This was, quite simply, bad. Went to Agave and Rye after an event in Grandview; about 8 pm on a Tuesday. We were looking for a few drinks and simple snacks, and this seemed to be a great option for it. The place was fairly empty, so we were a little surprised that we were led not to a table in the front (cooler, nicely lit) room, but to a booth in the other back half of the restaurant, past an arcade section-- a booth with sticky seats, a seemingly broken tv (with a perpetual "ARE YOU STILL WATCHING?" message on it, though nothing was playing-- just turn it off?), and seemingly no access to the AC (even our server commented on how this part of the restaurant was too hot compared to others). We ordered the margaritas that were half off due to a Tuesday special (though mine was still $9 when the bill came-- what I ordered certainly would not have been worth $18!). We also ordered a three dip and chip dish to share. The dips we chose were guacamole, queso, and a pineapple pico de gallo. We were kind of shocked when the dips came out: the queso was half melted and half not (shreds of unmelted cheese covered the top half of the bowl) and the salsa was seemingly water with a few chunks of pineapple and tomato floating at the top. My whole table was shocked by the look of the salsa and that it had even left the kitchen. When the server came back over, we asked her if the salsa was supposed to look like that (when you dipped your chip in, nothing but a wet chip came out, as if dipping in a bowl of water). She noted: "Not really, it was probably from the bottom of the pan." (My thought: if you know the salsa is not supposed to look like that and it's the drugs of a pan, please don't serve it.) She asked if we wanted her to try to get us fresh salsa, and she returned with a very different looking, better bowl-- but it was odd we had to ask. The chips were not flavorful and seemed stale-- they were also huge and had to be broken up to dip them. Food, service, ambiance-- I found it all the be extremely lacking. I've reviewed other agave and rye's before, it is my favorite restaurant chain. We had a good experience at this one. The environment was nice, the songs were good. Our waiter was very attentive and interactive with us. Unfortunately the chips for our queso were overcooked and so it was very crunchy and at times hard to eat. I got the Rooster taco, and it was amazing as always, my only complaint is that there is never enough pickles on it! Overall we had a great time and will likely come back in the future. read more

Very fun and unique interior. There is a big parking lot by pay in the back. They have the option for taco flights and trio dips for chips. The dips were pretty good. The tacos sounded amazing from the menu with fun names. They even have a kangaroo meat taco, although I would not go for that. I got the gangsta and the filthy fajita tacos. Unfortunately, they were just not good. There was no flavor to them and they were served lukewarm. I asked for a hot sauce and received just a cold salsa-like dip instead. Agave and Rye has been an excellent and welcome addition to the lineup of restaurants on Grandview Avenue in Grandview Heights. Formally the location of the beloved restaurant Spagio, the entire space has been rethought into a taco and tequila restaurant. The food selections here are handcrafted and well-made. The entire space is conducive to group gatherings, or intimate conversations. I think it makes a pretty good option for a date night, particularly because after you finish dinner, there are some other things that you can do here on the Grandview Avenue strip. For example: attend a movie, pour custom scented candles, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and conversation, have a sweet treat of ice cream at one of several vendor locations, or retire to another bar for cocktails. We love visiting Agave & Rye at the Cincinnati locations, but we were so disappointed when visiting the Grandview location. We came on a Saturday night with a reservation for a birthday. They were understaffed. It looked like they had 4 servers and 1 bartender. We waited about 15 minutes for our server to come over, so we ordered right away wondering if service would be slow. When the food got here it was cold, and our drinks weren't ready until the meal was half way through. I always order the Rooster, the Happy Meal, and the Crown Jewel. The mac n cheese on both tacos had solidified since it was not hot/warm. I took one bite and figured we could warm them up at home (fearing it would be another long wait if asked for them to be heated) so we waited another 15 minutes until we saw our server and asked for to go boxes and the check. After we paid and she brought the boxes she acknowledged the birthday as we were standing up to leave and got a tiramisu cake to go. Oooooh this place was good. Group of 3, seated quickly with no reservations. Nice seating outside to watch passerby. Drinks: I got the hot & juicy which was basically a spicy watermelon margarita and wowie was this . Every drink looked great and I wish I could have tried them all! Tacos: I did a flight of 3- the Rooster, the Island Banger, and the Swipe Right. The Rooster was my favorite. I liked the Island Banger but found the coconut a bit too sweet. Chips: so good and thick! Would make great nachos. Some chips had salt (good) and some didn't (not good). Salsa had good texture and I appreciated the fire roasted tomatoes but I wanted a little more flavor. Visited Agave & Rye on a Saturday night. I made a reservation but there were many open tables when I arrived. I was greeted by the host and taken to my table. The waitress arrived shortly after. I ordered Chips and Queso as a starter. The Queso was packed with flavor. It tasted great. I also got a beer. Their draft list is very limited, which was made worse when they were out of their seasonal beer. I settled for a Modelo. As for my entree, I got the taco flight. Korean BBQ Chicken, Pork Carnitas and Beef Birria were the tacos I selected. All three tacos were great, but my favorite was the Birria Beef. All of the ingredients worked well. We were in town with our husbands, while they went to a game convention this week. We found Agave & Rye on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Day 1 of the convention, my friend and I went together. We had margaritas, along with the 3 taco plate. Everything tasted good and the margaritas (1 watermelon and 1 prickly pear) were pretty yummy. Sarah was our waitress and did a great job explaining the menu. The next day we headed back there for lunch with our husbands while they were on break. We ordered 3 of the taco samplers and the corn appetizer. We let Sarah, our waitress again, know one of us was in a hurry and she made sure to get the orders in quickly. Food and service was good once again. My friend and I stopped a little bit later, to wait for the guys to get done. We sat at the bar and had the same margaritas that we had one day one. Cody was our bartender and had a great personality. This is a nice place, with a good selection on the menu (including choices for those with dietary restrictions). The decor was pretty fun as well. I have loved everything I have tried thus far. My husband and I have gone to Agave & Rye multiple times at this point and its still a winner. All the food is so flavorful and the menu never gets boring with something new to try everyone. I will say my absolute favorite taco so far is the crispy salmon one. Ambiance was interesting very artsy. We had a reservation so seated right away. Drinks came pretty fast. I got the signature margarita, which was very good. We ordered the flight of three sauces guacamole, salsa and queso. My husband wasn't a fan of the salsa but I liked it. It's pretty pricey to get individual tacos but if you get the flight of 3 it's worth it. The Birria is very good. Was looking for a fun place and some good Mexican food so after reading such great reviews we came here! Overall loved the funky decor! This place has a super fun atmosphere but I was kind of disappointed in the arcade game area being so small and just a babysitter for the kids. Our waiter was great and served us quickly. We ordered some drinks and started off with chips and guac which the guac was insanely amazing! We also tried the salsa roja and it was tasty. The Mac and cheese beignets were okay...I wasn't a fan of having to dunk them in the overly-sweet maple syrup sauce and without it, the flavor was just severely lacking. Unfortunately I did not learn my lesson and ordered the Crown Jewel epic taco which also had the bland mac and cheese in it. Once I dug that out it was decent. I also grabbed a side of the refried bean dip which was delicious. I don't recall which taco my brother ordered but he did like it quite a bit. came for my friends birthday (which happens to also be cinco de mayo!) service was slowwww. took almost and hour just to get our margs. we finally got our food after an hour and half only to be told that we had 30 minutes left to eat it due to the reservations being a 2 hour limit. Such a breath of fresh air in the restaurant industry for a place to put such emphasis in this area. It did not go unnoticed. My mom and I arrived for Restaurant Week (first timers to this restaurant or any Agave and Rye) and with her handicap, Taylor at the front made sure to take care of us and accommodate her in every way. She helped us to our seat, put her walker in a safe place and helped us exit the restaurant in an easier/more handicapped friendly way (out the back door that is usually closed). Love it here! I been to the agave and Rye in Cincinnati when they first opened and I was honestly too impressed, but I was looking for a lunch option on Easter and I decided to give it a shot. We weee greeted and seated right away, the service was above and beyond, the waitress was attentive, friendly, quick. I was impressed with the service from beginning to end. I ordered a side on chips and salva verde, the bang bang taco and the birria tacos (3) and a side of kimichi rice. Everything was so delicious so flavorful and unique. None of the plates were dull. Can't believe it took me so long to finally make it here! The restaurant is huge and the design is a vibe. I love all of the chandeliers! We stopped in for lunch on Saturday during Restaurant Week, but decided to order off the normal menu. I was a little skeptical about the double wrapped tacos, they certainly were messy, but they were delicious! I ordered the Plain Jane and the Swipe Right off the epic taco section. The Plain Jane was what you would expect, but the chicken on the Swipe Right was perfectly tender, I can see why it's a favorite!
