I Was really hoping for a great BBQ experience, but I should have know this was going down a dead end track when the guy in front of me asked for ribs and they said they didn't have any and didn't know when they would be ready. This pulled pork sandwich had no smoke flavor at all the meat was grey no char or smoke ring evident. The sauce on the table was very runny and light in color they offer 3 options, but they taste virtually the same. The sandwich plate comes with 2 sides, but if you want slaw on the sandwich that's one side. This was the first time I had ever been told this at any BBQ joint across the south. The beans were good, but the slaw tastes like food service delivery. Now to the upside we had someone bring a whole strawberry cake to an event and it was delicious. We got a slice of caramel and it was good. Two other customers bought whole cakes while we were there. So I would skip the BBQ and go with dessert here. Also they have a really cool model train running around a course at ceiling height. It's a neat place they just need some lessons in low and slow smoking. read more

Never have had any issues here. Menu is relatively small so food comes out quickly! Their huge parking lot is right across from a distribution center which meant there were always plenty of folks coming in and out for some grub. Prices are extremely reasonable, the BBQ is tasty and the homemade fries are good too! read more

Westside BBQ & Cakes was a super cute place! We really enjoyed the atmosphere! The food was ok! The best thing here was probably the BBQ sandwich or the cheeseburger. The workers were SO friendly and kind! It came out in a good amount of time and the prices were reasonable! There was a little train that circled the place as you ate and children's coloring pages around the restaurant hung up. It is very family friendly! The restrooms were clean as well! read more

Great place for lunch . Great service from the staff .The jumbo with fries was awesome. I like how who ever owns this place has a real love for model trains as one rides around the whole place and there are others that look like they used to run them but don't anymore but it really cool to see something like this , reminds me of the 80s and 90s when people actually had hobbies that didn't evolve a phone in your hand. Great food, good prices, comfortable family environment! I stopped here with my family on the way through, and it was a great experience. We almost went to Cracker Barrel, but the extra mile or so drive from the interstate was worth it. The service was quick, and my kids loved the trains running around the ceiling. We tried the chocolate pie and the pineapple cake, and both were fantastic. read more

Order food there over the phone. Didn't have to wait to long to get order. The staff there were very polite and the food as always was great. Recently was gifted a Westside cake from a friend who's daughter sells them as part of a fundraiser and I now regret the past 5 years not purchasing them from her!! Wow, I'm a New Albany transplant and visited this place twice thinking maybe I went on a bad night given all the recommendations, but I've come to the conclusion that New Albanyites are just starved for any restaurants (thanks for nothing dry county voters) or are voting for the desserts. The BBQ was near inedible. Coincidence that I NEVER see the smoker going? Do they really slow smoke the ribs, pulled pork, etc.? The texture is all wrong, kind of "slimy" like it has been oven cooked. Absolutely no smoke ring, and little flavor outside of the sauce, which was decent. I LOVE good BBQ and if it was worth going to it sure would save me driving to Tupelo or Memphis. Desserts are great....wish they put the time into the BBQ but with people going back time and again I guess they don't think they need to. Had some friends from Bama go against my warning and they thought the same thing. read more

Restaurant has been here forever and featured in National publications. Used to have the best BBQ around, but it's gone way downhill in recent years. Rib sauce is awesome, but pulled meat is slimy and ribs flavorless. Still have the best cakes around. If you're a BBQ fan and you have to eat here, get the ribs and make sure you stick to the rib sauce - or just get one of the other sandwiches - burger, chicken, philly, etc. They are usually pretty well done and a much better experience. read more

Westside BBQ has been in New Albany for many years. Many years ago, the food was good. I hadn't frequented in years but recently moved back. I went one night after work trying to satisfy my BBQ craving. That craving wasn't satisfied. Westside still has the same atmosphere... picnic tables, trains, relaxed, and laid back. I was glad to see that hadn't change. The BBQ has though. I ordered a BBQ sandwich, sans slaw, with rib sauce. My sandwich was swimming in sauce. I returned to the counter and asked if I could get another sandwich with no sauce. They did oblige, but didn't seem too thrilled about it. The sandwich was completely greasy. The BBQ was almost slimy with grease. There was no smoky taste to the BBQ. It tasted nothing like BBQ, good or bad. The caramel cake is still good. Moist cake, rich sugary icing. I was glad to see that hadn't changed. Maybe I'll try Westside again in a few more years. Maybe the new BBQ joint on Hwy 15 will inspire them to go back to serving quality BBQ. read more

This was one of my favorite BBQ joints as a kid because they have a different vinegar based sauce. It's been a long time since I've been here and maybe just had my hopes up too high. The 1/2 chicken wasn't fresh and tasted like a carryover, and the potato salad wasn't that fresh either. We visited Westside BBQ on July 31 of 2008. I think I may have been more interested in the interior decorations with model trains running near the ceiling than the food itself. I know we were fully satisfied without dessert. Listen I travel all over the country. I am a KCBS certified BBQ judge as hobby. I BBQ at home i am critical on what I'd serve as BBQ. I know what BBQ is supposed to be. This is not of any definition of the name BBQ the pulled pork tasted like it came out of a can. The ribs were flavorless and seems to be coated in a watered down ketchup. Sauces were bland. It's... slimy, and there's just no taste to it. The BBQ sauce is unrecognizable as BBQ sauce. It's watery, and more like something you might put on a lunchroom taco. We've been here 3 times now, (with about a year between the visits), and each time we have been so disappointed. Westside BBQ has been in New Albany for a long time. Last September I finally had a chance to get take-out over labor day weekend and was sadly disappointed. The ribs and pork just weren't that good. The place is very clean and staff friendly. You can eat in or take out. They have beautiful and delicious home made pies and cakes. read more

I'm a fan of the BBQ sandwich which was my first serving of pork in many years. It was served with slaw on top and rib sauce... two thumbs up! On another occasion, I ordered the chicken dinner, it was terrible. However, I MUST say that all of the cakes I've tasted from Westside BBQ (chocolate, banana, and caramel) have been soft, moist, and warm as if fresh out of the oven. Westside used to be the best BBQ around, but over the last few years they've gone downhill. They still by far have the best desserts in town and you can call to order a whole cake or pie to be picked up instead of waiting in line...that is if you can get them to answer the phone. I've lived in New Albany most of my life. I've visited several BBQ joints and can say West Side has always remained as good as any. It's not so much a "smokey" taste like most, but definitely worth a trip if you're nearby. The desserts could have a review of their own as they are some of the best pies and cakes around. read more
