Shannon, the receptionist, sent me email saying that their new Comcast phone service was not working properly, and that my phone was the problem because she could not get through, although she had left me voicemail after 5PM. I gave her my work number and got another voicemail after 5 PM. She said I could try the Ventura office on the day that it was open. Straight to voicemail again. I was using the same phone and same carrier that I had before their office move. I was sick of being blamed for their failure to take a call or return a call and I needed a new crown, so I went to another dentist.

Well this girl does. Dentists have always made me nervous but this office made that all change, I got a cleaning from Dr Martinez and she was more than thorough with what she was about to do, during the cleaning she continuously asking if I was okay and explained what to expect especially when I was going to feel some discomfort, she did not sugar coat anything and her honesty I appreciated the most. Also I needed a root canal and had to get referred, the doctor available wasn't going to be until August 8th but seeing as I was in pain Dr Martinez and her amazing staff helped me get in that day, I couldn't believe it and am forever grateful. Her and her entire staff from reception to assistants were very professional, compassionate welcoming, and importantly knowledgeable. I wasn't just a customer to them that day, they cared about my pain and advocated for me to get the treatment I needed. I feel it's important to share mine. I waited over an hour past my appointment time before being seen, and unfortunately things only went downhill from there. Months after my visit, I received a surprise notice saying I owed a lot of money, with no itemized bill attached. I then spent months going back and forth between my insurance and the office. My insurance was incredibly helpful and patient, and they told me the office did not file the claim accurately, which created ongoing issues. The office staff, on the other hand, felt scattered and disorganized every time I called. They also billed me for several X‑rays, including a panoramic one they couldn't provide proof of ever taking. Because the information I was getting from the office kept changing, I ended up keeping pages of notes with time stamps just to track everything. I simply didn't trust Riviera Smiles to keep accurate records. After reading other reviews, it seems like my experience wasn't an isolated one. As someone who is extremely sensitive and terrified of needles, this was nothing short of amazing. She numbed me flawlessly and then replaced my old crown, created a temporary one, and scheduled me to return for the permanent crown in three weeks. If you think about it, aside from inheriting bad teeth, most dental issues are avoidable by simply brushing 2-3x a day and flossing daily. I know all of this because Dr. Churchman not only treats me, he educates me. I have had a cavity filled by him and he did a super job of not letting me see the needle. His staff is thorough and simply top notch, especially Tammy. She is pleasant, courteous and very professional. I highly recommend Dr. Churchman for all of your dental maintenance and needs. He is honest, reasonable and takes pride in his work.
