Summer's is a cool stop in for those causal snacks, beverages and essentials... Even pet essentials. How pawsome is that? Perfect place for wine, spirits, craft beer, domestic, import, mixers and more if you're looking to support a small biz. Get those lotto tickets here. I've won off a few small scratchers in the past. Service is solid. Pretty casual. I haven't had a negative interaction here personally, but beyond sorry to hear about those who have. Not sure if the same owners who've been here since my first trips in back in 2013/2014 and again more recently, but it was nice to see a few things updated including the super fresh coat of green paint on the outside. I do miss the more bodega style feel the original look had, but it's definitely a cool update as is the new signage. And the inside still has that vibe. Local grocer/small market meets spirit shop. read more

Great selection of liqueurs and alcohol. Parking on the street. Prices seemed fair.

wish i could rate lower than one. rude owner. terrible food. terrible vibes. wouldn't come here if it was the last spot on earth

We immensely enjoy their cold fridge where you can walk in. 2 only at a time inside (small space) though no one really adheres to it.. they always have the latest June shine (local craft kombucha) brand even on the release date when June shine runs out of their release beverage Summers still had some there when we happen to stop by. We live close by so we walk here often to grab snacks and since covid times they've stocked up more on market essentials and covid essentials like selling masks and medicine and dairy, milk ect. Owner is really enthused about beer and the others don't seem as into the store as owner is. Seems to be a lot of changes in ownership for this location I hope the current one is here to stay. Tonight had a crazy allergic reaction to something and thank goodness they carried Benadryl! Forever grateful for this store's convenience. read more

Summer's Market - Essentials - Grocery Near Me - San Diego, California

The owner is genuinely one of the rudest people I've ever met in my life. He disagreed with the way I dressed. I am a queer man and was simply wearing a crop top and earrings. He decided to make a scene in front of other customers saying he "doesn't want to see that shit in my store". Nice to everyone else who was masculine & straight-passing. Homophobic, prejudiced, awful person. read more

Bait and switch. Sign outside says they have a bottle of Pappy for $43. The employee said it is a "joke" put by the owner a couple years ago to bring in customers. It's not funny, deceptive, and a waste of time. I would not shop here as I don't know what else they lie about. read more

Bad service and rude employees I would not recommend this place at all. Not a lot of options either.

I like this spot for their wide selection of vermouths. As other folks have mentioned, the place has a sort of "bodega" aesthetic, which is fine with me. IMHO, it's a good value for specialty liquors in this area. The clerk (owner?) is knowledgeable about his products and has always been adequately pleasant. As far as small business liquor stores, this one is pretty good! read more

I don't usually leave reviews but this place should have a five star rating. My partner and I got really into vermouth after a trip to Europe. At a fancy work event I asked the bartenders where I could find a great selection for my partner's birthday and after consulting with the most knowledgeable bartender they told me Summer's Market. It delivered 100%. When we run out we always make the trip to this specific store because none others compare. We have also always received amazing service from helpful and kind employees. This store is truly a special hidden gem. read more

Stopped in after dinner to grab a few goodies to rake back to our hotel since we've been buying overpriced market items at the Hyatt. This was a convenient stop near the restaurant before catching our Uber back. The outside doesn't look like much and this in lot a fancy liquor store but boy did they have a wide variety of products. I only thought we would get liquor but they had aisles of goodies, chips, candy, small food items, small to large cans and bottles of liquor, cigars, walk in freezer and very reasonable prices ( especially after seeing crazy hotel mark up prices). The store clerk was starting to mop the floors as we walked in which was a plus. I'm glad they had low price wine openers as well: for $50 we had two bags of stuff that was well worth it. read more

This is the best local mart! First of all the people who work here are amazing--I'm biased because my dog is obsessed with Summers market (they always give him treats and make him feel so special.) Their selection is always great when it comes to beer and wine, they have some essentials, and the tastings they do are great! Always some good specials and discounts as well. Thank you Summer's for being a staple within UH! read more

Can't give less than 1, so they get 1. They are rude and customer service is horrible. And their prices are the worst in town for good liquor. That is the only reason they have a decent selection of bottles on their shelf, they are so outrageously priced, everyone just walks right on by. They must make their money off of selling junk product to people who don't care, but Bourbon, Whiskey and Tequila aficionados, stay away. read more

Beware. Don't run your card here. Came here to get a couple things a week ago and the day after someone had taken our card info and racked up $1500 in online charges. I won't come back as someone working there is a thief. read more

If you shop here get a receipt. They charge different prices than what's advertised. Report discrepancies to ABC for false advertising. read more

I'm pretty sure the owner of this place hates me. Almost every Sunday, I tie one on at Lei Lounge. I love that place, and since I live about 4 blocks away, I typically walk or ride my bike there. That being said, I feel it's OK to drink without judgment on the 7th day if I'm not going to be driving around. Whenever I head home, I find it necessary to stroll through this liquor store. Not because I need a new package of gum, not because I'm looking for a Mickey's Big Mouth, not because I'm in the need for teriyaki flavored beef jerky....because it makes me giggle to slightly annoy the clerk. Not criminal or anything, but when you walk in the door, it has THE MOST obnoxious alarm that goes off. You know, the "ding...dong" sorta thing when you walk into a convenience store. Welllll, at this particular location, they have a magazine rack right in the doorway...and as long as you're standing there, that alarm sounds and never ceases. Seriously, it's worse than the Emergency Broadcasting Service tests that stream across the television from time-to-time. I pretty much just stand there, reading those freebie magazines, until he gets mad and tells me to leave. It used to last about 30 seconds, now, his patience is much shorter. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-8 seconds. I don't know why I find so much pleasure doing this. Maybe it reminds me of my adolescence? I'm really not a jerk or anything...but this little activity makes me laugh. For being such an a-hole, I'm gonna hook him up with a good review, because it's actually a quality place to grab some cheap wines and mini-shots of Jose Cuervo. read more

Summer's Market - Grocery Near Me - San Diego, California

It would be overly gracious to call Summer's a market. It's not like anyone goes there to get groceries. Likewise it would be a misstatement to call it a convenience store, although it is quite convenient. Summer's is a liquor store. Summer's is like daycare for little Jack Daniels and the Grey Goose. While you are at work, Summer's gives them a place to hang out until you come to get them on the way home. Summer's keeps your beer cold for you, so you don't have to put the cans or bottles in the freezer for a quick chill. Summer's is where you go to resupply when you are at the bar next door, and all of your friends smoke all of your cigarettes. And Summer's is the place to go when despite your rational self, you decide to buy MEGA Millions lottery tickets. You know, those times when for no good reason you trade a rectangular green piece of paper with numbers on it for a square piece of white paper with numbers on it. Remember, you could have bought beer. The people running Summer's are pretty cool and friendly. They're not hunkered down behind the counter reading American Rifleman. Maybe they haven't been held up enough. read more

Absolutely the most friendly customer service! Huge shout outs to the guy, Joe, who works here.

I don't think I have laughed as hard as I did on Sunday, thanks to the owner of this store. Is he that funny? Not in his mind, but he is a total sucker for a joke and while I don't normally like Punk'n people, good God, it was too easy and too fun. As Ruggy notes in his review, the buzzer on this store's door is obnoxious. I mean OBNOXIOUS! It could kill a small child, deafen a dog and is right up there with nails on a chalkboard! In addition to this awful sound, it refuses to turn off if you are standing in front of it. You know how most stores do a little "ding dong" sound and it's done with? Well, not this store. This store keeps going and going and going which leads to hours of laughs at his expense. On Sunday, Ruggy decided to put on his earphones and stand at the free newspaper stand and rock out. I went in first and asked to use the ATM (ya know, create a distraction!) As he was helping me, in came Ruggy and the fun began... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPP "Hey!" "Hey! Buddy!!" "Hey! Buddy!!!!!!" (Rug continues to rock out as he can't "technically" hear him) "Ay! Ay! Move the door! Buddy?!?!?!" I am seriously trying not to lose it and instead just turn around and look at Ruggy and then back at the owner nodding, "Wow, can you believe this guy! Sheesh" From there the owner charges from behind the counter and guns it over to Ruggy and starts trying to move him from the door. "Ay! Buddy! Move!" Ruggy then looks dazed and confused (not a difficult look after a few strong Sunday drinks at the Lei Lounge!) and proceeds to move and the owner comes back to the counter and gives me my money. From there, I leave and round 2 begins. Our other 2 friends were placed in the store and as they are leaving, one of them stands in the door way saying... "Wait, where are we meeting?" BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP "Huh? I can't hear you? Where?" BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP "BUDDY?!?!?!?!!?" Friggin priceless. read more

Sign outside says they have Old Rip bourbon at a decent price, a hard-to-find brand that goes for $600+ elsewhere. Went in to ask about it, they said they actually didn't have any, and I said they should maybe take down the sign. Drove by a few days later, sign was still up. Very deceptive, not cool. read more

Popped in after picking up take out down the street. I think of the word "summer" I think of warm feelings, beaches, and cool breezes. Well, the only warmnness I sensed was the fart the cashier ripped prior to me paying. The soda I bought was warm also out of their fridge. The only cold thing was the cashier's body language and attitude. There's also a fifty cent charge for using a card. On top of all that, the products in the store looked plain old. Plenty of other liquor stores around this area that would make better options. read more

Okay 2 things: 1.How does Summer's have such a high rating?!?!? So puzzled on this one.... 2. How have I not written a review-my annoyance with this place continues to build every time I come here Unfortunately, this is the closest corner liquor/convenience store to my apartment. While it is nice to be able to walk 2 minutes to grab something without having to go to the grocery store, these products are old and dusty. I'm not kidding! There is a visible layer of dust on every product that they sell. I have seen many expired products as well! I'm not even going to get into the terrible florescent lighting, or the previously described HORRIBLE bell when you enter. I get mad every time I enter the store because of that stupid bell. I must sound so incredibly bitter, but it's only because I love my neighborhood, and I think it could do so much better. It's like an incredibly amazing, brilliant, hot girl dating a doofus. Kind of. I mean my husband bought band aids, and you could totally tell they were old. And of course the box was way dusty. I have to say though, the funniest moment is when I asked what kind of flavor was "arabic" because there was a pack of gum at the front counter that was labeled as arabic flavor. The owner couldn't really answer, he just looked at me dead pan, and said "arabic". I bought it out of guilt and curiosity, and it is one of the nastiest things I have ever tasted in my life. And it was old gum. Super duper fail Summer's. read more

This place is a scam and the owner is a liar. Went in to buy a bottle of bourbon on sale, and he told me the other guy in the store just bought the last one. Turns out the guy worked there. Called him out on his lie and he told me to f**k my mother. Avoid this place like the plague that it is. read more

I can not say enough great things about the staff and selection at Summer's. I go in a few times a month, but even with my mask on they know who I am and are always happy to strike up a conversation or help me find what I'm looking for, which is always fun given the crazy big selection of beer, wine and spirits they have. So glad they are part of the neighborhood. Please go in and support them. read more

Has a great selection of beer. Expanding selection of craft Spirits too! New owner is very nice!!

This store was in the area we were in and we needed to get a keycut. They did it for only 2 dollars! Bargain. The place has so much stuff (which is a good thing) but its not all that organised, you just end up feeling overwhelmed. Its a good one shop stop if you are in the area but not somewhere you would go out of your way for. read more

I used to live behind this store so this was my go to spot MANY times. They have the soda and chips that you want, the cigarettes you are craving, and the booze needed to continue the party that should've ended hours ago. Family owned and right on the corner. read more

I like having the convenience of this place. It's your basic little liquor store but close by.

So you look at this place and you think, another bodega with subpar offerings. BUT NO, this place is an absolute GEM if you are looking for rare whiskeys, upscale liquors, new cordials/bitters or even beer/seltzer varieties. KNOWINGLY selling stale cigarettes because the owner "doesn't know these people, has never met them before" is WRONG! Refusing to exchange the pack because I had smoked one is a big mistake - huge mistake - as I've been buying a pack a day @ $6.40 for the last several months now. Not any more. read more

I like that this place appears to be a locally owned mom and pop store. However, it needs some serious sprucing up. The dumpy bodega aesthetic would be more tolerable if he wasn't charging fancy market prices. read more

12 packs of Natural Light for $7.99. That's what I buy at Summer's, the beer is always cold and the man who owns this place makes his own 12 pack carry cases out of other cardboard boxes, that's worth a star or four. read more

Watch out, BAD MILK!!!! I live in the neighborhood and apart from the rip-off on credit-card usage I am finding some of the food is either out of date or in-date but bad. I have purchased milk on three occasions and the milk has been off! The date is correct but the milk itself is bad. In the end I ended up opening the milk infront of the sales person, its the third time in two weeks and I had to mention this. Also they tried to sell me products that were sitting on the shelf for a long time at discounted prices! read more

So was drinking off a hangover at small bar one afternoon and ran out of smokes. Strolled over to this place and grabbed two packs of pall mall reds. $5.50/pack!!! Most stores charge $3.85 to $4/pack. New law lets stores set a minimum of $10 for credit card purchases so I decide to get 2 packs cause I didn't have cash. Rude old man behind counter says I charge you 50 cents to pay with credit card. I said the fuck you are. You are already ripping me on the smokes you better not charge a credit card fee he said I have to charge it to cover my fees, bull shit I said you more than covered your fees by the rip off prices in your store and by the way its ILLEGAL to charge me a fee to pay with a card (yes it is, look it up the CA civil code). I was about to leave and walk across the street to the other market and he said "Fine, I don't charge you THIS time" Well you old dust farting miserable fuck, you won't have to worry about next time as I will never be back in your store. read more
