This review is long overdue for our visit back in November of 2024. I was looking up Nduja recipe…read moreand reminded myself this was the place that initiated my love for Nduja sauce. American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

Sidenote: In Italy cafe's are called "bar" and you'll notice locals take their coffee standing up at the coffee bar because the price is at least double if you decide to take your coffee sitting down. At Snack Bar Anna there was no extra fee to sit which was awesome for us on tight budgets. I wonder if now 12 years later they've changed that. Well, if you're doing the touristy thing and checking out the Duomo and the Baptistry doors by Ghiberti this place is down a random site street and cheaper than the tourist trap cafe's in the main squares. The room in the back is a cozy place to rest your feet for a few minutes. Snack Bar Anna is run by a brother and sister. They were the friendliest people in Florence. I will never forget their faces which were always lit up with smiles. It made my day to see them in the mornings. They also would play Dave Matthews Band which made my heart smile. Snack Bar Anna is one of the only places in Florence where you can get a bagel which when you're in a rush to get to school with no time to make breakfast and homesick is a welcomed quick breakfast comfort food. When I think of my semester abroad, some of my most cherished memories include moments I spent here.

Le Vespe Cafe - Avocado, salmon and eggs were brilliant. They had a hint of orange or mango citrus, making for a wonderful experience.

The food was a pleasure to eat. I ordered classic egg's Benedict. I wanted my egg poached medium…read morebut I was told by an unfriendly dry as dirt Italian waitress that I could only have it runny. I then had to take a little more time to find something else. A lovely American waitress came over and helped me.(I'm not saying she's lovely because she's American, she just was really friendly) She explained that the cook makes all the poached eggs in one big pot and can't specialize one for a customer. She said they could fry it medium well and that worked for me. The other waitress offered to fry the egg or scramble it but she just wasn't friendly, and she didn't give me all the choices of how I could get the egg fried. That really helped me make my choice. The egg's Benedict came with American pork bacon and not Canadian bacon. The hollandaise sauce was deliciousness, but they give you such a small amount. They need to double it. Another reviewer mentioned how good the green hot sauce was, so I tried it. It was spot on great!! I made sure every bite had the green sauce on it. I usually only like shredded hash browns but their breakfast potatoes were perfect. They weren't hard and had a good flavor. The restaurant was clean but very small. It had a nice relaxing feel. I love to try the food of the country I'm visiting, but after traveling for two weeks it was nice to have something I eat at home. The eggs Benedict was a treat. I had the hot amaretto coffee drink and that just hit the spot and made the waiting to be seated all worth it. The had many types of milk you can put in your coffee, for example, they have soy milk, oat milk, etc. I would definitely recommend this place and come back. Oh and the less than friendly waitress served my food to me with a smile, but she never smiled again and never accepted my thank you's no matter how much I said them. Word of advice don't have a sad face if they can't provide something the way you want it if the waitress is blond and Italian. That will not go over well. You're not allowed to be quietly disappointed.

We had the avocado, salmon eggs plate and the eggs benedict. Both were perfectly prepared and exactly what you would hope for in a top-tier cafe.
