Starting this review at 4 stars because I am sure I will be back to it more frequently and I think it will become a 5! After dinner my boyfriend and I decided to grab a bottle of wine and some beer to watch a movie before going to bed and came across this liquor store. My biggest thing about going into a liquor store for wine is they typically don't have a great selection but this place surely proved me wrong! The selection of wine and beer for that matter were incredible, probably more than some grocery stores. If you like unique beers this place has so many to pick from we could have stood there for awhile going through all the options. He actually called me and offered to replace it with something else of my choice where he then gave me several options. Wow, a truly terrible experience! I ordered a very special bottle of whiskey as a Christmas gift. 8 days later, I realized they'd never sent me shipping info. I emailed them and heard back they'd be shipping the next day. I said, okay, but will it be there in time for Christmas? No response and a few hours later they just cancelled my order. What truly terrible service--I would avoid at ALL COSTS. And to anyone at Craft City, I had ordered this for a family member who is ill and this is likely their last Christmas--now I cannot get this there in time from any vendor. Great place to pick up craft beer! They've been great lately on updating their Instagram and Twitter with their recent acquisitions. Picked up some Pliny the Elder and Consecration on Friday after they announced having these on their social feeds. It's stuff they keep in the back for people that ask for these bottles specifically. In addition, they've had a pretty good stock of things from the Bruery. I was able to get a bottle of Sour in the Rye for $22 recently (a bottle that sells for $20 to MEMBERS only at the Bruery's official location in Fullerton). Great selection, very fair prices, and the staff seems super knowledgeable and helpful. read more

I've been going to Servall for as long as I can remember, and at some point in my life, like most people, I graduated from candy, snacks and soda - to candy, snacks and booze. This place has all of the above and a great selection of all of the above. Lots of wines, beers (even a "beer cave" full of the really good craft beers), booze, snacks, candy, smokes, etc. everything you'd expect at a liquor store and then some. To boot it's a family owned business, not a chain, so I'm always happy to go here to purchase something I "need" rather than a big chain store. Plus they're the only liquor store open in the hood until late, so they've got that going for them. The dudes who work here are always so nice, then again, I'm not walking in there acting sketchy, or like I'm doing them a favor by shopping there, and I never go in there completely black out wasted like a lot of their late night customers do, so there's a sort of earned mutual respect. We always ask each other how we've been doing, tell a story, have a laugh, and I'm on my way until the next time I venture the few blocks to get whatever it is I "need" the next time. Ignore the whiny reviews saying they're overpriced and you can do better at BevMo. The place is clean, too which I have found is somewhat of an anomaly in huge liquor stores. Weird. Anywho, the service we had was friendly. I am sure you have to be very knowledgeable to work here, although we did not need to put it to the test as we walked in knowing exactly what we wanted. Oh, I really want to be shopping here. They are local, not a chain, owned by real people, and have a great beer selection. They are interested in knowing what you want in a beer, and helping you find it. But... the place is just terrible about masking compliance, and I'm not ready to get sick for my beer! Their covid-safety started OK, then dropped off. Yeah, they put up some plexiglas in front (but we all know now that it's aerosols, not droplets, that do the spreading). Meanwhile, none of the three folks who work (older guy, younger guy, middle aged woman) there wear masks correctly or consistently. And they never ask their customers to, either. I really wanted some great brown ale they carry, but walked in to three "chin diaper" masks today. When I said something about it to the person at the register, she said something about one of them having a medical condition that prevents being able to wear a mask. That doesn't explain everyone else! And... if you have a medical condition that keeps you from wearing a mask properly, you should not be out working in a public space! You are likely more susceptible to the virus, and (mask-less) more likely to spread it to your customers before you get diagnosed. If it's just that wearing a mask sucks- it does, but it's the price of doing business (just like you can't work barefoot and shirtless, with a lit cigar in your mouth). This is just a BS excuse. I had came out of flicks and was walking past this liquor store and they had barrels outside of the store me and my friends wanted to take a picture so we ended up putting up my phone on top of the barrel and my phone ended up sliding into the crack and I wasn't able to get it! Luckily the most amazing two men who worked there were able to get my phone out thinking I might have to get it on Monday (it was Friday) and they were able to work there magic and get it out! Wow...here's a funny, but kinda rude one for you...you probably know the liquor store thats across the street from golden spoon...the owner can be such a (insert derogative word here). I go in there every day, sometimes twice a day to buy a pack of cigs, all the other employees already know what I want and are super friendly, but when I go in when the owner is there its like he's never seen me in his life time. I think he's homophobic, which I really could care less, just dont be rude dude. I've been in the store several times and the customer service has always sucked (the cashiers speak in their language without a simple hello or greeting) but I just get one particular item and leave. The service tonight took the cake! Tonight there was a gentleman ( and that term is is used lightly) about 5'4", jet black James Brown style hair who followed me to two different aisles while I made additional selections. Okay for selection I had to give it 3 stars but I REALLY wanted to give this place 2. I used to work across the street from here so my co workers and I were all here often. They kind of have everything so it's hard not to have been here at least a couple of times if you live in the area. The parking is a total D. There's like 3 spaces and a million business so that is never fun. One of the owners /managers /who knows what that guy is was constantly hitting on people in the corners of the store. Creepy! It's awkward when you're deep in thought about booze and someone pops up from behind you asking you if you are married or dating! The people working are always really disinterested. They are always watching some game or reading the paper? I shouldn't say always. If they don't have anything better to do, they can be really helpful. When I first wanted to stop going it was really difficult because you get used to having everything right there. But I find myself perfectly happy using Cottage "drive in" liquor on Park or just going to Ralph's if I need anything more. If you see an open parking space, or are walking by, this is a totally okay establishment. But if you want something with more consistency as far as parking or customer service then you are not missing out. read more

The only downside is the fact that there is never parking. When you are walking down the street looking for a little kahlua for the starbucks you just bought across the street it does the trick but if you are in a hurry on your way to a fabulous dinner party and need a bottle of vino to take with you then you might be in a jam since the parking is so bad. Sometimes when Im hanging out in Hillcrest I think about coming in here to get my snack on and if I plan on drinking I may even get one or two of those little shot bottles since they are so cheap. Pretty extensive wine selection also. This store is bright and very well stocked with sodas, beers, wine and munchies. Compared to the big grocery stores, its a little bit more expensive but when you compare it to a bar its hella cheap. Did I just use the word " hella " ? Yes I did and Im not even from the bay area. AMAZING beer selection---amazing----really. I can get my basics: Sierra Nevada or Stone Levitation--or something fancy from Unibroe. They even have this tasty Hebrew beer right now. Do you have a big trust fund? Are you so rich that prices of things do not matter anything to you? Then you should ignore what I will say and move on. But for the rest of us, we may not worry about small change, but we are sensitive to serious differences in prices. I went over to Servall looking for a certain product. Yes, they had it, but they're asking $37 for it. Makes no sense. Went over to BevMo, picked it up for $28. That's not some small change. The arithmetic tells you Servall is 32% more expensive than the big chain. And you also have to remember that San Diego does not have real cut-rate liquor stores. BevMo prices are decent, but nowhere near as low as you will find in some cities with a more competitive market. On top of it all, walking into Servall was just not pleasant. The men working there can best be described as seedy. Big contrast in going over to BevMo. There, it's not some wino's hideout, but a clean, modern store with healthy looking clerks. Even a young woman would not be put off in walking in there to look for liquor. So remember, the nearest BevMo is just a few minutes up the road. Words to the wise. read more
