I had such a wonderful brunch experience at Alvin & Friends in New Rochelle that I had to write a review. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and clean, with nice music playing in the background that really set the mood for a relaxing brunch. The staff and service were excellent everyone was friendly, attentive, and professional. The drinks from the bar were honestly some of the best I've had in a long time. The bartender definitely did not skimp on the liquor, and the drink was perfectly made. For brunch, I ordered the omelet with jerk shrimp and it was absolutely delicious flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the catfish and she loved it as well. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. She also ordered dessert and really enjoyed it. Toward the end of our meal, Alvin, the owner, came over to our table and introduced himself, which was such a nice personal touch and made the experience even more special. Before leaving, I even ordered food to take home because the meal was that good. Overall, this restaurant was an excellent choice. Great food, great drinks, great service, and a great atmosphere. My friend and I enjoyed it so much that we are already planning to come back again with our husbands. I would definitely recommend Alvin & Friends for brunch. read more

I would give six stars if I could! I came here for Sunday brunch. They don't have dedicated parking, but there is a convenient public lot right across the street. The restaurant is modern, crisp, and bright, with colorful paintings adorning the walls. The menu is provided on digital tablets at the table, which are more convenient than having to scan a QR code. They have a great selection of custom cocktails. I ordered the rum punch and enjoyed the sweetness and fruity flavor. For my main, I had the avocado toast. The bread was soft, thick, flaky, and slightly sweet. The avocado was fresh and chunky. Based on reviews, I also got a side of the mac and cheese and it did not disappoint. It was well seasoned with creamy cheese and a well done top layer. My husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits. For dessert, we had the bread pudding. This took about twenty minutes to come out, which was a bit of a long wait. I loved the caramelized berry topping. The bread was a bit chewy, but still tasty. Service was excellent. The owner, Alvin, stopped by our table twice to make sure we were well taken care of. Can't wait to come back again with the rest of my family! read more

Came down from Connecticut to meet one of my girlfriends. I have not been here since 2019 and was craving their delicious mac & cheese. I was not disappointed at all by anything I ate. The mac & cheese was everything. I wish they had a bigger serving of it and I would've just ate that. You were only allowed to select from the brunch menu. Everything else however the chicken the collard greens was incredible. My girlfriend loved her meal. And the meatballs as usual were incredible. I've been coming to Alvin's for years. Popped in today for brunch. It was OK. The service has dropped off a little bit, but the food is still delicious. The catfish fritters are tasty. not shown here was the catfish with grits and collard greens, which was yummy as well as the chicken fried chicken and waffles, which was quite tasty there's a three dollar up charge if you choose dark meat That is something you're not aware of until the bill arrives other than that, this is a consistently good place. You should definitely come by. You'll enjoy the live music and the ambience while you're here. read more

We went to celebrate Candy's belated birthday dinner at Alvin & Friends. We had a good time listening to the live jazz band. The owner Alvin came and introduced himself to everyone at the table, which I thought was very classy. The restaurant has a very intimate, grown setting. The food was delicious. I had the Catfish with grits and black eye Peas. Birthday girl Candy had the Seafood Pasta, Tasha had the Peas n Rice with catfish croquettes and Diane had the Catfish, Grits without the Blackeye Peas. The bill was reasonable $250 for 4 people wasn't bad at all. Now, the drinks. I had the peach margerita and it was very good and sweet. Diane had the Coconut Martini, Candy had Fruit Punch and Tarsha had the Mojito which she stated was ok could have been better. Alvin is incredibly rude. He was so rude to us that his girlfriend who doubles as hostess was begging him to behave. Our crime was booking this place for my MIL's birthday celebration. Greedy Alvin was already booked solid with a gospel show but took our reservation anyway and tried to seat us in his dusty windowless dirty unprepared back room. The food is overpriced for what it is. I will talk everyone I know out of going there. Alvin ruined my MIL's birthday with his crappy planning and reservation taking. A plate of basic fried chicken is $30. Not worth you time or money. There are far better places with better food and service in the area. We left and had a better dinner at a real restaurant with good service (a steakhouse) elsewhere where we were treated with respect. read more

The food was spot on, we ate everything! The atmosphere is sooo homey and comfortable, all the staff very friendly; it was also great of Mr. Alvin to stop at our table for a friendly hello. Our waitress (who is also a teacher but I don't remember her name) wow, absolutely delightful, kind, attentive to our party. Alvin & Friends is a cozy local spot that serves comfort food with a fun twist of Caribbean flavors. Alvin was there, making you feel right at home, and it seems he loves everything about the place! They had live music with a piano player who had a great selection of songs. The prices are reasonable, especially considering how welcoming the restaurant is. The staff is always busy, and the bartender was working hard to keep up with the orders, so I'd give her five stars. The only thing that was a bit unusual was that if you're a party of one or more, a 20% gratuity is automatically added. I'd agree that with our experience, I would have given a 20% tip, but it felt a bit presumptuous to assume I had enjoyed the service without asking. If you disagree with the charge, you can always ask to speak with the manager. Our bill for three people, including one round of drinks, came to $243.91, plus the tip. read more

My fiancé and I were exploring around New Rochelle and we came across Alvin & Friends! I was a wee bit hangry at the time and a bit worried since most restaurants around the area were a bit empty, but when we walked past Alvin & Friends it was lively and looked like a great place to eat so we went in. I think they already won me over with the immediate offering of cornbread. The drink I got (a prosecco/chambord mix) was delicious. Then came the wings, grits, and jambalaya which left us happy and full on our way back to Manhattan. The surprise at the end of our meal, we met Alvin himself at the restaurant! Had a very nice visit to Alvin and friends this week. Eight of us had a ER hospital work reunion with dinner on a Wednesday night. We were lucky the place was very quiet, the staff was very attentive and we were taken very good care of. Alvin did say hi to us several times. Our group included vegetarians and everyone was happy with their food. We liked the chicken wings, the shrimp dishes and the salads. I will return with my family to explore further, hopefully on a jazz night. read more

When I came to New York a few years ago for vacation I came to Alvin and Friends. The food was good but the drinks were amazing . The bartender, I think her name was Nikita, she was so nice and introduced me to rum punch. A few weeks ago I traveled back to New York for a work trip and decided to come to see my favorite bartender. However she wasn't there another young lady, Nya I believe, was there and she was so rude and dismissive. The young lady spoke to me rudely and ignored me to speak to male customers. I love the decor. It looks like an art gallery and it shows that art should be displayed everywhere. We were greeted warmly with no hint of a negative attitude because some members of our party were late. When the rest of them arrived they were welcomed warmly too. A few minutes after we were seated our waiter came over introduced himself and told us what the specials were and that Happy Hour was in effect. The wait was not long for our drinks. They were happy "hour drinks" and because it slipped my mind about what is a happy hour drink I ordered one. So as far as my drinks go I wasn't thrilled with the Mango Margarita due to the quality of the drink. However my second drink was better and it was a happy hour drink I think. It was a good drink. It was a rum punch type. I enjoyed my time and so did my family. Most of my family thought their meal was good and that the atmosphere,decor, vibe and service of this restaurant makes it worth the time to come. True rating 3.5 I was invited to have brunch with a dear friend of mine. We were passed due to catch up. My friend had previously gone and raved about the spot. However, this time around, she was not impressed. I, on the other hand, was not disappointed. We arrived in between hours, brunch - dinner so we had to wait. I ordered a mojito that was freshly prepared. For my entree, I had the Cajun seafood pasta. That is a must try. My friend opted for a vegan option. She did not care for it. But it looked nice. I personally would love to try again. I did not get the full experience because my friend was comparing to the other times she had come, so our visit in comparison was subpar. Excellent service, food, and ambience. The owner even came over to say hello twice. I love the place.

We had several dishes all were good especially the Oxtail, Gumbo, and the chicken and waffle's. We all left happy.

We had a reservation and drove 45 minutes to learn that the restaurant is closed. Reservation from yelps.

Went there a few years ago and the atmosphere was amazing. Will go again. I will recommend this place to anyone.

Alvin runs a friendly and entertaining restaurant! The cuisine is inspired too! My husband threw a milestone bday for me with 60 + guests and to the person, they raved about the food, ambience and the staff. We have since been back often for dinner and Sunday brunches.
