Very touristy. Food is below alright. There's hair still on my duck. Or I don't know what that is. It's previously made too. They just heat it up my duck. And I had a rum cake. Which is just pears and pineapple soaked in rum with whip cream lol. When Parisian say there's rum in a dessert. There's REALLY rum. No kidding. Last time I got fucked up from a rum crepe! And this one too, liquor is really strong. Way too pricey for the below average food they have. The first thing I checked is their glasses and plates. All their glasses are dirty with the lint on the cloth that wipe the glass still hanging ..... Really?! I was really hungry so I just devised to stay and eat here or I would've died of hunger. Wonderful dining! Super Parisian interior and outdoor patio- loved the vibe. The cool thing is that you have tourists dining alongside young couples and elderly ladies speaking rapid French- felt super authentic and unique to Paris. Grilled chicken with green beans was a hearty portion, well seasoned, and very tasty! Wine selections were nice as well. Of course, the bread was out of this world amazing. ALL of the servers so obviously avoided eye contact with us. After 15 minutes of waiting, I caught our server passing by to take our order. He did not even look my way and brushed his hand off to me. This brasserie is very close to the hotel that My husband and I stayed during our trip to Paris. We went to Le Suffren on our first night as we were not familiar with the city yet and we had no reservation to other restaurants and didn't want to go too far away from the hotel. Since it was our first day in Paris, we were a little intimidated by the fact that we did not speak any French. The restaurant is pretty big, upon entering they immediately seated us and gave us an english menu (thank god!!). However the english menu did not look that good with just the usual americanized dish such as burger and sandwich etc. At the corner of the menu they had a "special list" all in french. Our waitress barely spoke english well, but when I asked if she could help me translate, she looked panicky at first but she tried her best to help me out which I really appreciate. Honestly I felt bad that I did not speak any French and forcing this poor woman to speak in english for me! I got the Mussels with fries in a cream sauce which was very delicious but the mussels were on the small side. My husband got the steak and he said it was just ok, little overcooked. We also got the Profiteroles for dessert and they are the biggest I have ever ate!!! Overall a good meal for my first night in one of the most beautiful city in the world. After a 10 hour flight, The Lourve and Sacré Coeur, my husband and I were starving (to say the least)! We were staying at a hotel nearby and decided to walk around until we saw a restaurant that caught our eyes. The location is great, it's near the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars and is fairly close to a Metro stop (La Motte-Picquet - Grenelle). It's located on the street corner so you can't miss it. We sat in the corner next to the window and had an eye full of the beautiful city while we sipped wine, talked and ate our wonderful meal. I never write bad reviews about a establishment unless it's service has left me felt discriminated against. I arrived at Suffren with with high expectations since I love to try different seafoods at different countries. When I arrived at the restaurant they greeted me in French and expected me to speak French. Their demeanor completely changed once they realized that I didn't speak French. They sat me at our table and threw the English menu on the table. I waited 10 minutes for them to take my drink order before I had to make hand gestures to get their attention. One of the waiter shook his hand at me to wait without looking at us. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy. The restaurant was half empty and they had more than ample servers that were attending to new customers and taking their drink orders in French of course. After, waiting another 10 minutes feeling completely invisible since they would not even look at me, I knew I was never going to be served. I decided to wait another 5 minutes before I walked out of the restaurant... and yes you guessed it, their servers never came back to my table. I was literally right in front of the cashier and they just avoid my table for 25 minutes. When I walked out of the restaurant, the server had the audacity to say "Bye"... well I hope the owner understands that they lost business and I am sure I wasn't the only foreigner that have felt this utter disappointment. read more
