I've been a patient at this dental office for over a year now and all my experiences thus far have been great. Last week I had my four wisdom teeth extracted and, although I was nervous about the procedure, I felt very comfortable under the care of the doctors. My procedure went well and I am recovering with no problems. The entire staff is super kind, thorough, and efficient. The office & waiting room themselves are also well-kept and accommodating; there's plenty of seating, a TV, a small fridge with water bottles, a coffeemaker, and a playroom for children. I visited this dental office because of all the good reviews on yelp, but I am true believer that you have to be honest and partial on giving stars to any business according to personal experience. Unfortunately for me in particular, my experience was not as good as what other reviewers expressed on there, now here is why. After seeing the reviews from other people, I believe I made the right choice in at least giving them a try, when I arrived (they are next to Super A Foods Market) I parked right up front, approached the young lady on the counter and explained why I was there, my issue, a cavity had formed on one of me teeth, (they call it number 4) which was causing food to get stuck in there and made it uncomfortable to eat, yet I had not pain, just the bothersome feeling that it filled with food as I ate, so I had to keep dental floss in my pocket for after meals. I figure I wanted t take care of this one cavity, that was my sole reason for being there, I explained to the front desk girl, that I was a cash/credit patient with no insurance. She advised the doctor will see me and for me to take a seat, offered coffee or water, she was actually pleasant. After filling some paperwork and a short wait, I was called in for Xrays and consultation. That procedure went ok, as with any other dentist "Bite hard on this SNAP!, now bite hard on this side SNAP! and so on... it was actually cool to see my xrays right in front of me on a monitor. So here is the reason why I would give them two stars..... The doctor came in and she was ok, checked inside my mouth (she hums while doing this, not sure what song but she was humming something). She explained that my cavity seemed very large and that I may or may not need a root canal, huh? This confused me a bit, she tried an "Ice" test to see my pain tolerance, but I did not feel anything different from the good tooth, and the one with the cavity,(she was comparing) she advised that we should take care of "My need at hand", and off she went. The next person in the room was that one friendly receptionist, with a board in hand, I knew what was coming.. She started telling me that the I needed a Deep cleaning (300.00), irrigation (80.00) A possible root canal (550.00), a onlay (750.00) (this is sorta of like a crown for the tooth with the cavity that may or may not needed a root canal, and a partial denture (1,400.00). At this point it dawned on me, why is it that dentist never concentrate on what a patient needs, but want to sell you a mouthful of things that I was not there for, I understand that these are things the doctors sees as necessary, but that did not solve the reason I was there, that one cavity that bothered me while eating. Now, was I given the choice to only have work on my cavity done, NOPE.... This was presented as a whole package for a total of $3,080.00. I was very disappointed, yes I may needed a Deep Cleaning, yes I may or may not needed a root canal (I cannot even get over that one) and yes I may needed an irrigation, but what I really needed right there and then, was to have this cavity taken care off, I would had been willing to pay for it, have they given me an estimate on that one need, but they did not. So off I went with a hand written estimate on a care credit, brochure, yes literally written on the brochure, not printed out neatly, or anything like that, and a warm moistened towelette which the girl gingerly explained, I could use to smell or clean my face with, but be careful, its hot she said. :/ Bottom line on this review is Dentist are like mechanics, always finding something else that is "Wrong" and adding that to the bill. Never liked the dentist, till I broke my tooth a couple days ago. Heard of this place through a family friend, and needless to say they're GREAT. Staff is friendly, and accommodating. Both Drs. Did what they needed to do to get me approved, and so I would leave with my temporary teeth. My temps look just like my real teeth! Never really liked the dentist until I came to this office! The dentists here are very thorough in their exams. They're always great at explaining their plan for the procedure. Staff is very friendly as well. I've had cavities filled at other dentist offices before and the recovery at those offices haven't been as great as when I visit this office. The dentists here get my 'bite' right the first time, instead of me being in pain after having a cavity filled as I have experienced at other dental offices. I love my new dentist, Dona Torbati! I was in search for a new dentist because I had a really big hole in my bottom left tooth and my recent dentist was trying to up-sell me with gum surgery and everything else! I couldn't pay a co-payment of $400 for a root canal! I was recommended summer smile dental by my dads HR rep and I was really scared and skeptical about changing dentists because I hate dental work! but I had to go because I could not whatsoever eat on the left side of my mouth! So I went on 12/16/14, they took x-rays, and right off the bat Dr. Torbati could tell I needed a root canal and I was having some nerve pain. She was only concerned on making my pain go away and making me a happy patient. I was also very happy that Dr. Torbait took the time to help me with my insurance information for I did not have my dental card or nothing on me. She was on the phone herself getting the run around but she ended up getting my insurance info and we were able to start work that day! She made me feel so comfortable and made my root canal a walk in the park! I was able to leave that day with my tooth repaired and was able to eat again ! I'm currently a patient at Glow Dental.......I wasn't aware that they had another location till one day I called on an emergency that I had. The only problem was that I was in LA county coming back home, the receptionist told me that I could go to their South Gate location instead of rushing through traffic to make it to their Orange office. I did stop by and was seen ASAP.....ended up being a wisdom tooth extraction. Had the extraction done the same day!!!! I love both offices! THE DOCTORS ARE THE BEST. I been coming to this dentist office for a few months now, I usually wait from 30 to 40 minutes from the time my appointment is to be actually seen by a dentist. There's times when I'm here from 2 to 3 hrs and the last time I came the dentist actually forgot to dismiss me it wasn't until I was walking out that a nurse saw me and told me to go back to the room then the dentist came in to tell me I was free to go. They don't pick up their phone if you need to tell them that you will be late to the appointment and then when you show up and tell them that the phone wasn't picked up they just choose to reschedule you and don't care. If you're looking for a dentist look else where, I wish I had. read more

I've been to several dental offices yet I could never find an office that I felt comfortable and unafraid. From the minute I walked into Summet Dental I felt welcomed. Staff was very polite and very helpful. The procedure was done within a timely manner. The waiting area is clean, they offer water, coffee and toys for kids to play with. While waiting to be seen there was a little kid crying their poor heart out and one of the staff members assisted the child with a balloon and assured them that they weren't going to hurt them and they were there to help. Sure enough with the tone she used the child stopped crying. It melted my heart! I will definitely be back and I highly recommend summer smile dental. MY mouth has found a new home. read more

First let me tell you I have sensitive teeth as F**k. The last 6 years I haven't been to a single dentist who know how to handle my teeth (more importantly my gums) with care. Every experience up until now has been a horrible, painful one. A friend recommended this place to me so I looked them up on Yelp and decided to give them a try. So I get there and I'm sitting in the chair when the cute little dentist tells me "you need a root canal." I'm thinking "only one." Normally I would have pushed it off again but I was in so much pain I had to do it. If I knew that I would have barely felt anything I would have gotten my teeth fixed a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago. Dr. is very detailed oriented and efficient. She is gentle and listens to the patient. The office is clean and the assistants are great. Super awesome experience, everyone is very friendly. I walked in to schedule and appointment, I was given the usual paperwork you fill out with any new doctor. I was able to take it home and fill it out to being. Imported the next day. I was running 15 minutes late to my appointment. I called ahead of time to let them know of my delay thus were totally ok with it. Upon arrival, I turned in my application. They called me in to get my X-ray. Meanwhile in the background they were checking to ensure my dental insurance was valid and to find out what my limits were. BAM X-rays done, insurance verified. Needed to get two cavities taken care of, they were done on the spot. I was then scheduled for a deep cleaning the following week. Before you leave you're given a lemon scented wet towel, super cool. I returned for my deep cleaning. The hygienist was super professional and cool. She took the time to explain what she was doing, etc. Kept me at ease throughout the cleaning. At the end of the cleaning she gave me some great suggestions on how to floss etc. Overall, I would highly recommend this dental office. My favorite part is the lemon scented towel at the end of your visit. read more

Dr. Donna Torbati is an amazing dentist as is her assistant Maria. I have completely had my lower teeth all redone and now I'm working on my uppers. My mouth looks beautiful and she takes so much pride in her work. My family goes there as well. When you call in Marina is always answering with a smile and always has the answers. The front staff need to be replaced by professional staff. Front desk need to inform patients correctly,I went in with an appointment so they can turn me away and explain that my insurance were not authorized for treatment but explain that I would need to pay large amount of money upfront to continue treatment !!! My wife decided to schedule an appointment with them because if the good reviews she seen on yelp. She was having some pain. I decided to do a walk-in to do a check up . We got X-rays and consultation , The dr told my wife she needed a deep cleaning and she can remove her tooth fillings for white ones.price deep cleaning $300 and the white fillings $210 depends how deep it is . The girl in the front desk didn't explain to us that it was $300 for each quadrant the total for all was around more than $2000 . The doctor told her she didn't find any cavities and didn't know the cause of her pain . I also needed a deep cleaning and a dental implant and for that total cost was $4800 just for me . The Doctor and the receptionist told us we can apply for the care credit so we can get started for our procedure but we had our little boy with us we told them we would come back and look for a sitter The doctor insisted for us to stay and get it done and said she would make one the the dental assistants take care of my child ! When we were about to leave the doctor quickly tells her receptionist to make me sign that I was going to be charged $980 to get my procedure started , but I never started the procedure so I just decided to went back later on that day because I was already charged for. They removed the bridge and put a temporary bridge and took an imprint.i know that Is not worth $980 , $200 the most . Later on I found out that I can't be charged for a procedure they haven't done . She seemed money hungry and eager for us to get it done , i decide to go a week after to pay what she had done in cash and to refund back the $980 to my care credit and she said she couldn't because she had done half of the dental implant , I asked for a copy of what she had done that day and she refused to give me any paper work or copy and said it takes 2 weeks to get it off the computer !! read more

But at the end of the day is just a business deal!! I had called them because I saw a deal they had in Groupon which sounded really good!! And yes I read the fine print on groupon!! So they schedule me an appointment, went in filled paperwork they asked for my insurance info! They did X-rays and a check-up, after that they told me what was wrong gave me the total amount, which I wasn't happy with because it wasn't making sense!! I left, they called me back telling me they had a deal of $193 for a deep cleaning which is one of the procedure I need!! Which I got excited cause that was why less then the Groupon deal!! As soon as I told them about my insurance and how much would my copayment would be , it took a left turn!! They asked if they could call me back cause they needed to call my insurance!!! So I waited, they did called me back and she told me that's it's going to more because my insurance charges by quad which we have four quads!! and that it was going to be $127 for each quad!! and I was like isn't it the other way around you guys bill my insurance, then she comes up with well the $193 deal is for patients with no insurance or medical and I then told her then why bother calling and giving false information to patients who have insurance, maybe they should do more research and check the patients files before calling and falsely advertising deals!!! Really disappointed. I came here probably in the beginning of January for for some fillings on a couple teeth, only to find out at another dentist place that I need a root canal. I wish they could have told me that before I got a filling on one of my teeth. I don't remember the dentist name but he was very busy with three other patients The day I had my appointmen. it would have been better if the front desk would have told me that he is busy around the time I went. When I asked a question he said he wouldn't see my child for treatment because he showed fear. Seriously, what 4 year old likes the dentist. (Very few, maybe) . I'm not a resident of South Gate, and was only here visiting my sister and niece. My go-to dentist was an office in beverly hills, which had changed doctors recently. Late in August I took my niece (Stacie) to Summer Smile for a checkup and cleaning (my sister had made an appointment for her). As this was my first time taking a 12 year old to a dental appointment, I was dreading the experience (probably more than her). My niece had visited the office once before and seemed surprisingly unafraid of the upcoming visit. The front desk receptionist was friendly and greeted her by name while filling out some forms. We were led to an exam room in the back where the doctor came and introduced herself, again engaging Stacie in conversation. She spent a good amount of time digging around the little mouth, and calling out notes to her assistant. An amount of mystery liquid was applied to the teeth and allowed to set in. The result; a clean bill of health, doctor (torbati) declared healthy teeth, and advised a few points where flossing wasn't being done correctly, or often enough. What stood out to me were a few facts. First off, South Gate is not where you would expect to find a meticulously clean, professionally run dental office, but this operation really was impressive. It's almost as if that little office is operating completely unattached from the city around it. It also impressed me that the doctor was working on my niece's mouth in real time. She wasn't bouncing in and out while having the assistant do everything, doctor Torbati was absorbed by her work, paying attention to every little side of every little tooth. Finally, I realized that this little girl had willingly come in, casually sat through a procedure (checkup and cleaning) and left with a smile. This could only be chalked up to the professional and gentle nature of all the staff. They took the time to make the visit pleasant for her, and in return she seemed to almost enjoy the venture. I really like the people there, they are very friendly to first timers. The dentist nicely explains what you need and they aren't too pushy about anything. However, I was pretty disappointed with the deep cleaning because I continued to feel some rough weird spots and had to pay for an $80 anti-bacterial wash. They advertise it as $199 but with the $80 wash you end up paying what they charge in other places. Mind you, don't have any insurance so everything came out of my own pocket. read more

The dental hygienist explains everything very well and does a great job with being gentle and efficient. My father loves coming to Dr. Torbati's office! He always feel at home with the way they treat my father. Marina is always very friendly and kind, and the assistant Maria takes the easiest x-rays He has ever experienced. Dr. Torbati did some veneers for him which gave him his smile back, he is so grateful of that. She is very detail oriented and made sure the veneers are perfect before finishing.
