I have been going to Sully's house for many years. I like it because it is a friendly, local establishment and close to where I play volleyball. I have gotten used to the sometimes mediocre food and slow service but we had a particularly bad experience last week. It was Monday night after our volleyball league. It is generally pretty busy on Monday nights after the games (I don't think we are the only league who plays in the area) are over so we've learned to be patience. This Monday however, the bartender was literally the only person taking orders. He had a full bar and a full restaurant. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our food and drink orders to be taken. I ordered the chicken fingers and fries. Don't get me wrong, their fries are awesome. Crispy and yummy. The chicken fingers aren't half bad. My friends had wings- also good. The problem was the bill. Nothing irritates me more then when a menu says one price and the restaurant rather than updating the menu just charges more. So my $9 chicken fingers were $10 and I was charged (without notice) an extra $1 for the fries instead of tots. It was not listed on the menu nor did my server mention it. I'm not usually one to complain about $2 (I recognize I am fortunate not to have to worry about it) but from a customer service standpoint it wasn't very appealing. I get tired of bad customer service. If you know that Monday's are busy, have an extra server on. Your slacking on service will cost you customers. There are so many bars and restaurants to pick from in this city, I wouldn't want to give people a reason to go elsewhere. read more

Sully's has nailed down the atmosphere of the Chicago neighborhood bar. The warmth of the decor, the friendliness of the stuff and the quality of the food is great. Even the patrons are sweet and welcoming. I love going there for a drink or a meal. They also have huge TV tuned to important sports events. Plus, bonus point, the prices are reasonable. Sully's: respite from the "other" Weed Street establishments. Because, I rarely find a reason to frequent that entire block. This is close enough, but certainly far enough away... Brand spankin' new. Robust beer selection. Plenty of space to sprawl (bar area, seating, lounge, upstairs). Close to public transit (North red line, Halsted bus, North bus) Surprisingly decent food options (a chicken arugula salad, that's good? in a bar?) Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Relatively cheap. It's a bit off the main drag...but I'd definitely recommend it for lunch, dinner, boozin', etc. Near the corner of Dayton/Blackhawk. (Close to the new REI store on Halsted). A positive edition. The girls and I were pretty tired of going to the same places for lunch and after work cocktails so we were excited to see something new opening up in the neighborhood. It took me a few weeks to actually get around to checking the place out but some friends and I stopped in for a quick bite on Friday night and I am happy to report that I think Sully's will be a good addition to the 'hood. It was PM on Friday night and the place wasn't crowded at all. Not saying it was dead but it wasn't packed which is more than fine by me. Actually when we first walked in we really didn't know if we should seat ourselves or wait for a host so in the end we ended up just heading to the back and grabbing a table. We were given menus, a beer list and water right away. Love that. The menu consisted of pastas, pizza, salads, panini's and burgers. Didn't bother to look at the beer list but it was quite extensive. The vino list also had a nice selection so we ordered a bottle to help us ease into the weekend. They were out of our first choice of wine but our server suggested a different bottle that she was said was similar so we went with the threat that if we didn't like it we would beat her over the head with it. Kidding! I ordered a panini that consisted of prosciutto,. cheese and veggies and it came with a small salad. It was a good choice. The bread was nice and crispy, cheese lightly oozing and the prosciutto added a little bit of saltiness to the whole sandwich. Of course the veggies on the sandwich and the salad made me feel better about the amount of calories I was about to consume with the bottle of wine we just ordered. :) One of my friends ordered the turkey burger. I usually stay away from those on a menu especially in places where it just seems like a random addition to the menu. My friend though actually said it was probably one of the best turkey burgers she has had. Note to self...order the turkey burger on your next trip to Sully's. I tasted another friend's tater tots...umm, not so good. They tasted slightly undercooked and greasy. Greasy is good but undercooked and greasy...no. I'm not a sports fan in the slightest. OK, maybe in the slightest: I've been a fair-weather Bulls fan with the best of them since His Airness held "court" in the annals of the history of Chicago. But I do love to travel. What's that have to do with anything about a sports bar, you ask? Well, I'll tell you. I come to Sully's exactly once a month for a travel meetup hosted by a guy named Paul Kaufmann (http://www.meetup.com/travel-14/, 5-stars to the Meetup & him too). Paul arranged with Sully's for us to take over their large back room every third Tuesday evening of the month. Each month, one of the meetup members presents one of his or her adventures on the big screen: PowerPoints with stories from everywhere--from Burma to Cuba, Ukraine to Colombia (¡Era yo!). There always seems to be a problem with the projector, where the colors aren't true (yes, they lie!). Sometimes the noise from the main room makes it hard to hear. When it's cold out, inconsiderate folk come in the side door and freeze our buns. But still, my hat goes off to Sully's for giving us the space and good service (all 30 - 60 of us showing up & leaving at about the same time must not be easy for the server or the cooks). I have loved this place since I first went 10 years ago. The BBQ and Hot wings, in my opinion, are Chicago's finest, and they go great with their turkey burgers and wraps. When Sully's is running, it's one of the greatest sports-viewing venues in Chicago. Looking for a low key place to grab a drink and a bite without spending a pretty penny, we stopped into Sully's. Just a short walk from the Blackhawk stop on the 8/Halsted, Sully's is located between REI and the new Whole Foods. Given the size of the crowd I'm going to bet that location is not working in Sully's favor. When we walked up the patio was moderately full, but the inside was empty save for 2 people at the bar at 9:30 on a Saturday. Sully's has a nice beer selection at decent prices, but in the end I played it thrifty and went with a $2 PBR tallboy. Food, on the other hand, seems mostly overpriced. I went with the Cheesy Sully Sticks for $6.50 and Michael G the nachos for $7. The sticks were good, and the portion generous, but nothing out of this world. My favorite part was the tomato dipping sauce, which had a slight zing to it. The sticks themselves were cheesy and Boboli-esque. The plate of nachos was big, but the cheese was lukewarm-cold! Had the cheese been hot the nachos would've actually been quite excellent. Like I said most other items on the menu seem to err on the pricey side. A cheese pizza is $10 and a Margherita $15 - when did basil get so expensive?! I was told that pizzas are the same size of the crust they cut up for the Sully Sticks. Considering I wasn't starving and ate 90% of the sticks on my own I can't seeing that being: (1) a deal and (2) enough for two people despite what the menu says. The bar itself is really nice. The patio along the one side is pretty big and there's a decent-sized back room that looks like it can be sectioned off for private parties. The bathrooms were some of the nices bar bathrooms I've seen in a while, complete with those high powered hand dryers that look like they'll blow the skin off your hands. Bottom line: If I was in the area and looking for something low key I'd pop in again, definitely on a day when they have some specials. read more

My favorite place. I moved next door and met Andy and the General Manager, Geo. They have provided the utmost customer service and care for me and my friends every time we go. The food never fails (fried pickles, wings, and quesadillas are my fav!), and the beer selection. The patio and rooftop are great for the summer, especially when there is live music. Tons of parking and quiet area since it's away from Halsted and Clybourne. 10/10 recommend for a night of at a bar with great service, delicious bar food favorites, beer, good music and every game you can imagine on TV! read more

Sully's is the perfect place to grab a beer after a game and just hang out and they have both patio and rooftop seating if the weather is nice. I noticed some teams there that the bar sponsors so it made me like them that much more! They have a decent selection of brews and the prices aren't too horrible. I was there on a week night so it wasn't very crowded but definitely perfect if you want to hang out with friends. The waiter was apparently stoned, or so it seemed, which added it to the experience. We were lucky enough to find a great New Year's Eve special at Sully's this year and had an absolute blast! The drinks were strong and the provided buffet food was pretty tasty, considering the $65 price for the whole evening! The bar had a great set up and vibe and the staff were incredibly nice. The location is also bomb, we were able to walk to the train station and get home in no time! I've been going to Sully's for, what... 12 years? Ever since they opened, however long ago that was. This was one of our two go-to bars for after (or during, shh) work. And while I don't work over there anymore, I still find reasons to stop by. I like the management. There were some personnel issues back when they were first getting started, but they took care of those and brought in good people who seem to care about making sure people are taken care of. It's possible my review is influenced by all the great times I had there with my friends. But hey, what else matters? read more

Seems the wing recipe has changed (gone cheaper on sauce and wing type) and drink specials havent been as great. Service is great with papi but thats probably the best part of the experience. We will often just go get a drink or two and sit near the bar, the staff is super friendly always. We also have gotten food to go and they were very nice then as well. I like Sully's; I always have a good time here. They always pour the best drinks and the food is so good. This time I checked in on a Monday, mostly beers were on special, I ordered a beer not on special a Blue Moon...so good. The waitress was super awesome, I didn't remember her name but she's a 27 year old blonde. She talked me into ordering the $1 tacos for the Monday special. Never had them so I ordered one, one turned into two, but my husband wouldn't let me order 3 (lol)- highly recommend them, they're SO GOOD! Needless to say, I'll be back! read more

My fiancé and his friends love coming here every Sunday during football season which means I am also a frequent attendee. The usual bartender Issac is awesome and a cool dude. Justin is another bartender we've been seeing lately and he has been 100% adequate. The bar-mate next to me asked for a hot cocoa after my hot toddy looked so good. Justin said they don't have hot cocoa so he made a cocoa-martini. I was somewhat involved in the order and showed interest in her drink he made up. Without me asking, Justin ended up giving me a bit of the leftovers from the shaker he used to make her drink. Sully's has an excellent draft beer selection as well as an extensive whiskey selection. They also have many beer bottles and cans on display and are not lacking in the other liquor availabilities. They have the ability to make hot toddy's which can be hard to find in a local sports bar. The meatball sandwich, steak quesadilla and homemade potato chips are all amazing from personal experience. My fiancé's good friend always seems to order the Italian beef and is always satisfied. My fiancé has been happy with the BLT. My critical reviews: the pizza has a nice texture but not enough flavor. I need to add hot sauce to make it tasty. Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes were not served with the pizza. The wings smell amazing but if you look close, you may find hairs still attached to the wing. I thought that maybe this was a fluke since I have heard others enjoying them but I believe those people may have been drunk and/or hungry enough to not notice because many months after my hairy wing experience, a plate of wings were delivered to the bar-mate next to me. The smell made me turn my head with my mouth watering but I could see the hairs coming through the sauce. All in all I come here time and time again. I really appreciate Sully's House for being so accommodating during these crazy times. I was able to host 10-15 people for my 25th birthday with their open bar wristband package deal. Sully's House is the perfect spot to celebrate your special occasion! We rented out the rooftop patio for my birthday and did the wristband/open bar deal which is $50+tax/person for 3 hours of all you can drink. We were a little late and they were kind enough to extend our drink package an extra hour! The patio has couches, TVs and an aux chord so you can play your own music. A hidden gem off the beaten path. This place is legit. Their drink selection is pretty decent and have $4 draft goose island, and their signature sully sticks (essentially cheesy bread with marinara and ranch) are half off! Is this a destination dinner venue? Probably not, but I'm not gonna knock it until I come back and eat a full meal here. We stumbled into Sully's House on a Saturday night while looking for a parking spot...I'm glad we did! It is a cool little bar with a nice atmosphere and super friendly service. This fun little place has the regular bar area and a large back section as well. Lots of TV's for sports and not a bad place to sit in the house. We sat at the bar itself, the bartender was quick with a drink (and a light of my smoke... Kidding... Channeling Billy Joel!) and makes a mean "Old Fashion!" As boring, bland and average as vanilla ice cream, cheese pizza and missionary sex. Though I suppose sometimes you find yourself in a mood for such things. I work a block away and have watched the removal, renovation and rehab of this place for almost the past two years. I must say, considering what this building looked like a few years ago, they did a fine job turning the dilapidated shell of a structure into a respectable bar and grill. But that's where my praise ends as there really isn't much to give out. It is "respectable", a C student. The food is alright, the ambiance passable, but all things considered it's not much more than an upscale Applebees. There must be a formula restaurateurs use that equates a correlation between dim lighting and expensive food. This is diner food dressed up. The entire neighborhood and block in general is going through drastic change and you can really tell Sully's is taking steps to clean the place up. The sidewalk is always shoveled and the broken bottles of booze and used condoms are quickly swept away. That's admirable and I offer my kudos to the managers for taking pride in their business and the corner it sits on. But one can't ignore the larger issue at hand. However, I'm not going to make any statement or take any stance on the vast demographic shift in the area. This is not my place on Yelp and anything I could say would only come off as self-righteous. But as a concerned citizen, someone invested in the neighborhood, I would make the case that Sully's is a prime example of urban renewal gone wrong and how the forced migration of the disadvantaged is done essentially to erect prosaic and banal bar and grills. But as merely a Yelp reviewer I find offense only in the fact that they spent so long and put so much effort into making such a stunningly mediocre restaurant. I was on my way to Weeds a few Fridays ago with some thirsty coworkers looking for a little liquor fun. We parked right in front of this new place - Sully's. What is this? A Gator bar? Must be new. . . Although we were still Weeds-bound, this nice lady pops out of Sully's and tells us to come on in - there's free beer, and an appetizer deal?!Um, OK! She explained that Sully's just opened and her excitement sold me on a seat for an hour. . .or three. . . I would come back here to eat non-appetizers (they weren't bad, there just isn't a a huge selection) and to hang - it's not divey-Weeds but it's mellow enough and the staff is friendly. I think Sully's is EXACTLY the type of place this section of the city needs - sometimes Uncle Julio's can be a little too obnoxious and Weeds too food-less. read more

Great place to kick-back and have a few beers with friends. Plenty of TVs to watch some games, though I'd recommend staying away if the Gators are playing (unless, of course, you are a Gator fan). We came one night after a Florida game earlier in the day, and all of the Miller Lite was still colored orange (though I swear it was pink). Nast. One-star demerit for that. Gatorness aside, it's a perfectly chill joint, with a great beer selection (Delirium Tremens, love you). And college-like beer specials sans 18 year-olds. Holler $2 beers. I'm a Gator fan who relocated to Chicago for school and work opportunities. I come as often as possible for Gator games (especially football). If you're Gator-adverse though you should probably stay away when we are playing. We own the joint on game days. There are a ton of TVs here, the food is also pretty decent and the upstairs patio (with even more TVs) is outstanding and super comfortable! They also have outside seating on the street and they wheel TVs out there for even more viewing and imbibing. Amazing place. Try the new lamb wrap, chef Javiar does an amazing job blending the lamb and tzatziki sauce to create culinary experience. Also, you need to try the tacos Javiar uses special seasoning to make it a very special treat. Most importantly the best part of Sullys is the staff. The beer selection is decent and the appetizers we had were tasty though the selection was limited. It will take me some time to return however because the music was TERRIBLE. Terrible. I think it was the bartender's iPod but I would have guessed it was a XM radio station that possible pay bars to play the songs because there is no way any of that drivel would get exposure. Sully's has a rooftop?? Damn, I'll have to try this spot in the summer. I came here for the Texans v Bears game this past Sunday. It may have been the major loss that put a sour taste in my mouth or maybe it was the service! I think the latter, our waitress was short and not so sweet, very straight to the point. She looked really annoyed that she had to take our order... not so nice. The food left much to be desired as well, I got the turkey blt club and it was cold! The meat was cold and the cheese, the only thing toasted was the bread. Why would you only toast the bread???? It was basically a turkey sandwich with bacon. I ate it cause I was starving but it wasn't something I'd re-order. Also the homemade chips it came with were soggy and not crispy and had no flavor to it. Not really my cup of tea. The only thing that was good were the Sully sticks that our table ordered, delicious and the marinara sauce that came with it was good! The waitress positioned we could get anything but we were actually delivered a cheap rail shot under the assumption we couldn't distinguish Jameson from crap. Oh well. It was free. But the bathrooms are clean. Urinals with privacy walls. The stalls have doors and locks. There is a TV in the rest room in case you can't stand to be away from entertainment and an air dry for your hands. Mens room details: One handy-capable stall and two urinals. No paper towels. My drinking buddy was also a Commando fan (what guy isn't?) so he got the reference. The bartender was a woman... so she didn't. If you like Arnold movies, then you did too. Regarding the establishment in general, it is definitely much better during the warm season. It has a great rooftop and sidewalk seating areas. It is certainly the best option in that particular area. The beer selection is pretty good. The fries are really good. I don't find myself in this area too often, but it's worth a visit once the weather gets nicer. P.S. The reference is from Commando, when Matrix (Arnold's character) drops Sully off a cliff.
