This was, quite simply, bad. Went to Agave and Rye after an…read moreevent in Grandview; about 8 pm on a Tuesday. We were looking for a few drinks and simple snacks, and this seemed to be a great option for it. The place was fairly empty, so we were a little surprised that we were led not to a table in the front (cooler, nicely lit) room, but to a booth in the other back half of the restaurant, past an arcade section-- a booth with sticky seats, a seemingly broken tv (with a perpetual "ARE YOU STILL WATCHING?" message on it, though nothing was playing-- just turn it off?), and seemingly no access to the AC (even our server commented on how this part of the restaurant was too hot compared to others). We ordered the margaritas that were half off due to a Tuesday special (though mine was still $9 when the bill came-- what I ordered certainly would not have been worth $18!). We also ordered a three dip and chip dish to share. The dips we chose were guacamole, queso, and a pineapple pico de gallo. We were kind of shocked when the dips came out: the queso was half melted and half not (shreds of unmelted cheese covered the top half of the bowl) and the salsa was seemingly water with a few chunks of pineapple and tomato floating at the top. My whole table was shocked by the look of the salsa and that it had even left the kitchen. When the server came back over, we asked her if the salsa was supposed to look like that (when you dipped your chip in, nothing but a wet chip came out, as if dipping in a bowl of water). She noted: "Not really, it was probably from the bottom of the pan." (My thought: if you know the salsa is not supposed to look like that and it's the drugs of a pan, please don't serve it.) She asked if we wanted her to try to get us fresh salsa, and she returned with a very different looking, better bowl-- but it was odd we had to ask. The chips were not flavorful and seemed stale-- they were also huge and had to be broken up to dip them. Food, service, ambiance-- I found it all the be extremely lacking. With the wealth of good similar restaurants in Columbus, I'd never return here.

I was told there's an arcade. (But I didn't see it). I was welcomed immediately upon entering, and the young man had on the coolest shirt. I had a few laughs, it made a Klondike reference, he wore the shirt but had no clue, you had to experience it to get the pun. ( they sell them). I chose to sit at the bar. Then there I met the barmaid..... who was so bubbly and pretty and no I didn't say that because her shirt said that.(LOL) She showed me the special of the day both food and drink. I tried the spicy tequila shot made by the house with jalapeños...meh.. it wasn't hot enough for me but it was still ok. BUT the vegan taco that I had was soooo good. Who knew theres VEGAN TACOS! YES PKEASE!!! There was cauliflower instead of chicken inside but you could not tell the difference. IT was amazing. I had my friend take a bite and I got a 2 thumbs up(lol. Light crispy and so salty. Just delish. Then the guac was good and the chipotle salsa was nice, smoky, tasteful. Then for my main, I got the tostada. It's this double decker dish, which was also great. A bit hard to eat, but I enjoyed it. Also the side potatoes were also great. Flavor packed. I wish they a bit less rigid on menu requests, like I would've loved to have the enchilada without chicken. Cheese enchilada seems like a reasonable change. I had a bite of the desserts also and they were fine. The tres leches was kind of ok. Service was good. Place is nicely done also. I works definitely come back if in the area again.

The menu doesn't list any soft drinks anywhere, I asked the waiter if they serve Coke or Pepsi products, it's Coke. I wasn't informed/told/disclosed/declared/made public/carrier pigeon/announced/communicated in any way that each time I was asking for a "refill" that a glass full of ice with a little soda was being separately charged. At any restaurant that is charging by the beverage ordered for SOFT DRINKS they give you a can or a bottle, just some educational info for the owner/managers... For any patrons that can't see behind the magic curtains on how they fill the glass full of soda, it's by having the bar fill it. On to the food... I would come back for the food despite the attitude and atmosphere of people not happy to work there. I ordered the pork chop and it was great and I would order it again. The salsa was amazing with a very great smoky flavor. I ordered the pastel de elote for dessert and it was amazing. The food and atmosphere are worth coming back to. I'm sure the waiter who was ignoring my table and delaying service like paying for the meal or asking if "another soda" would be something wanted, while she was spending excessive time chatting to the staff and investing her time on the phone doesn't describe all waiters, or the manager who couldn't be bothered with helping a waiter to get me a glass of soda and simply ignore my request is an off night experience. Other than those good review canceling services or non-services it was "good".

The restaurant sits on a fairly industrial feeling corner. While parking is available across a fairly busy street, good parking can likely be found on the street next to the restaurant. The ambiance as others have indicated is nice with flowing plants throughout. Food is presented beautifully and service is fast and attentive. Still, the portion sizes for the pricing feels a little small and I left a business dinner still quite hungry. On the whole I would go back again, but would be primarily when having vegetarian friends visit us in the city.
