Again I would expect this even more of the food and experience wasn't so overpriced. Salsas and guacamole were incredibly bland. Tacos also seemed to be lacking in any flavor (except the yoda). Drinks were also on the sugary side. Most of the thought in the restaurant seems to have gone to the decor, not the food. The best thing about this place is the decor. It's truly an experience for the eyes when dining here, absolutely stunning and very unique. The tacos are all over the top ridiculous with the ingredients and it's hit or miss. The last time we were here the tortilla chips were greasy and hard to eat. Their margaritas are really good but overall this place gets a lot of hype that I don't understand. I got a DoorDash order from Agave & Rye recently. Agave & Rye is a Mexican style restaurant. It is a chain restaurant. This review is based on this location. I ordered the Taco Flight which is three tacos of your choice. These tacos are not full-sized but rather mini tacos. I ordered The Gangsta, The Plain Jane, and The Swipe Right. I also ordered the French Fry Duo. The tacos were very good. They are deep fried crispy tacos with soft shell taco wrapped over the deep fried taco. They were filled really well. Packed in fact. The tacos were very tasty and there are a variety of tacos to choose from. For example, the Plain Jane is a regular taco with seasoned beef, white cheddar shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and lettuce. The Gangsta I ordered had slow roasted birria beef and Mexican rice. The Swipe Right had herbed chicken, sweet and spicy bacon, aged white cheddar, salsa, and sour cream. All were great and as a trio, although mini-tacos, they are filling. The Fry Duo I got was really good too. It's supposed to be a combination of waffle fries and stick fries but it was mostly stick fries. The fries were fried to a golden crisp and came with ketchup and mildly spicy sauce. It's a big order of fries on its own. So if you order it with something else, you probably will want to share the fries with someone else. Everything was delivered rapidly and the fries and tacos came in separate corrugated cardboard boxes. Eating utensils were included and both boxes were in a tamper-free clear plastic bag. I never saw anything like it, but it is a good idea and ensures your order isn't tampered with and arrives warm. I would order from here again! The tacos were good. The spicy margarita was fantastic. Chips and queso was good, but I wish they did salsa and refills. I believe we had to pay for chips, which was different for us. Four out of six of were gluten free. The menu was clearly labeled and they had a dedicated fryer. We had not GF reactions or problems. What a great place, their taco's are on point and super size. I'm talking 6 inches of stuffed goodness, they are whoppers. It's nice to have good size portions as I feel a typical Taco Tuesday they skimp on things, but not at Agave & Rye. We all love that they put a crunchy shell surrounded by a soft shell. And their Taco Tuesday deal is awesome with the 4 or so Taco's they are probably about 50% for, so I paid less than 9 dollars for two. I could have gotten a 3rd, but then I would have been over eating, they are filling. I highly recommend the Plain Jane, but the bam bam looks good too. I love the uniqueness of this place, from the creative way they serve the Taco's with a plate to keep them standing, to the electric decor, it's not my taste but for interesting and unique. There are so many items I want to try, smash tacos and street tacos sound incredible, there is a freshness to their menu with a different style (kind of like the interior decorating) that really integrates me and is drawing me back to try more and more. Tried Agave & Rye this week, thanks to the $12 off $15 order from DoorDash. I did a pick up order, and scheduled it for the last possible pick up time of 10:05 p.m. I got a push notification at 9:35 p.m. that my order was ready. I'm not sure if this was lack of attention to detail on the restaurant's part, or a problem from DD's end. I did get a confirmation saying that my order was scheduled and would be ready between 10:00 p.m. and 10:10 p.m., so someone dropped the ball somewhere. ‍ Anyway... Despite the fact that the tacos were completely cold by the time I pick them up, they were really good. They are packed with toppings. The strawberry jalapeno salsa was absolutely amazing! If you haven't been to an Agave and Rye restaurant, they are definitely unique. The decorating is... something. Definitely an acquired taste. Though I saw lots of kids both leaving the restaurant and currently dining, it gives off a bar atmosphere. If you like quiet restaurants, this probably isn't the place for you. They still seem very disorganized... took a while for them to find a table for the people before me (for 3). They had plenty of open tables although there were about half that weren't clean. This was around 5:30... The waitress was friendly. She forgot the rice and sour cream which we very specifically asked for... then she didn't give us silverware... then she never got us refills and we tried to wave her down twice the four times she passed us without even looking our way... She might have had tables outside because it looked like she and some others jumped back and forth. They also appear to have teams. So... one, better logistics with table sectioning or they need to have everyone help each other and pay attention. The tacos were watery... overcooked from previous times I've eaten here. We have driven past this location since it opened. We heard mixed impressions so today we went in after running some errands around town. We were there in the middle of the afternoon so for them it was a bit of a slow time. There were a few people at the bar watching the Olympics and a group of folks celebrating a wedding. I am betting this place is pretty popular during regular meal times. We were immediately greeted by a friendly face (bartender) as we walked in the back door from the parking lot. She politely directed us to the hostess for seating. We sat in one of the booths underneath a TV (sound was off but the scrolling captures were helpful). Our server was amazing... just the right amount of attentiveness and good suggestions on food. Probably the highest tip that I have given in a while. Chips and CHUNKY salsa were great (I especially like the thicker chips), and the tacos were very inventive. I would definitely come back again, preferably in their off-hours when things are a little quieter. A couple of friends had expressed concerns about the cost of their meal. We got chips, tacos, and soft drinks for just over $20 (before taxes and tip). I thought that this was pretty reasonable. But I can see (like most places these days) that your bar tab could be as much or more with a couple of drinks. One last parting comment. The service from the time we walked in to the time walked out was outstanding. Food was good but the service was my highlight of the visit. read more

3rd time is the charm for me! We tried the Troy location twice, and both times, the food had to be comped. This time, the tacos came out hot and not cold! We were there for an event and sat out in the patio and Chris our server was great! The ambiance, staff, and food were on point! Hydrangeas on the fence line, umbrellas on the tables, multiple exit points (watch out for the dine and dashers) make it a great alternative from the high energy indoor atmosphere. The Mac N Cheeze Beignets with the Habanero Maple Syrup is off the chain!!!!!! Had to take some home. Add a few more Cauliflower Bites in the Sticky Cauliflower appetizer, and it becomes perfect. The Rooster was good but not a fan of the diced up pickles. Slicing them up would be better and drizzle the Nashville Hot sauce for more flavoring and enhanced presentation. The Happy Pappy and The Queen E could use more protein per entree as the taco shell is huge. The Green Goddess should have green on top presentation-wise instead of the spicy Crispy carrots. The timing of the drinks, appetizers, and entrees were perfect! We want an experience. This isn't fast food where you want to get in and get out ASAP. People complain in a big group that appetizers and entrees came out staggered...get over it....relax....enjoy the drinks...enjoy your company .. and realize you are in a packed establishment. Went here on the soft opening day. The place was packed. The decor and art work was very nice. But the music was a tad bit loud. The staff were very nice and the service was good. Coming to the food: 1. Chips and dips (4/5) - strawberry Jalapeños salsa, queso and guacamole(wish they had raw onions) 2. Elote (5/5) - The char on the corn was great 3. Sweet corn fritters (5/5) - loved them. Would get again and highly recommend. 4. Egg Roll (3/5) - Too much going on inside and the dough was tad bit undercooked 5. Recently we have dined at two other Uptown restaurants: Manna's and Brunch Pub. We expect all three properties to enjoy success. Lots of dollars, work, and effort are in abundance We like that Agave & Rye owners selected this prime location for their business, and we like the immediate parking adjacent to Main Street with a safe entrance. We do take care to preview reviews, and reviews indicate lack of training program for servers. A nearby newer restaurant also has a server problem, which demands more employees (Manna's.) We shall access the Agave & Rye server issue. It is a mistake for business owners to allow poor service to scuttle their best intentions. We view Agave & Rye as great dining; also note that Agave & Rye is much more than just another taco joint. Very interesting menu: lots of neat tacos, hot dogs, veggies, salads, burritos, burgers, desserts, et al. Servers: we immediately meet Christian, who is knowledgeable and personable. We note that several other servers are greeting customers, and there is very good vibe. Christian merits a solid five, and service is a five of five. Christian knows the business plan for Agave & Rye. Folks, if you have not yet taken the time to dine at Agave & Rye, we recommend this restaurant. Christian plans four different very large tacos for us, and each one is delicious. In our view, Agave & Rye offers the best taco in the Greater Dayton Metropolitan Area. This place is novel. I don't think I'll come here often but it was an interesting experience. The parking is terrible, they don't take reservations and, for a place literally called Agave and Rye, their drink menu was just ho hum. I found it more enjoyable perusing the taco menu than actually eating the tacos. However, the patio was lovely, the decor inside looked fun, and the food really was tasty, if not a little over the top. The mac n cheese beignets were yummy, especially with the syrup lightly drizzled. Guacamole was pretty standard, nothing to write about; as was the O.G. margarita (again, I expected more). Brussel sprouts were also tasty. They really take creative license with the word "taco". Two of the three tacos we ordered to share had Mac n cheese in them, which sounded good on paper but was just too much in execution. The tacos were so filling. I did enjoy the spirit of the taco menu though, so much creativity and blending of flavors. The dessert menu looked delicious but we were too full by that time to try it. read more

Another new restaurant which means I got to try it. Being so new, obviously the interior is immaculate. It's a relatively large place which has a bar, booths tables, and and outdoor seating. The place has sort of a "hipster" vibe. Lots of energy in the place. Staff people running around attending to customers. A nice selection of music, though as others have mentioned a bit loud. Even though they were busy, I was seated quickly. Tacos is their main thrust in food (they have other dishes) and they certainly have a lot of different riffs of tacos. My fish taco came with a crispy taco wrapped in a soft taco, which I thought was quite nice. However, I did ask for it without guacamole but someone wasn't paying attention. To his credit, the server tried really hard to correct the problem, but it wasn't a big deal to me. Their tequila list was decent, but not exactly inspired. Very nice selection of Bourbons. Strangely, the selection of ryes was about half the size of the Bourbons. I thought it was a good value meal. I'm very optimistic about where this restaurant could be going. Driving by and seeing the building made me so excited. It is definitely a unique style! I personally love it. Over the top and dramatic. Not your average Ohio restaurant. We were seated immediately outside (our pick) but it was probably about 10 minutes until our server came for drink orders. Fortunately that did give us time to know what we wanted to order as well. And we weren't in a hurry so bear that in mind when planning. I'm celiac so I was extremely pleased to see how the menu was clearly marked with gluten free items! I got a lemonade, husband got a margarita on the rocks. The lemonade tasted like Minute Maid maybe? My husband said the margarita was good but at $14 he doesn't think he would get it again. We ordered a dip trio of chunky salsa, queso and quac. All were delicious!! The chips are nice and thick to support heavier dips. The dip trio is $19.50 which is very high in price but if you look at the individual dip prices it is a good deal. I do think you should get extra chips when you order this because we had so much extra queso and quac and no more chips. I was wanting the chips and dips mostly so I just added a side of the tater tots. I love tater tots but I have to say these are more like potato logs. The inside reminds me of the consistency of Cracker Barrells hash brown casserole. Very peppery. Not bad but definitely not your average tater tot! I prefer a crispier smaller tater tot. My husband got the Queen E taco. He said it felt like it had been sitting under the warmer for a bit before being delivered but he also said it was amazing!! Our server described it as fish n chips in a taco. While we were there our server seemed to maybe have inside and outdoor tables which made it hard for him to check on us much. A table near us ending up leaving because the wait for anyone to approach the table took so long. It seems they've recently opened and my guess is everyone is still figuring out all the kinks. The atmosphere plus the food make it a great place for a night out. I think we can all agree that the area could use a place like this. Hubby and I visited Agave and Rye for the first time on Sunday afternoon. The first thing we noticed was their very quirky decor - brutalitic black exposed pipes spray painted. Crystal chandeliers with black wire cages and spray painted silver bulldogs on the bar. However, the seats were comfortable, and the waitress was attentive. We ordered some birria street tacos to share, and each ordered a large taco. I tried the The Good Wolf and hubby tried the The Rooster. This place can accommodate large groups and also has a generous amount of bar seats. The Mac and cheese beignets are very good and surprisingly sweet. They reheated well too. Their epic tacos are well, epically large. Too big for me to tackle. I prefer their Mamacita's baby tacos - three small tacos packed with flavor. The carne asada egg rolls I didn't care for - I didn't like having noodles inside an egg roll. I've had some very slow service here before where it took 15 minutes for a server to come.
