I was a bit disappointed the first morning when I saw a continental breakfast laid out. It looked good though with fantastic granola, fruit, smoothies, and juice. But when I sat down, a full, made-to-order breakfast was also offered. The only mistake I made was in not taking a picture of the huge waffle covered with sliced strawberries and whipped cream. I think the morning manager Allie was responsible for the menu. But this isn't all. We chatted with the other managers and got suggestions about where to eat dinner and what to do. And there was more to do right at the inn. A bar is open every night if there are customers. A fellow living in the neighborhood stopped at the bar one night, and we got even more information from him. There's plenty of parking. Dozens of restaurants and shops are within a block or two, so if you are too tired to drive somewhere, such as Stowe, there are a number of good choices for dinner with a short walk. The room and the parlor/lobby make you feel it's the 19th century. A jigsaw puzzle was on the coffee table and being slowly put together by guests. Kids were playing with the many toys and games there too. And all the other guests seemed to appreciate the Old Stagecoach Inn as much as we did, giving it a community feel. The only cautions are there is no elevator in part of the inn and there was no TV in our large room. However, since we felt we were in a 19th century, Victorian house, a TV would have been out of place. They said they may add a TV, but like us, they were worried that it would look odd with all the antiques. And yes the main building dates to 1820 and a stagecoach inn, but it was later turned into a mansion and even late extra rooms were added. When we toured the Shelburne Museum, a docent at the Vermont inn building said he had helped convert the house to an inn years ago and remembered the beautiful woodwork in some of the rooms.

Every other small business involved in our trip, four hotels, Airbnbs, our Turo car rental, and the airlines, provided full refunds or credits. The Old Stagecoach Inn was the only one that refused to offer any flexibility, citing that severe weather is a "foreseeable" risk and that I should have purchased trip insurance. I understand small businesses rely on reservations, but the response from management felt unnecessarilyj rigid and dismissive, especially compared to the empathy shown by other small, family owned Vermont inns. Given how the situation was handled, I would not stay here or recommend it to others. P.S. We don't think extreme weather is "foreseeable" since we had been checking the weather up to a week prior.

I thought it was a little ridiculous that the concierge wanted to charge us more for a room with a refrigerator - this is the first time I've stayed anywhere and did not have a fridge in the room. The next day we were planning on hiking Mount Ellen and wanted to take the ski lift up a bit, to save some time. The price was $25 a person, with no offered discount for being guests. The area is beautiful, but I think everyone should get on the same page before quoting room rates.

Bed is very comfy. Small table w chairs for dining. Two comfy swivel chairs to relax. Very clean. 20%discount at the Butlers Pantry. Parking in back of house. Locker for skis. Cons: very loud room as they allow the patrons for the restaurant to use the main entrance so people line up outside your door early and talk very loud. They have two other restaurant entrances and the owners really should make the patrons use that entrance vs the main entrance. So plan on it being loud from 0730 AM to after 1200pm. Yelp has a 20% discount if you check in on the app for 2 nights or more. The coupon is outdated and the owners never responded to my inquiry. The coupon should be taken down as I didn't see how it could be redeemed anyway since you must pay in full 14 days prior to your stay and the hotel is self check in. Overall, a lovely stay minus the noisy room.

I think we got lucky finding the apartment available because it appears to be fully booked for the foreseeable future. The parking is not immediately outside each room so you park temporarily to unload and then move your car to the actual parking area. It really wasn't bad, even in the rain, and it's a very short walk. We brought our dog so just know, you have to go through multiple doors to get outside. The walls were kind of thin so we, and our vocal dog, heard the neighbors next to us come and go, as well as the rooms under the apartment. I can't say I'd want to be in the rooms under the apartment because I'm sure us walking around was loud. The bar looked swanky and fun but we had our dog and they strictly state you cannot leave your dog alone in your room. The sauna was out of commission or maybe it was the hot tub, either way we had no plans to use either, although they looked luxurious outside in the elements. I grabbed coffee one morning as they were closing breakfast, and it was incredibly watery. I can only hope there was an error making that days. My husband and I had to dump it out. The breakfast spread looked incredible, and picked over, so I brought is each a tiny piece of quiche, which was super good. Really wish I had gone earlier to try the fresh baked bread with all the sweet and savory condiments for it. I'd consider staying again in one of the A frames. These old buildings lose so much heat that is impossible to keep them at a comfortable temperature. While I agree that the staff were professional and friendly, there are not enough of them. At 8PM, I could not get an extra pillow (required for sleeping on sofa bed) and blanket delivered because there was only 1 staff member (or perhaps they did not want to go out into the cold). They also double booked the room and another customer ended up with a legitimate key to my traveling companions room (good thing they were there). Food was average and the eating area was not kept very clean. Of all the designs, these with outside entrances are the worst, especially on the bottom floor. Everyone going up and down the stairs sounds like elephants above your room and every door slam (and it always slams) an earthquake. This particular Residence Inn is in desperate need of a renovation. It is very old and run down. As a loyal Marriott customer, I stay in a lot of them, but will never stay in this one again. Between the four of us, we had the Filet Mignon, Iberico pork tenderloin, day boat scallops, and the lemongrass-infused striped bass. Every single dish was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Everything felt fresh, creative, and thoughtfully prepared without being overdone. The dining room is elegant but still feels warm and comfortable. Dinner started with an anchovy amuse-bouche that had a nice savory taste. They even offered a free glass of champagne for my birthday. The grilled octopus was nice and light, and the cauliflower was okay with the dish. It was a smaller potion, but left room for the remaining courses. The tagliatelle was cooked well and the tomatoes and mushrooms added nicely to the dish. This was a nice sized portion, and definitely filling. The chocolate raspberry tart was more on the chocolatey side. Maybe my least favorite course from those I had, but nonetheless still good. The check came with petit four which was a nice touch. My waiter, Sergiu, was delightful and made me feel welcome the entire time. I really enjoyed my dinner here and would look to return.
