If you ever find yourself in western Indiana take a float down the river from sugar valley! I was really impressed! The front has all these broken canoes that are decoratively places around the parking lot. You go up to the front pay and sign waivers, everyone is very friendly and makes sure that you are all set to go. Then you travel to the area where you can pick out a life vest and then you hop on a bus to your drop off point. The driver gives great directions on how to look for the mile marker points which are beautiful bridges! Then you get in, on the river and float! (That's what my group picked) you can also canoe as well. Floating was so nice and peaceful and the inter-tubes are pretty legit quality! The river route is awesome, seems like it's pretty well maintained, the people are nice and it's all around very enjoyable and reasonably priced!

This is a summer speciality for me and my friends. We enjoy going to Turkey Run State Park and then heading the Sugar Valley Creek to cool off. The prices are pretty reasonable. On Tuesday if you like tubing you can go for just $5. The trips on the canoes are about 2 hours unless you sit on the many shores you pass. How fast you go down the creek is contingent on the level of water in the creek. Sometimes the creek is too low and sometimes the creek is too high. The bus driver is very kind and lets you helpful hints about the river. The entire staff at Sugar Valley are very attentive. At the end of the canoe trip you have to bring your canoe up a steep hill. If you have trouble walking this may be difficult. Lastly they make you put down a deposit at the time of the rental it's $20 cash and if you use card they will just hold it until you get back from your trip. It's a very beautiful trip down the creek. Some parts get a little deep but if you can swim you should be OK.

The bus driver used fowl language in front of my scouts, and was trying to antagonize the adults in my BSA Troop. This was nightmare situation. Very disappointed in the rude behavior from the unprofessional employee. They should require a breathalyzer for this driver before every work shift. This situation happened on Monday June 22, and the manager has been too busy to respond to our multiple requests for help. 4 days later and we are waiting....

Pros: - Their rentals are cheaper than the four surrounding businesses that offer the same (but significantly better) services (kayak/canoe rental, drop off to/pick up from River drop points) Cons: - Their business location is rundown - Their alcohol policy is not enforced - Not a family-friendly atmosphere - Their staff is incompetent and inexplicably rude - Their business has no protocol for violent patrons - Their kayaks are not well preserved and often have cracks or holes - Many of their floatation devices smell like cat spray and do not function properly - Pricing on merchandise is steep for low quality - Business phone is often unreachable, not because it is busy but because it gives a disconnected message - Email response time is more than 48 hours and often no response - Review option not available on social media, and if one is left in comments review is deleted and reviewer is blocked - First aid is not available to injured patrons - Misleading information provided concerning water levels (check the DNR, anything under 2.75 feet will lead to an unpleasant kayaking/canoeing experience) My subjective experience: For five years, my extended family and myself have taken annual kayaking trips with Sugar Valley, often driving 2 hours from where we live. While all of the above information is true, we did not experience the negative consequences of those cons, at once, until this year. Without going into all of the details, our party, which ranged from 13 years old to 50 and consisting of nine people, went on our annual trip as usual. My 13-year-old nephew struggled to stay afloat for six miles as his kayak had a hole in it, the end result being frustration for everyone and him losing his glasses- unable to see for the remainder of the trip. On the bus ride back to the business, a girl in her early twenties, who was intoxicated, provoked and proceeded to physically assault my 50-year-old sober sister, without any instigation from my sister. After punching my sister repeatedly in the face, resulting in facial contusions, the staff mocked my sister, laughed at her, offered no medical assistance or aid, did not call the police to document the incident, did not make any attempt to detain the younger girl from further attacking my sister or until authorities arrived. Update: My sister ended up going to the hospital as a result of this attack, and had a concussion. At the very least, it is a business's responsibility to ensure the safety of their patrons while on their property. That starts with enforcing their alcohol and drug policies, and in the event things go awry such as they did in this instance, following a safety protocol. My family and friends will never return to this place. I certainly will have nothing positive to say to anyone on social media or in kayaking associations moving forward. Turkey Run's beautiful scenery is largely thanks to the DNR and it can be enjoyed without the help of this business.

    Cabin #4 sleeps 9 people

After reading so many negative reviews, I was really nervous about booking a cabin and canoe trip for my six person group. However, I was pleasantly surprised! We stayed in Cabin #4, the cabin that sleeps 9, and it was better than I was expecting for $45. There were three bunk beds, each with a twin bed on top and a full bed on bottom. The air conditioning and fans worked, so it remained a nice temperature the entire time. My only complaints about the cabin were the birds that had taken up residence in the wall. We were awoken by the flapping feathers and angry screaming of fighting birds. The fire pit was pretty nice, and there was more than enough seating for everyone in our group. You definitely need to bring your own firewood, as the Sugar Valley store only has charcoal and the places around charge twice as much as I would have payed at home. The canoeing, which got the most bad reviews, was actually incredibly relaxing and stress free. We showed up thirty minutes before 2pm with no reservations, and were on the road to canoeing by the time it was 2. The bus was just a white-painted school bus, but it did the job. The driver was definitely a lot more knowledgeable than the girl working at the reservation building, so I would suggest asking your driver any questions you have about canoeing and the route. The canoes were not infested with spiders, which made me happy, and they easily fit three people. The scenery was stunning, and the 3 mile was perfect for a short trip with people that aren't super athletic. You did have to walk your canoe up a sandy hill at the end, but the guys loading them into the truck helped with no problem. If you're looking for luxury, this is not your place. But for a cheap and stress-free outdoor experience, Sugar Valley is perfect.

Do not use this company. Pick a different one, any other place is better than this one. We had a multi-family trip for 19. Their bus driver tortured both the children and adults on this trip, please read below .

Horrible! They fail to mention that at the end you are responsible to carrying a huge and heavy canoe up stairs by yourself or they refuse to refund your deposit. I had to struggle with my 9 year old (who could've been seriously injured if that canoe fell on the stairs) while a group of about 6 young men goofed off and carried canoes of those who refused. Then they sat around laughing at us saying I needed the exercise and upset my 9 year old son who saw them taking his picture. Disgusting!

Clements has been around a long time, and now I bring my kids to enjoy the cool water & summer sun. I've only ever done the 5 mile tubing trips, but they also offer longer kayaking and canoe trips plus camping. After booking online (they do have same day walk up available but are sometimes completely booked), you just show up a half hour before launch time, get life jackets, and board a bus that takes you upstream to the launch site. From there, you have all day (the 5 mile tubing trip typically takes around 4 hours) to float, swim, wade, splash & relax your way back to the rental office site. Tube rental is $25pp. Helpful hints: pack food & drinks...that's part of the fun; the cooler tube is worth it...it's got a flat bottom large enough to hold a couple small coolers (we fit a small cooler, a backpack cooler & a bag of snacks); pack sunscreen and bug spray so you're prepared for a full day of sunshine and nature; consider taking bungee cords or rope to help keep your tubes tethered so your group can stay together; also, don't wear slides or flip flops...you'll likely need to walk through the water a bit at the low points of the creek

The staff was not helpful at all. First when we get there I paid our $15.00 for Pedal Boat ride, after I paid I was told I needed my ID and sign a wavier, mind you I didn't bring my ID, so we had to drive 30 minutes away to get my ID. So when we got back I spoke with another customer service representative and they told me I DID NOT NEED MY ID. I don't know the name of the older white guy that said that I didn't need my ID, when the lady representative said right after him, we only need 1 ID for the ride and both of us to sign a wavier. Ok so be it, we're here for fun, we've been through enough hoops, let us get on the ride sheesh. We get on and they told us to pedal backwards to get going, so we're off, mind you we only got 30 minutes, when I tell you once we got in the middle of the lake and started to steer the boat either right or left, the boat steering was all out of service. We was trying to go straight and turn either left or right but the boat was going to the right inevitably and has us going in circles upon circles. It got to a point where customers that was on land taking videos of us, and shouted out "you guys are struggling". Of course we were without any help from staff. I called customer service at their establishment and spoke with THE MANAGER NAMED JULIE, forgive me if it's misspelled, however when I spoke to her and let her know our experience today, she completely discredited what I had to say as a first timer customer. I let her know that I paid for my ride and had to travel back to get my ID that wasn't needed, let her know our ride experience, let her know the customer service we experienced, and in the end of our 4 minute call on the company phone number which I hope was recorded, I asked her for a phone number to someone that was higher up then her in the company itself and JULIE HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME THE PERSON ABOVE HER IN KICKAPOO ADVENTURES IS GOD I NEED TO SPEAK TO!!! This is unacceptable and I really hope our conversation was recorded because this was the worst experience ever, especially talking to the manager that's supposed to help and make the customer happy. All we wanted Julie was to know our discomforts within our experience, not even money back or anything, we didn't want anything back we just wanted to let her know our experience and she completely denied any wrongdoing just based off years of service and "no complaints". I'm not saying all this to make people not go however but please be aware of the staff and manager because they don't care. I hope this doesn't get deleted because people need to know experiences there. They only have 20 reviews within 20 years, come on guys the proof is in the pudding. I wish I could've spoke to Tom because apparently his name is on the Web to contact. With Julie saying I need to speak to God, please let me speak to Tom because Julie I pray and talk to MY GOD everyday thank you. My experience talking to Julie was unacceptable, what caught her off guard and made her defensive was the fact that I told her she discredited our experience!! How is that far. Not once did we get an IM SORRY!! We did not get no apology at all. Julie we expressed how we felt as customers and you don't want to hear negative aspects about experiences. We don't know how to end this unlike the staff that threw the buoy out to us and tried to help at the end with getting us wet, mind you one of the staff said "why do that you got them wet", after we docked we left no words no nothing towards staff. Tom I hope this reaches you or anyone else higher up in the Kickapoo Adventures Administration, period point blank. Thank you, I wish it was under better circumstances.

We visited Morgan's yesterday for the second time this summer. It's a great meeting spot for friends that live in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Our first visit was on a Thursday and the second was on a Sunday. There was a big difference in the amount of people when going during the week versus the weekend. I would highly suggest a weekday visit if you would prefer less people. After a brief safety talk, you grab a life vest, paddle, and boat and you are off! We did kayaking on both of our visits, but saw a lot of people out on canoes and rafts. It is about a 7 mile trip and both times it took us about 3 hours doing a relaxing trip down the river with minimal paddling and a lot of floating. We packed a picnic lunch and pulled our kayaks out on a shady spot and ate lunch. This is not a technically different kayaking route. There are a few sections that are rocky, have some tiny rapids, or tree roots that you need to navigate, but all in all, it is a beginner level trip perfect for the novice and fun for all. The equipment is good, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The price is also good for a budget activity ~$30 per person! Let's talk about COVID-19 precautions: Morgan's takes this seriously! They are by reservation only and have designated checkin times. For our weekend checkin when it was busy, a man greeted us when walked up and directed us to an empty table to fill out our group's waiver. Once done, we took to a table with one staff member to checkin. All of this was outside. During the week, this was done in the building, but we were the only group. There are social distance markers on the ground, limit to 3 people per the changing room/restroom, social distance on the bus to bring you back, and all staff wore masks. Thank you for keeping us safe!
