The decor is Bright and Inviting. The bathroom's are PRISTINE!!! The view of the cooking area is quite good and the sanitary maintenance is Immaculate!!! This is my 3rd time eating at the Sugar Bowl. Last week was Restaurant Week in Mount Vernon. So my daughter and I decided to take her bf to brunch for iD bday. This local spot is viewed asa hole in the wall, but I must say they serve the best breakfast and you get your money's worth. I asked the waitress who is an older woman I believe her name is Mary what the specials for restaurant week were and what the discount was? She wasn't sure of either. She yelled out to an older gentleman named Mike ( the owner)and he came over to our table. I referenced that his restaurant was listed on the Mt. Vernon website as a participant of restaurant week. He was very gracious and said there were no exact special but tell him what we'd like and he'd take the tax off the bill. I was also curious as to who "LARRY" was as all the eggs listed on the menu are called Larry and his name was Mike. He told us a great story of how the eggs cane to called "Larry". My daughter finally got the salmon cakes she had her mouth all watered for. And enjoyed ever bite. Her bf has the fried shrimp & grits w/ Larry. I had a Belgium waffle Home fries w/ Larry. We got the bill and were told out drinks were free as well. Great meal. Good service. And still had plenty of food leftover. But was to stuffed to eat it. I won't tell you who Larry is. You're going to have to pay the Sugar Bowl a visit and ask Mike yourself. You won't be disappointed. read more

Sugar Bowl is a good hole in the wall spot. My bf and i go there often for breakfast. Today we called an order in at 8:30 am. My bf went to pick it up. Got home and realized some food was missing. We called back at 9:30 and told us they will deliver the missing food. Now its 10:30 and no food. We call back, go back and forth with them because they want to charge us for their mistake. By this time it is 10:50 am, still no food. My bf finally went back to the place to get his money back. Note to Sugar Bowl- 1) fix your phone. You guys have a terrible clicking noise on your end. 2) make sure that whoever is taking the order know how to add 3) don't bs your customers. You lost 2 because it took yall 2 plus hours to fix YOUR mistake. read more

First time visiting and I enjoyed very well. The hospitality, atmosphere and overall service was great. Food was good, no complaints there. The waitress was an older lady and she was pleasant as well as very humorous and I enjoyed her jokes and her service. They pride themselves in being there since (pardon if I get this wrong) 1940's. Only reason 1 star less is because it was hot as hell in that joint and I almost sank into the seat/ booth. I get the whole keeping the old school atmosphere/ home-feel vibe but c'mon. At least the seats could of used an upgrade over the years. The interest is to bring in and seat more customers. But overall, enjoyable visit. read more

My bf has been coming here since he was a kid & finally took me. This place is DELICIOUS and really makes you feel at home. I love everything especially the breakfast & lunch foods. I usually get Larry style eggs with house fries and bacon, or their cheeseburger. The french toast is good and their grits honestly almost everything is delicious. BIG RECOMMENDATION!! :) read more

after driving by this place for 10yrs and never giving it a shot. This morning I decided to drop in a grab take out for breakfast. I have to say it is maybe the best breakfast I've ever paid for. The home fries were great, the bacon was good, the eggs "Larry style" (scrambled with cheese) were great as well as the peppers and onions. The girl working the front counter was super busy but did a great job not forgetting or mixing up anyone's order including my coffee exactly how I wanted it. Another reason why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Way better than any diner in the area. read more

I only been here a handful of times.. The food is good but the restaurant is not clean on two different occasions I was greeted by a mouse running around and second time lets just say that roaches were coming from every where.. I'm so mad because the counter lady killed it right in front of me and handed me my food like I didn't notice the rodents that are taking over... I will not return to this establishment .. First time I went I ordered eggs, bacon, home fries. I unfortunately "Larrified" it. Big mistake. The cheese added to the eggs was unsettling, tasted artificial, grainy and overall did not go well with the meal. I couldn't even identify it as a cheese. I've eaten cheese and eggs before and I can assure you there was something wrong. Larry said there was a long story to his "Larrified" meal when I ordered it- I'm glad I didn't ask. The place is run down. Really run down. I remember the place being redone 30 years ago. It's deteriorated steadily since. It's a mess. Only newer thing there is a small flat screen that Larry watches from the cash register. Second time around was for a coffee and paper, hence the upgrade to two stars. Sugar Bowl has seen much finer days, but it's dying; in an area of town that's becoming a ghost town with plenty of commercial space available, manufacturing companies closed or moved; and no reprieve in sight. read more

Nice cozy spot. A local hood spot, but a cool ambiance. Latin cooks who know their way around a breakfast or lunch (they don't serve dinner, so last call is 3 or 4pm depends on the day). I have been ordering from them for a few months now since I was told about it for so often. The fact that they deliver is a major plus. The food is delicious and their eggs and French toast are amazing! When I first started ordering the food came in a timely manner and piping hot. I would've given it 5 stars if this was consistent. However, recently [maybe the last 3 times] I have been highly upset and disappointed. I waited up to an hour the last time I ordered prior to today. The food wasn't even warm so I had to heat it up. This place is less than 10 mins away from my house so regardless of how busy it is, it shouldn't take that long. AND my food's not even warm. The delivery guy is familiar with my house now yet still I'm waiting an extended amount of time to receive less than warm food. Then he asks if I still want it or not like it's not a big deal. There is a disconnect with delivery and Sugar Bowl being that when I call to find out my order I can never get an ETA. All they say is "he left a while ago". I will be calling to complain being that today I ordered and once again my food was late AND barely warm. Get it together or find a second delivery person and maybe you'll make even more $$ BC he clearly has no sense of urgency. But the FOOD gets 5 stars. read more

Nice place but lack professionalism. The girls that answer the phone are rude. Some days they deliver other days they don't. Some days they will deliver to you other days it's too far even when it's close. They need to be more consistent. Food taste good tho. read more
