Best breakfast I've had in my entire life!!! Service is great, tea and coffee are always good. Very relaxing environment and the waitress is hot . Tilapia w/ Larry Style eggs is my favorite.

This is my 3rd time eating at the Sugar Bowl. Last week was Restaurant Week in Mount Vernon. So my daughter and I decided to take her bf to brunch for iD bday. This local spot is viewed asa hole in the wall, but I must say they serve the best breakfast and you get your money's worth. I asked the waitress who is an older woman I believe her name is Mary what the specials for restaurant week were and what the discount was? She wasn't sure of either. She yelled out to an older gentleman named Mike ( the owner)and he came over to our table. I referenced that his restaurant was listed on the Mt. Vernon website as a participant of restaurant week. He was very gracious and said there were no exact special but tell him what we'd like and he'd take the tax off the bill. I was also curious as to who "LARRY" was as all the eggs listed on the menu are called Larry and his name was Mike. He told us a great story of how the eggs cane to called "Larry". My daughter finally got the salmon cakes she had her mouth all watered for. And enjoyed ever bite. Her bf has the fried shrimp & grits w/ Larry. I had a Belgium waffle Home fries w/ Larry. We got the bill and were told out drinks were free as well. Great meal. Good service. And still had plenty of food leftover. But was to stuffed to eat it. I won't tell you who Larry is. You're going to have to pay the Sugar Bowl a visit and ask Mike yourself. You won't be disappointed.

First time visiting and I enjoyed very well. The hospitality, atmosphere and overall service was great. Food was good, no complaints there. The waitress was an older lady and she was pleasant as well as very humorous and I enjoyed her jokes and her service. They pride themselves in being there since (pardon if I get this wrong) 1940's. Only reason 1 star less is because it was hot as hell in that joint and I almost sank into the seat/ booth. I get the whole keeping the old school atmosphere/ home-feel vibe but c'mon. At least the seats could of used an upgrade over the years. The interest is to bring in and seat more customers. But overall, enjoyable visit.

I was deciding between the turkey salad and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta from the lunch specials and asked our server how the chicken salad was, She said it was her favorite and that it was a lot of people's go-to, so I decided to order that. Our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Heritage Nachos, Loaded Tater Tot Skillet, Philly Cheesesteak, and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta. The nachos weren't really for me (I didn't love the type of chips used), but the tots were good and my boyfriend liked his cheesesteak. I absolutely loved the chicken salad sandwich and fries. I get a little fixated on foods I like, so I had honestly been craving that sandwich ever since. 3/14 SECOND VISIT: I decided to come back on March 14 specifically hoping to order the chicken salad sandwich again. It was much busier due to St. Patrick's weekend,I was alone, I was seated in a booth in the back. I was given the dinner menu, so I asked the server about the chicken salad sandwich I had previously ordered. She didn't recognize the sandwich but offered to ask the kitchen after I showed her a photo and the menu from my previous visit. Unfortunately she came back and said they couldn't make it. She suggested a grilled chicken sandwich, but I declined since I'm not really a fan of grilled chicken. I ended up ordering the turkey sandwich and asked for a few modifications (no stuffing or cranberry mayo, just regular mayo on a ciabatta). When the food came out, I immediately knew it wasn't turkey. I waited until the server came back and asked her to confirm what meat was on the sandwich. She initially told me it was turkey. After taking it apart & having a few bites I knew it wasn't turkey. I winded up eating the fries and asking for the bill. I decided to show her the inside of the sandwich again and asked her to double check with the kitchen, she returned and confirmed it was actually ham, even though the ticket showed that she ordered turkey. She did offer to remake the sandwich, but it would have taken another 10-15 minutes and at that point I was already over it. I ended up just paying, and leaving. I completely understand that menus change and servers can't memorize every item. I just wish the sandwich had been confirmed with the kitchen sooner when I questioned it the first time. Overall, my first visit was great, and that chicken salad sandwich was honestly amazing. I just wish the second visit had gone a little smoother.

To make matters worse, one person in our group didn't receive his meal until everyone else had already finished eating. The owner stopped by and casually explained that this "sometimes happens on busy days," and offered us drinks for the inconvenience--but we were still charged for them at the end. When we brought this up to our server, she claimed she wasn't aware of the offer, and we ended up paying full price for everything. Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience, with very poor customer service.

It made an otherwise somber occasion a little less sad. 2/28/26. We had a family memorial luncheon, originally reserved for 16 people, it soon became 20 people. Rory Dolan was very gracious and accommodating, rearranging tables to accommodate the group. We had a section in the upper dining area to ourselves. There's an extensive adult beverage menu, with of dozens of beers on tap and on ice, wines, and liquors. See photos. The food menu had the expected Irish fare; shepherds pie, salmon, corned beef, and cabbage, etc. There were some Italian inspired appetizers and mains, even Korean flavors. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted off the regular menu. Service was impeccable, the restaurant has an inviting ambience. I noticed there were a lot of "regulars" there this particular afternoon. It's still a pretty cool "watering hall". They have live music on the weekends and they also sponsor local event events.

They have a spacious bar and restaurant area, that is conveniently located on McLean Ave. It is a lively space but the decor and dark wood make it seem more like a historic location. I would definitely order this again. Can't wait to stop back in.

I grabbed a tin of Shepard's pie for $7 (they had a hot option, but I wanted it for work the next day). It was quite tasty and a very good size for the price. In addition to the prepackaged reheatables and salads, they also have a hot food bar where you can get a fresh plate--small around $9, large around $12. It was post-Thanksgiving and they had roast turkey and sides--pretty decent as well--again, good portion for the price--I might have been a little turkeyed out at that point, though. They also have a sampling of sweets and pastries and a coffee/tea bar up front. A couple of stools if you want to eat in, but really seems best suited for grabbing something hearty and, well--not unhealthy, at any rate--for lunch or dinner when you don't have time to cook.
