It's about 2 miles total in hiking, so not very grueling, but the terrain does vary quite a bit throughout. The trails are chock full of inclines, declines, and roots to navigate. There is also an "easier" trail (which is considered moderate by trail standards around these parts) and a red marked trail. We stayed on the regular trail with the kids and had a fine time enjoying our stroll through nature. Some areas of the trail are rather narrow, and the entire place is well shaded during the summertime, making this a great place to come even on the hottest and most humid of days. No sunscreen needed! While I do have to admit that the "cascade" was a little underwhelming compared to what I had pictured in my mind's eye, the trickling sound of water always makes for the most tranquil of moments. This place is another deserving mention on the list of absolutely beautiful nature places to check out in the Triad!

The playground itself has multiple slides, swings, plenty of obstacles for the kids to climb and what I found most fascinating was the monkey bars that were toddler height! I have never seen that on a playground before so it was very appealing to me since my child enjoys them but is always in need of assistance considering they are often so high. In addition to the playground there is a basketball court, skate park and tennis court. The park seems well maintained, the bathrooms are little dated so it would be nice to see an improvement with that one day. Great place to rent an outdoor shelter for a cookout or birthday party.

Right near by, we came across the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, another spot we've never explored. Parking was easy, they've got a decent size parking lot. Being a sunny, and hot Sunday morning, the tree coverage over the walk ways through the garden provide a ton of shade, which made for a very pleasant exploration. The whole garden is so nicely maintained, with probably a couple of miles worth of paved paths. There are plenty of sculptures to discover, and lots of benches to take a sit, and just enjoy being outside and the well manicured gardens. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to get out of the house and do a little urban exploring. It's even good for older people, as the paths are paved, with minimal hills.

For just $6 you can bring your own kayak, SUP, or canoe to launch on their sandy little beach. Or you can rent one of their kayaks. Even on weekends with decent weather I've seen them mostly available on the spot. There are also options for an annual pass, fishing, and even a paved ramp to put in motorized boats. You could also very easily just sit and relax here by the waterside or stroll around. But if you want to get on the lake, this is the prime spot. Bird watching along the shoreline is great from the vantage point of the kayak. With a vast array of birdsong to ID, you can even see kingfishers ducking, diving, and doing anything to ruin your chances of proving they exist with a photograph. But at least you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing float to ease the soul.
