I went in to this store not really knowing what I needed-I'm trying to get a gift for my musician son. There was a nice lady who pointed me in the right direction and gave me a little guidance, as much as she could without knowing what I needed either. In the end, I bought a gift certificate and booked a time to come back with my son to try out some instruments. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was upbeat. Not being a musical being myself, I was surrounded by foreign objects-but from the looks of it, I would say this place caters more to students rather than professionals. My daughter (15 year old) had an issue with her new Fender Bass (purchased online from Fender)...the bone nut was installed improperly. I looked for an authorized Fender shop for warranty repair and found Riverton. The technician, Jim, quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered a new part from Fender. Jim installed the new bone nut and set up the bass...my daughter says it is now awesome to play! I am really happy with the work from Riverton and their customer service. I've been to this store for recitals and to buy music and have been satisfied but I recently took my son's saxophone in to be refined and tuned up. After less than a week it fell apart and was unplayable. So I took it in again and I appreciated them not charging me again but it's once again worse off than before we took it in and unplayable. So don't take an instrument to be repaired or tuned up here. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of music shops to repair/tune up instruments so now we're at a loss of what to do. read more

I wrote a review about my experience with Riverton music in the last 6 months. With the climax being my pure rage and distaste for their customer service regarding repairs. Drew contacted me regarding my review asking me to bring in the flute for an explanation in hopes of having my review taken down or revised. Well, here is my revision. Keith is the repair guy at Riverton, and by his fellow employees he is regarded as "one if the best". I'm not sure I agree. My invoice has said that I had 2 pads replaced at $17/pad and a $14 regulation fee. I could only see one pad replaced (that pad was white while all other pads were yellow/aged looking). He said that since he had quoted me $50 for the repair that he had discounted the regulation charge. But that he had replaced 4 pads in all. Including a piece of cork. He said he doesn't update invoices to correctly show what was actually done, because parents don't want to pay above and beyond the quote. I was told several different regulation fees. Anywhere from $25-$37. I strongly believe that discounting something or failing to put all repairs on an invoice is parallel to lying to a customer. And I told Alan and Keith that much. There should be a diagram or something saying what exactly was done with the instrument! These instruments are not cheap, and repairing them isn't either. I as fully prepared to pay the full price, knowing it would be close to $100, because I know what that takes. Being completely honest on an invoice would avoid any issues like the ones I have had with you guys. I appreciate Drew for taking the time to reach out to me. And for Alan and Keith to spend time explaining to me how their process works and what was done to my instrument. Although I'm pretty sure Keith was not completely truthful, just to cover his butt and "make me happy". I may in the future try them again for repairs, but I'm not sure. Sorry guys. The more I thought about things after I left, I'm still not 100% satisfied. And I don't think any amount of talking or discounts will change that for me. They cancelled my daughter's lessons at her school, then sent us to the wrong school to get her lessons. After offering a refund, they made me come into the store, where they assured me that they'd mail the check to me in 3 weeks, max. Months later, calling them several times a week, I still have no refund. They say they'll call me back and never do. Once again, they assured me that they'd "get to the bottom of it" and cut me a check, but no such thing has happened in the 6 days since, and no one is returning my calls. read more

Customer Service is significantly lacking. We entered the store with no one there, the two women behind the counter directed us to another guy to rent a violin, and after measuring our son we had to wait for one of the two women to assist, which meant waiting for the other three people who entered after us to be helped. The women refused to help the guy complete our order, and all the while our kids got more and more hungry and more and more tired of waiting. Other than returning the violin when our rental is up, I don't think we'll be coming back to this location. read more

I had a horrible experience with them. I went in to rent a clarinet and on the rental application I noticed that they asked for my social security number just in case they have to find me through my credit report if I run away with their clarinet. I do not trust leaving my social security number with such companies so I proposed if they would charge me a deposit and since they have my credit card number on file and my ID, they should be able to accommodate me; its not like we were talking about equipment worth thousands of dollars. The person responsible for their credit told me that she can run my credit right now and I won't then need to leave my SSN number with them. I did not like that option either since I was not going to get a hit of a few points on my credit score for something worth only a few hundred dollars. So I left. I returned soon back after to discover if they can redact my SSN from the files once I return the clarinet, that way I would not have my SSN hanging out indefinitely. At that time she stated that since I have refused to provide the SSN once, she was suspicious of me and I was high risk and she wouldn't rent me the equipment without running the credit check. Way to make a customer feel welcomed and appreciated. I felt like they were pretty much refusing me the service. Very disappointing. I was going to rent equipment worth about 500 dollars, for 10 months at about 30 bucks a month. Not sure if the ownership/management realizes that stupidity and stubbornness is costing them money. One of the worst experiences I have had in almost a decade, I even wondered if my appearance had anything to do with the kind of service. Anyhow, I needed the clarinet desperately so I called Hyland Music past their open hours. Fortunately Markus picked up the phone and kept the store open for me till I arrived. I ended up buying a clarinet from him at a much better price then what Riverton Music was offering and was actually happy afterwards that Riverton Music treated me that way and forced me out and I avoided being robbed by their high prices. I would encourage anyone to stay away and look at other options first. read more
