Seven of us stopped by for lunch. Placed order for sandwiches. Patty melt came out no cheese, zero dressing along with bread not toasted. Another quest order prime rib sandwich delivered with Au Jus. I didn't think places existed in North America that still allowed smoking in public places. I tried to stay because my friends wanted to hang out here, but only lasted about five minutes. Weekend at Bernie's! Just like the movie, this place is dead, but trying to make it seem lively. Coming in here, there was loud music, flashing lights from the dance floor, and lots of bass (not the fish.) The bartender seemed to take her sweet time. You're on island time here, and this place seems to be for the locals who aren't into the country music cover band at the bar next door, Shorty's. This has all the rap and the metal music. The bartender took so much time, I gave up eventually and went without a drink before I left to go next door. The decor is mostly stuff that the bar has gotten for free from the beer and liquor distributors. The place has a strong odor. The restrooms were pretty stinky too. One of the things I love about Port Aransas is the atmosphere. It's a beach town that owns its simplicity and laid-back vibe. With that said, let me say that we have ben to Bernie's so many times we feel like they know us. They don't but it feels that way. Always friendly, always smiling and always kind. I can't speak to the food because I have never had their food, but the cold beer, great margaritas and dance floor makes this a fun place to hang our hats after a day at the beach. So if you are from Austin like us, be sure to leave that "big city" attitude where it belongs because it doesn't get you very far here. Cheers y'all. read more

We were the only diners at noon on a Monday. Should've turned around and walked out. Several locals smoking at the bar. We ordered and paid at the kitchen window. My wife ordered a chef salad. I ordered a brisket sandwich. Our friend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. The brisket and sandwich were out in minutes and were tasty. We thought the kitchen had forgotten about the salad . It arrived 20 minutes later with the wrong dressing (containing dairy, something my wife's allergic to) delivered by the surly cook who threw it on the table and left. Based on the cook's attitude, my wife was afraid to eat it. We won't return. Too many other great food options here. read more

A very low key, casual, unpretentious bar where you come to drink (probably pretty hard) & hang out. This joint is not about the decor or fussy'ing up. It's about cheap beers & well drinks at low end prices. Happy hour price increments happen a dollar or so at a time for bottle beers or stepping up to a bit better liquors. Bring your willingness to talk to total strangers and you'll be fine. Fellow patrons proved to be plenty talkative, if slightly-to-well under the influence. I ain't judging, I'll listen just the same. Barkeep lady hustles to keep patrons at the bar on all sides of the service island stocked with drinks. Don't look for a bunch of chit-chat or personal engagement from her. There are lots of other thirsty patrons waiting for her services, so she's in hit-and-run mode. Worst bartender ever. It took quite awhile for her to acknowledge us, then spent most of her time texting on her phone, then actually leaving the bar to go to the kitchen area for ten minutes even though no one was ordering food. I got her attention and asked her where the restrooms were and she rudely said I could go anywhere I wanted. I then tried to get her attention later for about 15 minutes and she acted like we were putting her out. Unless you are a local you will be treated like you are an imposition. Eventually a local sat next to us and he was served quickly. We asked him what her name was since she never introduced herself. He said her name was Amy. We have tried several times over several years to like this place but have never had a good experience. But today was the worst! We are done giving this place a chance. read more

This is quite the establishment to say the very least. I have visited Bernie's beach house, and I have never been disappointing. Every time I go, I find myself getting overly inebriated, and never knowing what the hell happened the next day. I witnessed a very disturbing scene here the other night. As I sat there a nice clean cut young Man was at the bar ordering drinks and talking to a young lady, and this rude drunk woman kept jumping into his conversation butting in and being rude. He asked her to please stop interrupting and talking to him. She was drinking with another local I believe was a ferry driver. Both drunk. She yelled across to the bartender Sister Sister! this guy has to go. The ferry guy then said it too. Then the bartender told the young man to leave. He said he was having a conversation with someone and the gal kept interrupting him. The gal behind the bar told him to leave. He asked why. She then yelled do I have to come around this bar and throw you out? This guy was 6'8 at least that she was threatening him. It was so disgusting and distasteful for those three locals to pull that stuff. You could tell the drunk gal was trying to hit on the young man and he didn't appreciate it. I can't blame him. I also saw a nice couple sitting close by and some drunk locals went over to them and started harassing him and calling him names. I have never in my life seen such crap. I am from Alaska and I have seen it all. But these two instances were shameful. If you want to have a good time don't go to Bernies. Low life place. White trash. No class at all. read more

Night life review Bernie's has always been the hot spot for night life in Port A when visiting from out of town. Depending on the season you come it could really picked where there's barely any room on the dance floor or plenty. It has a dive bar atmosphere but with a lot of room to either play pool or dance the night away. The DJ is always amazing they play old school 2000s music that makes the whole bar sing along too or run to the dance floor. There is 4 bars within the establishment it should be fairly easy to get a drink all the bartenders are attentive and fair. The prices are very reasonable for beer and liquor. The bouncers do there job if someone is goofing off too much they will warn you. If there is a fight port A cops stay close by so highly recommend don't even try. read more

Bernie's is apparently the best bar/club on the island, which sounds great until you get here. Make sure to load the flux capacitor up in the Delorean, because you will be going back in time when you walk in the door here. Loads of glow in the dark paint and black lights, a stuffed Bernie in the corner and a crazy local guy in tight pants doing hula hoop on a raised portion of the dance floor. WTF!?!? The crowd is pretty much guys in ball caps, flip flops, shorts and those crazy ass fishing shirts with mesh panels in the back. The girls, or should I say ladies, are definitely of the cougar variety. If you're mid 20s and have any idea how to dress, and if you're interested in a possible future with an island lady, this might just be your calling. Strong drinks and popular dancey tunes kept people moving on the floor. If you are in Port A and want to go out at night, this is the place to be.
