It's amazing how Southport Betty's pivots from a Friday afternoon or Wednesday night local neighborhood hangout to a Saturday college bar with a line out the door. Great vibes, love the patio, love the TVs on the inside, glad there are three bars from which to get drinks as it gets busy in there. It does get a bit loud as well given the low ceilings. Only thing is when I've been when it's busy, the food service starts to slow down pretty badly and you really have to put in your food early for the kitchen to eventually get the food out in a good timeline. Will definitely return, but prefer it for the low-key patio vibe relative to the Saturday college bar vibe. read more

TL; DR: Lots of TVs and nice outside area Stopped by on a Sunday around 1:00pm during a basketball game and had no trouble finding a table. Came here to watch football and honestly the vibes were great!! We snagged a table, which made it super easy to hang, watch the game, and not feel cramped. Drinks were the standout. Genuinely some of the best cocktails I've had in a sports bar setting. Bonus points because you can get them served in fun carnival-style lemonade cups, which just adds to the experience!! I didn't eat, but my friend ordered the burger and said it was fine and solid. You order food from a QR code at the table, then grab your drinks from the bar. It's quick service and super efficient. Bunch of us came for a Saturday football game. You go up to bar to order and bartenders were great! Very attentive and SUPER friendly! Drinks reasonable price. Order food through the QR code at the table - came out quick and tasted great. Ambiance is fun! Sports bar with plenty of TVs. Only downside- they don't play any sound besides when it's the Bears!! A couple sandwiches and apps was around 100$ and it wasn't full service. Their signature Sandwich was okay but the hummus platter was weird. They gave like a strange half loaf of bread that was barely cut so we had to rip it apart and dip it like barbarians. Made a huge mess. Haven't seen any detailed reviews yet, so here it is: In my opinion, this spot needs to declare its intentions bc I think it is another Broken Barrel disguised as an elevated sports bar. My biggest issue is the concept itself. Very similar vibe to Broken Barrel, Reveler, Common Wealth, yet there aren't any servers for the tables. When you walk in there isn't a hostess and you sit wherever you want. There is a QR menu to order food to your table, but you have to open a separate tab and walk to the bar for drinks. The food tab automatically adds a 20% tip that my dinner partner accidentally paid despite having no service aside from the food being dropped at your table. When we were done eating I had to stand in a small line at the bar to close my drink tab. If you want water you have to go get it yourself from the Gatorade jug like you're at Cody's pub. The food itself was fine for bar food, but nothing beyond "okay". I'd say this place will appeal to the young Southport families for a bit while it is new, until everyone figures out it is just another neighborhood pub without anything novel. I expect that it will become just another place for the 25-35 year olds while trying to be more. I was standing at the bar waiting for a server for a drink when a (assuming) manager walked past me and chatted with the 5-6 guys wearing "Southport Betty's" hats at the bar seating while pouring (assuming) free shots for them. Not the best first impression, and as Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue would say, not a good business decision to give away liquor. Lastly, the beer menu is boring. So many great Chicago breweries and they choose to have the basic tap menu that every other bar in the neighborhood has. Just another bar. read more

The food was pretty good - it was still brunch so we had the full English breakfast. Would have added another star based only on the food, but as a whole experience, the lack of servers made for a very distracting and confusing meal. You scan a QR code for the menu, select your meal, pay and then your order is sent to the kitchen. There's no one to ask questions about the menu. There's no one to ask where your food is (it was a rather quiet day so can't see a reason for such a long delay - a byproduct of the online ordering?). And the most frustrating part was our food was served at wildly different times - the 1st of our party of 4was finished eating by the time the 4th's meal was dropped off (can't justify using the word "served"... and forget about trying to get salt or more napkins...no one checked on us to see if we were okay-no one seemed to care about us. The fish tacos were not good and the soft taco shells tasted like they had been microwaved. The brats was served with several slices made in the brats - odd! The food was ordered from table/QR code and so there was no one to tell!!! Also drink orders had to be made at the bar so we ended up with 2 tabs. And finally, their high chairs don't fit any of the outdoor seating and only some of the indoor seating. The staff acted as if they could have cared less. Not sure whose idea was to make people order their food on their phone and then have to go to bar for any drinks (including water).. but it doesn't make for a good dining experience. Obviously this 'concept' of not having wait service is a ploy to save money, but those savings aren't reflected in their prices.
