I ordered one of their cakes to be shipped to me in Memphis. Seamless ordering experience - their website clearly states the shipping charges depending on what day you order (they ship Monday-Thursday overnight, so there will be an extra charge if you want it Saturday or Monday). It was about $30 to ship to me. It arrived in dry ice and the cake was perfect upon arrival. I've had their strawberry cake at local delis that partner with Sugaree's. But we really wanted to try their Sampler Cake. It's 8 large slices of each of the cakes that they make: strawberry, caramel, rainbow, coconut, Italian cream, red velvet, chocolate, and pound cake. Adorable little shop. Although I didn't try them, their cakes look phenomenal. I did try one of their dingdong cupcakes and that thing was so good I sat in my truck and woofed it down like a five-year-old. As a matter of fact, I brought my boyfriend back the next day and got another one plus tried the coconut, strawberry and chocolate ones. So so so good. Between the two of us, those babies didn't have a chance! Super moist and absolutely delightful frosting flavors. I will be getting a six pack of those ding dong cupcakes next trip. So I actually haven't been to their location in Mississippi, but I had the chance to try their cake at the 13th Annual Big Apple BBQ Block Party in NYC last weekend. Strawberry Cake is my favorite cake, and all but impossible to find in most places in the country, except for a few spots in the South and Texas. So when I came across their booth serving strawberry cake, I had to have it, and it was ridiculously good. Fresh strawberries in the cake batter and frosting and wasn't dry at all, nor was it too sweet - was basically perfect. I'm considering ordering a cake online for delivery, even at a hefty price of $55 + overnight shipping in dry ice, it's that good. Who knows, maybe I'll just wait for a special occasion, but I'm definitely doing it one day. If you ever have the chance to try it, please do so, it'll make you very happy! read more

While showing off New Albany's cute little downtown area to a friend visiting from out of town, we decided to stop in Sugaree's to see if we could satisfy our sweet teeth. We ended up buying five different pieces of cake and laughing about the Grateful Dead-inspired cookies. Did not expect to see those in rural Mississippi, but there are Dead Heads everywhere! My friend offered to pay for everything and when the cashier rung her up, she thought the cashier had made a mistake. No mistake, 5 pieces of cake for pretty cheap! We added on two slices of cheesecake just to even everything out... I also love that they carry other local goods like Neon Pig's raw smash burgers, or fancy cheeses. Red Velvet Cake - Sugaree's / Goldbelly I was a little disappointed when i unwrapped the cake and saw no icing on the outside - Who in the world does not ice the whole red velvet cake? I'm a Southern Girl. After spending so much money to get this cake $89 looks like it would have been iced all over. The cake was packaged great, and arrived one day later than expected thanks to Fedex. The cake was moist on the inside but a little dry on the outer side, the taste was very good, and overall a good cake. Just wished they would have disclosed the icing on the picture Goldbelly. The icing was why i chose this company I thought it would be the original red velvet icing but was not. Next time I think i will try another company. read more

It cracks me up that no matter what eatery I go to here in the 901, a server always offers Sugaree's cake to me as a delicacy shipped in from a small town in Mississippi. I grew up on Sugaree's red velvet and honestly, I didn't know cake tasted like anything other than the quality you get in their items. Around Memphis, everyone gushes about the strawberry and caramel cakes. If you get a chance, stop in. They usually have free samples on the table in front. Best Cake I've Ever Tasted. I was able to buy a strawberry, caramel, and red velvet slice at the Big Apple BBQ. I planned on splitting them all with my Mother but once I had my first bite, I could not be stopped. Strawberry Cake - The cake is an artificial pink but you can taste real strawberries. The cake was the freshest/moistest I've ever had. The frosting was perfect, it wasn't super sweet and the little on the cake was all that was needed. My personal fave. Unfortunately, none for Mom... Caramel Cake - my least favorite of all 3 but still delicious. The caramel frosting is delicious but intensely caramel. The cake was super moist. This was my Mom's fave. Red Velvet - I've had a million slices of red velvet but now I know what it's supposed to taste like. Just like the other two, super moist! I have pondered several months over how to write a review on such a fantastic little hot spot in New ALbany, MS, where life is much slower than in the city where I'm from, but here goes: Pound Cake: Delicious, buttery, moist-never dry, and just AH-mazing! Coconut, Caramel, Red Velvet, Chocolate, Rainbow Cake: Simply put--the BEST cake you have ever placed on your palette! The frosting is homemade and perfect. The cake--even though you buy it frozen, once thawed--it is the moistest cake you have ever eaten! Tarts: Melt in your mouth-Strawberry or Blackberry--I'll take 2 of each! Pecan Tassies: My 3rd favorite item in the shop. These are like little pecan pie bites, but the crust is what makes these little guys my #3 thing to buy when I am in town. It's like a shortbread cookie--buttery, and sooooo divine. Cheesecakes: Different flavors. Creamy, Creamy, Creamy! They sell these individual or in an 8x8 pan for you to take home. These are great for a small social gathering. Chess Pie: This is my FAVORITE item sold in the shop. It's not always available in the single slice, but when I am there and they have it, I buy it. I love chess pie and this recipe is spot on! Buttery, creamy, sugary, and delicious. I don't care for the crust, but it's homemade and many people LOVE it. I just eat all the filling! Wedding cookies: By far-hands down the BEST cookie I've ever eaten. If you can manage to get these little guys home and place them in the freezer overnight and then eat them, you will experience MOUTHGASM like you've never experienced it before! This is the #2 item to buy for me & #1 of there is no individual chess pie to buy. Sugarees has many more items within their small shop, located right in the heart of the square. Everything I have sampled, either purchased or the free samples they offered throughout the day, have all been homemade, using the finest ingredients and simply delicious. The service in-shop is Southern Charm and the ladies do a great job at suggesting something for you if you don't know what to buy if you are planning a social. They also have a discounted freezer with items that didn't make the cut to get out to sell at full price, but don't let the word "discount" fool you! Inside that freezer lies discounted items that taste almost exactly the same as the originals! If you are ever in the area, I would encourage you to stop in this little bakery. Awesome caramel cake! Great Customer Service. I ordered 2 cakes and when they arrived one of them was not what I ordered. I emailed Sugaree's to let them know about the mishap and they replied most promptly and sent the cake I did order without even being asked. Everyone makes mistakes and little mess ups happen from time to time, it's how you handle those mess ups that make you who you are. And Sugaree's is tops in my book for taking care of me and my order. I will absolutely order from them for any special occasion because it is SO worth it. I was impressed how they were packed on dry ice and individually wrapped so they would not run/mix together if thawed let me tell you I don't like coconut but that Coconut cake had me Shookth!!!! the Red Velvet was moist and just sinful and last but not lease the Strawberry was Divine. The Pound cake and the chocolate cake was good too but the three mentioned above were OUTSTANDING!!! I will be reordering as gifts in the future.
