My wife saw this on Yelp said we should stop here. The parking is on the street and the bog is pretty much the whole area. Wooden walkways run through the trees above the ground and water. We saw some ducks and other smaller creatures about. It didn't take long to walkthrough and we all agree it was cute and okay for a free place to go.

Nice place to take a stroll. Lots of wildlife like ducks and squirrels and various birds to see. Not too large of an area so you'll be done in half an hour or less. There are good picture opportunities and it's quiet and peaceful.

I simply love this place! It's so zen, and while I don't get to go often, last time I did, I was able to go alone and was there for 2 hours before I even got past the waterfall area (which is right near the entrance by the shopping center across the street). I can easily spend whole days here and at the botanical gardens as well of course! I love seeing cranes there (the flapping wings variety; not to be confused with the destroy nature variety!), and last time I saw ducks roosting eggs in their nests! If you're compelled by nature like myself, you have to see this place.

The Bog Garden is a nice place to go for a peaceful walk in nature. It is across the street from the Tanger Bicentennial Garden. You can either park on the street on Starmount Farms Rd or park in the Tanger Bicentennial lot and walk across the street at the crosswalk. You can walk in the wetlands on the boardwalk and see wildlife and plants along the way. As it is shady, this would be a great place to walk in the summer.

Beautiful place to walk. There is a path and a boardwalk. We enjoyed watching the ducks

A very different type of garden walk. Enjoyed the wildlife, boardwalk, stone work and plants that thrive in this natural habitat.

The Bog Garden is actually the middle one of 3 park and/or wildlife areas in the section of Greensboro bordered by N. Holden Road/W. Cornwallis Drive, and running into the back side of Friendly Shopping Center. The other 2 are the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden/David Caldwell Historical Site, and the very small, very hidden Benjamin Park, which starts out behind the Junior Achievement Headquarters building and ends at Pembroke Road. The front part borders Starmount Farms Lake directly across from the Bog Garden. The Benjamin Park is named for Edward and Blanche Benjamin who owned the Starmount Farms property that covered most of the immediate area, including Friendly Center, and they also were instrumental in developing the Starmount Forest and Hamilton Lake neighborhoods. The Bicentennial Garden is full of all sorts of flowers, trees, and bushes, and has a nice set of sidewalks for strolling or power walking, even. The Benjamin Park is small, some covered by nicely tended lawn areas & benches, very quiet and secluded amid all the bustle around it. But, the Bog Garden is the real gem here - thickly treed, with wooden boardwalks above the wetland areas, which are fed by several running creeks, and patroled constantly by ducks and Canadian geese. It is quiet, protected from the sun and noise, very primordial in nature. The wetland area continues to where Starmount Lake begins. The Bog Garden gradually rises toward Northline Avenue at the back of Friendly Center, and as you walk upward you will encounter several more strongly running creeks, and several small, but beautiful, waterfall areas - one is named Serenity Waterfalls, and honors Dr. Joe Christian, who was central to the preservation & development of this area. All three of these natural areas are worth a visit, but the Bog Garden in particular is a don't miss experience, especially on a hot, sunny day - going into it is like a nice, cool clound around you.

I love to go to the Bog Garden. There is always something good to see. The Blue Heron is always there and right now the changing leaves make it.

Over the years, I have seen fish, ducks (usually mallards),a gaggle of mallard babies, alligator snapping turtle(2013),Canadian geese, herons, owl, snake, squirrels, chipmunks, lizards, insects, birds, etc. On this past Saturday , there were various people (bog visitors) helping you to find these animals as they are patient in trying to help you look and nice to help children.Sometimes people with dogs let you pet the dog.Ther is a wooded hill called Melvin's Mountain which I believe is a 62there are countless varieties of plants along the pats, wooden walkways, dam, and bridges. It is not very large but offers a nice visit especially with children.

I've never been to the pool, but it looks like it is really fun compared to other pools I've seen. I finally went behind the center to the pond and lake, and they were so amazing. I went fishing out there, and in the pond, there was actually a lot to catch. We threw it back, but it was still fun for my first official time! It's actually relaxing out there. I do wish they would take better care of the pond though because there's a lot of algae out there.

This is truly a full service park! That said, my review will focus mainly on the golf portions, with the park overall being a solid 5, and a must use for anyone in the Greensboro area. The driving range is just what you want and nothing more. A big open field to hit balls into, no frills, and also at a cheaper price than average. This is all I need, and all just about anyone would need at an amateur level. Distances are marked, and since it is pretty flat, you'll get a good idea for how far and straight you are hitting what. It's a popular place to practice, especially after typical work hours. The par 3 course... wellllll... it is less of a golf course, more of a hilly open area with some cutouts that would indicate a "green." There are 9 holes, the longest of which is about 130 yards, so no need to bring many clubs with you. The greens are about as rough as they get. There really isn't much of a putting surface. Too many weeds, and it's cut too long to get a realistic roll, I actually don't bother putting, because it isn't going to be good practice. There is also usually goose poop landmined around the course, the greens are no exception. The greens are also very small, none of which would be more than 25 feet in diameter, if that. The way I usually play, sticking the green from the tee is a birdie. Chipping up within about 5-8 feet is par. Anything outside of that, bogey. All this critique given, it was less than 10 bucks to play, really as much as you'd like. It does help you work on your short irons and wedges, and for that, I enjoy it and will return. Also, cheap beers in the clubhouse are just 2 bucks!

It offers a ton of parking, a pool, gazebos and kayaks for rent, and activities for kids. City Lake hosts community events from time to time, and it can get quite crowded on those days, but go during an off-hour and its fairly serene. For walkers, there's a view of the lake and some interesting wildlife (Muscovy ducks, anyone?). The trails also connect to the Piedmont Environmental Center, which is worth remembering should PEC parking ever fill up. Whether you want to swim, fish, paddle, or stroll, City Lake Park has what you need to be able to enjoy the outdoors.

You can actually buy a pass for $5 and ride the train and carousel unlimited times all day! Now that's a deal! The particular day we went, they even had food trucks. The playground has been recently remodeled, all the equipment is very brand new. They have a section for the older kids and well as toddlers. Plenty of swings and lots of opportunities to climb and slide. Everything overlooks the lake and a portion of the train ride even goes alongside it. I enjoyed going through the tunnel the most. Though the carousel is a little dated, it's still fun and only $1. The boat ride was neat too. There's an ample amount of shelters available should you want to reserve one for a party and if you enjoy walking or riding your bike, there are plenty of trails that connect. If you want to find more information on hours and cost of the additional amenities I'd suggest looking at the website. The water park has its own pricing and hours. I'm sure the summer hours of operation of the park are different than the fall/winter. Overall this is a great place to have a day trip and it be fun for the whole family at an affordable rate!
