8/23/2025: Great bar! Great 80's band playing in the patio patio area. Big space. Pools tables, TVs, several bar stations, fans to keep you cool, multiple restrooms, and GREAT prices! The front "porch" area before walking into this bar is very unassuming. I didn't expect to have such a great time and thought it was going to be more basic bar-ish. I had THE BEST time at this place. I see why people go here. It is a locals place, but out of towners were very welcomed too. Great service for sure. We were very impressed. There's a hot dog cart outside, so no excuse to be hungry. They were delicious! I seriously cannot remember the last time a bar checked all my boxes. Cost, clean, fun, crowd, great tunes, TVs to check out my Astros, and food upon leaving. Walked over here while waiting for a table at Moondog. Pros: tons of outdoor seating, super cheap drinks ($4 drafts, $4 cocktails) Cons: inside is extremely loud and crowded, saw some questionable activities from those hanging around lol. Would definitely recommend sitting outside here and popping inside for a drink refill. read more

The bar backs have really bad attitudes and not to mention really bad health and hygiene. Some rando barback approached me, while I'd already been there a half hour buying drinks asked for my ID rudely without telling me who tf they were. Then after I showed my ID I was harassed by a super fat bar back that seemed in such poor health that arguing with the man would make him go into cardiac arrest. All in all terrible experience! Pick better security instead of really overweight sad people. read more

Stopped in for a few bevvies on a Sat afternoon, off season and were pleasantly pleased by the friendly staff and full bar. Some of the regulars teased us a bit upon entering, because obviously we weren't "from around har", but that just made the experience better. The day was nice so we parked under the brellies on the front porch and watched the day mosey on by. I couldn't understand that the ONLY business pic for this place was someone's hairy leg, so I added some more, including a hairy leg from our group in case that's a SugarShack Schtick. read more

The Sugar Shack is your typical small town / beach town bar from the outside with an element that's a little rough around the edges but once you meet some locals your confidence goes up as you realize it's really a friendly place. This bar is probably as big as a small bar can get. What I mean is it's got a great small bar feel with a lot to do. They have a pool table, a patio bar, live performances, karaoke nights, and even a bus to help you bar hop without needing to drive or taxi over. I've been a couple times now and the bar staff is always super friendly. This is a great place to grab a drink or five, I'll be back. read more

Great spot in a beach town. Ambiance is fantastic with inside and outside entertainment. The back patio has bands and karaoke and you can have a lot of fun. The biggest negative is if you get "Chris" as a bartender. He's not real friendly to begin with and turns into a real jerk after a few hours if you're not a part of the "local club." Since my bad experience I've talked with other proprietors of local establishments and they knew him by name. I shared my story and they all agreed it was very typical of him. If you can avoid Chris you'll have a great time. All the rest of the staff were fantastic. read more

Had a fantastic night of karaoke with family that was ruined by the complete unprofessionalism of a Bartender by the name of Chris. As a family, we all shared 1 tab and my father was treated like a drunk and cut off for routinely grabbing us all drinks as the night went on. When I approached him myself for a drink I was ignored until finally being told, we were being thrown out. My father asked what he did wrong and Chris was immediately rude and confrontational with him. Completely unaware nor considerate. Sugar shack was great but, we will not stay again if we see Chris working, unfortunately. I've heard this from other locals since then as well. read more

Sugar Shack ain't fancy, but they serve cold beer cheap and have a decent band on Saturday nights. Crowded and smoky inside, plenty of space out back. If you're looking for a no-frills drink after a long day of fishing the salt flats, or just somewhere to go after Alice Fay's closes, this is the place. read more

Man there's so much to say about the SUGARSHACK. We are in our mid 20s from Dallas. Sugar shack is the only bar in town till 2 am. So of course we are going. We get there at midnight and the scene isn't too crowded. They ID at the door. Live band out back playing oldies. Inside there's a DJ playing old hip hop songs and a mix of pop country.. they did play one cardi b song. Idk if it was because it was a Friday night but everyone in there was 35 years or older. And they were GROOVIN. It was fun watching them and everybody laughing. Drinks are cheaper than Dallas so I'll take it lol. It's all about the experience lol. read more

YUUUUUSSSSSS!!! We came in for my best friends Bachelorette party... This was an excellent choice. This is not a fancy place. It's down, dirty, and divey and I love it! There's pool tables, a jukebox, live music, a patio and tons of cheap booze and party people! It's a great place to have an even better time. Love this place so much. There's smoking indoors so be advised. They also had a cool party bus available for rides and the rad driver Billy works on tips only so make sure to take care of him!!!!! read more

Loved the sugar shack! Went there two nights in a row.. Got a cool indoor as well as semi outdoor and then outdoor area. Good cheap drinks. They had a pretty interesting act on saturday.. I forgot the guys name .. chase something or other..but, he sings some of the same songs (his fav is from true blood) like 3 times, does some semi sexy mexican jumping bean thing on a ladder, and also sets fire to his pants. (well, really he just sticks a lighter in his pants and turns it on.. but, the women went wild!) He looked pretty damn gay, sounded like he was good enough for broadway, and had more costume changes than Britney spears but, put on a nice show and even kissed a lady in the crowd. Apparently this guy is a "big deal" around Rockport. I am getting off of topic.... Nice staff, respectful patrons (no butt grabbing here!), good outdoor area, good drinks. I would def go again! P.S. Visited on a Monday night, only one other table with 5 people in the place and yet we waited 50 minutes for our food after ordering. We talking basic burger joint here not a 5 star restaurant where you might expect a long wait. Once we were done waiting we waited another 15 minutes to get the check and then had to get up and get the waitress to pay the check. Very average food, horrible service. read more

If you're out and about in Rockport/Fulton and hungry after 9pm and you've chosen the "who's open" Yelp filter, Sugar Shack pops up as one of the only option other than fast food franchises (up until 2am). If, like us, you also are a non-smoker - don't even open the door of Sugar Shack. It's not worth it. They might have some awesome food, but we couldn't get past the tobacco assault or the blue haze to find out. We were using Yelp, but their web site many link is broken, there's no menu or food images - only the teasers of being 'family friendly' and a 'restaurant', so we gave it a shot. Only thing I can say is it's next door to a really nice place (Benchwarmers), and you should make a conscious effort or make plans early enough to eat in these towns. Too late and you're stuck with pedestrian pizza and burgers - unless you want to drive to Kody's in Port Aransas. I'd give Sugar Shack NO STARS if Yelp would let me... read more

Good service and the night I was there they had a nice band.

I can't speak for the food, but as a bar I like it very much. Even on busy weekends the 2 bars allow for quick drink ordering, but be prepared to return frequently. Cocktail staff on the floor are virtually non-existent. You'll find stiff, inexpensive drink choices, and friendly staff, but prompt service is not their forte. The atmosphere is casual most of the time, but occasionally they have fun theme nights. read more
