This has happened multiple times and it honestly feels like they are just trying to keep my money. I have had to advocate for myself throughout this entire billing process. They attempted to charge me hidden fees that I later found out I did not even owe. They also refused to submit my bill to my health insurance, even after I explained that a portion of the cost could likely be covered under a specific code. Instead, I was left with a $500 out of pocket bill that could have potentially been reduced to around $50 if properly submitted. When I checked in, they collected both my dental and health insurance information but never actually billed my health insurance like they said they would. I was later told this is something they tell customers but do not follow through on. On top of that, they failed to charge me correctly upfront and then asked my significant other to pay a large portion of the bill while I was under anesthesia, which was completely inappropriate and due to their own mistake. There was also a lack of transparency from the beginning. I had to question a $400 charge just to understand what I was being asked to pay, while others were apparently informed right away, according to my significant other who was in the lobby. Communication has been extremely poor. I have been trying to get in touch with them since February with no success. No matter the day or time I call, no one is available to help, which is especially frustrating while working full time during their business hours. They recently told me they would follow up with me regarding the issue, and it has now been over a week with no response. Overall, the billing practices are unprofessional, disorganized, and not transparent. I would not recommend this place. On a positive note, the only good part of my experience was a dental assistant who mentioned she loves country music. She was very kind and genuinely helpful.

I couldn't decide what scared me more, receiving anesthesia for the first time, or actually getting the teeth pulled! Anyways, suffice to say, this experience was a really big deal for me. Dr. Schafer was very sympathetic to my anxiety about the procedure and made sure that her staff did everything they could to make me comfortable, which I really appreciated. The actual procedure only took 30 minutes for me, and it seemed like it was over in an instant with the IV sedation. I was then sent on my way, and returned a week later to make sure my gums were healing properly. Looking back, I can't believe I made such a big deal about this, it was so easy here! Thanks for a quick, pleasant, and easy procedure, Dr. Schafer! Would definitely recommend getting your wisdom teeth removed here.

The dental assistants were nice the day of the surgery. That day I left surgery, I peeked into my mouth after the bleeding had stopped and noticed that there was not any stitches on the lower sockets. ( I was a dental assistant/ oral surgery assistant for 4years) I called to see why there wasn't sutures placed and the assistant was not kind to me on the phone. They were treating me like I was some kind of crazy person, and that I was over reacting. Anyway, a couple days later I got a wicked infection on the lowers. I got scheduled to be seen, but upon the phone call to the office they again, were treating me as if I was over reacting. And informed me they would see me " To put my mind at ease". At that appointment it was discovered I did indeed have an infection. ( don't understand how, I followed all the rules, used my medicated mouth wash as directed. ) anyway, I was put on antibiotics for 10 days. I took the full course of antibiotics, 4 days later the pain came back, I had ended up at my primary care doctor and brought it up to her. She informed me that she did still think the infection was there based on how I was feeling, and the looks. I was instructed to go back and see my oral surgeon, they were scrutinizing me on the phone before I could even explain the issue or they scheduled me. The doctor again treated me as if I was dumb, and made me feel like I was a criminal trying to get drugs when all I needed was her to check for infection. The assistants are rude, treat you as if you are a burden: and are only nice to you when they are getting $ from you.

They charged me over 500 dollars to get a mouth guard (since I grind at night which is true) that I lost shortly after getting it and tried to get them to make me a replacement immediately after I lost it at a work trip and they said it wouldn't fit and that I would need a whole new set of imprints which is incorrect. I would be skeptical of some of their recommendations. I also had a crown and it did fit correctly and they tried to fit it again and I continued to have pain with my jaw and overall the dentist didn't even come look at personally she just sent me to a specialist and said I "might" need a root canal. Now I might have a unique situation but it doesn't appear that way and this appears to be standard practice so I'll be finding a new dentist. The staff is generally friendly and the office is up to code but, at this point I don't think the dentist has done a competent job and I would not recommend them to any friends or family. Nor do they really seem like they care about the pain my teeth and jaw have been.

The cleaning and exams were quick but thorough. They really take the time to listen and understand my needs. Also, I tried the LANAP laser therapy for my gums, which felt gentler than I expected. No bleeding or pain. I'm not sure why any of my dentists didn't recommend laser for my gums for the past decade! If you're nervous about going to the dentist, they're very reassuring and professional here. Glad I found a place that gets it! The issue with my first visit was when the hygienist asked if I wanted a fluoride treatment. So, not knowing it'd be EXTRA, because she didn't tell me, I was like... "OK". I didn't know until after my appointment was over that she was trying to upsell me into extra services without disclosure or letting me know how much. At the time, I thought she was confirming that I was ok with it (because some people have concerns with too much fluoride). I don't work in the dental industry. I don't know what I don't know. I also do not recall any other dentist ever asking me this question, so also thought it was something they confirmed and/or provided at this newer office. When I go to the counter to "check out" , she says I owe $40.00 which was surprising as this was a covered visit for a standard cleaning. That's when I realize what that hygienist pulled. I could ask if you want mushrooms & onions with your steak and not tell you it was 40 extra dollars, too. Would they like that?? I sure didn't think a few minutes it took for a "fluoride treatment" would be $40, either. Don't try to sell things to people as if it's part of the service by not saying how much it will cost, period. I had a filling redone as I've had several times in the past. All of my fillings are from when I was a young child, so they deteriorate and I am used to needing to get them redone. I have never experienced having to pay hundreds of dollars for the procedure as I've always had dental insurance. They told me this huge price, and so I asked why would I need to pay you $400-$500 for new fillings? My insurance should cover 80%, and they said back to me NO JOKE -- they are charging me FULL PRICE "up-front" and will refund me "later" after my insurance has paid their part. I do NOT consent to paying money that I do not owe! And why should I, as the patient, be out any money for weeks and/or months before the insurance was applied? That's not on me, that's the insurance that takes long! Like, what is this? I have never at any insurance whether dental, medical, eye, tell me that I pay full price for everything out-of-pocket up-front and then I have to wait for a REFUND after the insurance processes? What in the world is this nonsense. I the patient, your dang customer, why would I hand over my dollars for you to hang on to INTEREST-FREE (are they making interest on MY money? -- while we wait for insurance to process, if so, that would be theft as that is my money and therefore my interest). Is this LEGAL? It's definitely NOT ethical & unheard of. Then, when the company I worked for changed hands, so did the insurance provider. Wynkoop Dentistry caught wind of it (somehow) prior to a cleaning appointment and texted me to say I better go upload new info to some random link platform or else I'm gonna pay full price. Again with this always trying/threatening to make me pay full price?? I had it at that point. I'm at work and I have stuff to do and if I don't do their clerical work for their office then my punishment is to pay them money for my "free" cleaning? You can absolutely forget it! They pay staff by the hour to do that work and if it's more convenient for ME to give you new info when I come for my appointment, that's what we're doing. Learn some humility - this office gets paid because I choose to go there and be their patient/customer. They don't get to make demands or threats when I'm the reason they're making an income. Then they have the audacity to say they're sending me these ridiculous texts so that my appointment goes "smooth" and so that I don't have to "worry". I had NO worry!!! None, zero, zilch. I know with 100% certainty of my insurance coverage. The [previously nonexistent] worry came AFTER they sent me these text threats! It would have been "smooth" otherwise if I came to my appointment & provide the updated insurance then, like other offices do! I liked it is a very modern office, but they're passing on costs to patients it seems to me. I'm sure the dentists don't blink at fancy meals, live in multi-bedroom/bathroom homes, and probably have second vacation homes while I have a 1BR apt, so no they don't need "my" money that bad. There were some other positives I had prior them trying to basically extort money from me, but forget it at this point, those positives are washed away since I won't return. This is all female dentistry, too, so something I'd want to support and it's really freaking sad this is how these ladies operate. There is not a shortage of dentists and I can find a new one in 5 minutes. Sloan's Lake is by the far best dental practice I've ever dealt with. First and foremost, they're clinically excellent. Both Dr. Pollack and Dr. Rojas have a passion for their craft and it shows in the uniformly high quality of the care they deliver. I've never had anything less than full success with any of the procedures they've performed. They're quite simply outstanding. Additionally, Dr. Pollack, Dr. Rojas, and the staff are just fantastic people. I don't know if I could ever call going to the dentist "fun" but I had as good a time as I possibly could have on each of my visits. Another way to say it would be that while it's not as fun as a Broncos game but for a dental office, it rocks. This last point may be the most important: The dentists here have a holistic approach. They're less interested in treating symptoms -- and let's face it, that's what most dentists and doctors do -- than in treating the underlying causes of ailments or better yet heading the ailments off all together. I've learned that what goes on with our teeth, jaws, and all the other stuff up there has a huge impact on our overall health. By focusing on my holistic health, Sloan Lake has vastly improved not only dental health but my health overall. Their approach is different and I'm elated with the results.
