Stayed at the Center Village condos in Sugarbush Village, which are the 1st set of condos to the…read moreright of the Lincoln Peak base lodge (if you're looking up at the mountain). We reserved a small studio style room, which is actually a one bedroom w/ 1 bed and a pullout couch in the living room area. Check in (and check out) is at Sugarbush Inn, which is located further down the access road- (you pass this before getting to the Sugarbush base lodge, hang a right and the Center Village condos are right there). Check-in went smoothly...they provide a welcome packet, maps, free shuttle schedule, and actual keys (rather than the more modern credit card style swipe cards that are now so common). For our checkout, we wanted to ski the day we were leaving so we called the desk and asked if we can leave the keys in the room as we vacate to allow for housekeeping and sign our paperwork when we leave for the day on our way down the mountain...very flexible, and allowed us to enjoy a great partial day of skiing before heading home! Would have been avoided though (and saved me a phone call), if we were automatically checked out and if the keys were electronic, we wouldn't have to leave them. Great location- we could walk to the base lodge in the morning (and not worry about parking and such) and back to the condo for lunch during the day. Parking was very easy- you can park right in front of the entrance to the condo building. Having a kitchen is a huge bonus- you can bring food and have it in the comfort of "home", rather than going out to restaurants or eating in the base lodge amongst the herds of people. There are not too many large markets nearby through- Shaws is in Waterbury 20-30 min away. You're pretty much confined to smaller grocery stores/vt country stores and convenience stores in the area so bring what you can with you. The condo has all dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, etc. so that was really convenient. Each unit has a ski locker in a little room that is the connector from the condos to the path that leads to the base lodge- very convenient place to put all the ski gear. For convenience, Sugarbush Village has a couple of on-site dining options- a pizza place, a deli, a pub, a little French restaurant (Chez Henri)...we didn't go to any of these places on this visit, but nice to know they were there. I've been to Chez Henri in the past and it's has great food w/ a cozy atmosphere. VERY dated- think wood paneling, 80's style appliances and electronics and your typical worn ski lodge decor. Definitely more functional, rather than fancy. Sugarbush Village itself is also very dated- it is such a great location that I would think that this may also be due for an overhaul, like the Clay Brook condos & new base lodge were. Skimped on the toiletries- very cheap stuff in the bathroom and not enough to cover our stay. Easily fixed by dropping by either Clay Brook or Sugarbush Inn to ask for additional shampoo/conditioners... the fancier kinds too :) And one weird complaint- Static everywhere...carpet, blankets, mattress pads on the bed, pillows, everywhere! The dry air probably contributed to all the static as well. All in all, exactly what I expected...Sugarbush itself is one of my favorite mountains to ski (so it ranks way higher than the lodging). I wanted the convenience factor during a holiday week so I paid a premium for it and I knew I was renting one of the older and less expensive options at Sugarbush, so my expectations were a little lower (and met by Center Village)!

Yet, the whole reason to write a review is to give others a recommendation or a warning BEFORE they visit. There are things the innkeepers cannot control- the rough surroundings, the noise of traffic and barking dogs, etc. (we had it all) But, once you cross the threshold, that's on the innkeeper. The potential to make Maplecroft a little oasis in a run down area of Barre VT is there. But you can't host on potential. Here is why it doesn't hit the mark: the building is just so neglected and our room was filthy. The housekeeper needs a solid talking to. The filth in our room is not just that someone forgot to vacuum. It's stained carpets and soiled area rugs and caked on dirt and pubic hair and filth on chair rails in the bathroom area. The shower: hair on the walls and a horrible smell. On and on. The bed was comfortable but I was so preoccupied with the filth that I kept wondering when the last time was that someone had washed the blankets. They were faded and had an off smell. The towels were stained and dingy. Peeling paint, open walls with rot in the hallway, thick dust covered ceiling fan, dust covered almost everything. Ouf. All this for 200$/night. We were just so disappointed. This was an anniversary get away and we couldn't wait to get away... from the Elia Corti room at Maplecroft. We have stayed in many many MANY B&Bs over the years on remote islands to bustling tourist zones. We expect old inns to have doors that aren't plumb and funky floor plans. All part of the fun. But the caked on dirt and general filth was a big turn off. Our clothing carried that smell all the way to home. On the plus side: all of this is fixable with a basic carpet shampooer and bucket of hot soapy water and scrub brushes. Replace the towels and wash the windows. Low cost but high impact. Then get some repair work going on the crumbling walls that are cracked open and exposing rot. Your guests shouldn't be exposed to these things. Lots of neglected little things make for one BIG thing- a negative experience. We will not be returning.

Jude and I saw a deer one morning from the breakfast room. The old red barn juxtaposed with a solar panel nearby is pure Vermont. While the farm is off the main highway a mile or two, it's an easy drive to local villages and less than an hour to Montpelier. All rooms are up a narrow center staircase with a full bath in the hall. They have a spa bath on the first floor that is pictured here in Photos. A large tiled accessible shower, jetted tub, tall windows which can be opened and ample towels and supplies. Of course, breakfast was a fresh two course meal with Vermont coffee in a room with a view of the patio and gardens.

I enjoyed it so much that I booked the entire B & B suite for a weekend to come back with the family. The suite is three bedrooms and very affordable for a weekend get-a-way. The back wing of this old farmhouse is half cozy living room/kitchen and half modernized greenhouse. Downstairs in the updated section is a wonderful bathroom with large jacuzzi tub and walk in shower with three (yes, 3) shower heads - though the switching valve only let's you run two at a time. Plus the radiant floor tiles makes me want to just lie in the sun along with Phoenix the resident friendly cat. Upstairs are three cozy bedrooms with wonderful Vermont landscape views and lot's of books for browsing. Outside there are pastures and trails, a big old barn, sheep and a llama. When we were there in the fall the llama was just wandering around the yard as it had been fighting with the ram, so Jay just let it out to get a little breathing room. So I woke up in the morning and watched the llama on patrol around the house. Jay and Jude, like so many B & B owners (a special breed) are friendly and entertaining. They are anxious to be helpful and quick to recommend good restaurants, places to hike, and other things to do. And the breakfasts, ahh, the breakfasts... You have to stay at least two nights just so that you can get more of their good food. fresh fruit cup, maple smoked bacon, maple walnut scones, asparagus soufflé, baked apples with maple syrup, blueberry muffins, light and fluffy waffles ... I went to bed each night excited to wake up and smell whatever was cooking. None of the rooms have a private bath, but renting the whole space makes that happen. No cellular phone service (well sometimes one bar) but good wifi. Close to hiking, X country skiing, and snowmobile trails. Close to Montpelier. A couple of really nice restaurants in the area: Claire's, Positive Pie, Rainbow Sweets.

We were in Jericho for a business meeting and did not feel like making the long drive at night, back to New Hampshire. I searched for a place to stay for the night and that is how I found the Sinclair Inn Bed & Breakfast. The gorgeous home is full of charm and history and all the lovely small details of a turn of the century home. Kyle and Holly were thoughtful and willing to accommodate our dietary needs. Our breakfast was incredible. Kyle made sweet potato waffles and blueberry compote. He also make yogurt parfait with fresh fruit. Since I am a vegetarian, Kyle cooked homemade veggie sausage patties. Fresh hot and delicious coffee, orange juice and cranberry juice completed this perfect breakfast. When we are in the Jericho area again, this will be our go to place to stay. The room was comfortable and immaculate and had everything we needed. Down the hall from our room, they have a small room that guests can use. They have a full size fridge with a freezer. It was stocked with bottled water and various soda/seltzer water. We had leftover food from lunch and it was so convenient to have a place to put our food for later. This room also has a microwave and K-cup coffee pods and coffee maker. I'm so grateful that this historic and amazing home is being cared for so lovingly by Holly and Kyle. Homes like this are so special and must be preserved. There is a nice parking lot right outside the inn. Best place we have stayed in years.
