Gorgeous, expansive nursery with indoor and outdoor vignettes. Hubs and I enjoyed shopping and walking while waiting for an appointment a block away. It's peaceful and pleasant. Nice, clean and well organized set-up. Employees are both friendly and knowledgeable. Pricing is not bad and definitely much, much more reasonable than Moon Nurseries (don't get me started on Moon!). SummerWinds was a recent discovery for me as I just moved to the Valley from out-of-state and to this point everyone always told me to go to Moon Nurseries . . . but no more. We purchased quite a lot of plants for both inside and outside along with various potting and cactus soils receiving great advice, suggestions and information from their staff. We've already returned and made additional purchases. Wish they were located closer to us, but we will still return. read more

I come to a nursery, as opposed to Home Depot or Lowes, because I am expecting a higher level of knowledge and advice regarding the proper care and maintenance of my plants. When I asked for that advice I was told that legally he could not provide it. If the plant should die then he could be held responsible for the plants demise. But wait, these are your plants!! If they die then you will be out $ to replace them under warranty. I can get this same level of service from HD and Lowes so why do I need to pay more money for the plants if I am going to get the same "I don't Care" attitude? read more

Every time I go the checkout service is extremely rude. I had to have a price check on a plant with no tag and the lady that came up was even ruder than the checkout! The only reason I'm not giving 5 is because it is pricey. I had such a nice nice time walking around. The nursery is beautiful! Pottery is hot and miss on prices, some decent others very expensive, however a good mix of different styles I haven't seen at other places. The cashier was friendly, but no one offered to help while I was searching for my house plant. I finally found a plant I've been wanting for months! A polka dot begonia!! It was in good condition... $40 however. Pretty pricey. The pot really matched the style where I was placing it, but it was $15. I would go back again looking for exotic house plants. I called in am and asked if they had red oleanders. The associate had someone check ; they have 5 gallon red oleanders for $30. When I arrived they were $49. I asked if they would honor first price of $30, I also asked if I could talk to the manager, they said she went home: another associate said we can't help you. I have mixed feelings about this place. For the most part the plant selection is awesome. Prices can be on the high side but I'd be ok with that if the service and education was better. For the most part when I flag down one of the employees in the actual plant area I get decent info when I ask. Today was the first time in 6 visits that someone asked me if I wanted help or information. It was Justin and he actually asked me twice, and was a great resource. The employees at the cashier station don't tend to be very helpful, friendly or knowledgeable, to the point that it makes it a very off putting experience. Will most likely return at some point, but I have to say I get treated better at Home Depot, which seems rather odd. read more

I love this place. We live in west Surprise and drive out here every couple weeks just to walk around and buy random plants. Awesome staff and easy to shop. If there is anything you can't find they are happy to help order it or let you know if it's already on the way ect. Highly recommend visiting. Also there is a lady who sells honey out front on the weekends... absolutely delicious and I don't usually like honey. read more

This is a really nice mid sized nursery that carries a variety of plants. I wish they had a larder selection of indoor but what they do have is great for beginners. I love that they have a guarantee on their plants. We bought a lemon tree which was very reasonably priced. I definitely appreciate the customer service. I purchased a monstera deliciousa last summer which is taking over my whole room. (In the best way possible). I have a zebra plant that is not as beginner friendly but she has done really well for me. And I've been gifted plants from summer winds which I love such as a Chinese evergreen. We are planning to landscape our yard more and we will definitely use some of their beautiful options. I also love that they offer fox farms soil. read more

This was my first stop at SummerWinds Nursery and trust me when I say - it will not be my last. Holy horticulture do these guys know what they're talking about! I actually fully intended to stock up on some Buxus japonica's for the little zen garden I am creating in our backyard, but the interwebs has steered me wrong. Care of the Buxus genus has offered nothing more than confusion and wrong turns everywhere I've looked on the internet. Depending upon the site you visit, some say FULL SUN while others say PARTIAL SHADE. Some say drown the shit out of it (in not so many words) and some say - hardy and drought tolerant! Some say prefers clay soil while others state it prefers a more acidic soil. Thankfully, Ryan at SummerWinds set me straight and since he lives in our great state of Arizona and is the manager of this joint, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the dude knows what he's talking about. Instead of spending $60 on a few Buxus japonica's only to watch them die a slow, fiery death in our sunshine - I opted to go with a few Ilex vomitoria's per his recommendation which I planted adjacent to my Crape Myrtle. I did a quick search online while at SummerWinds this morning and see the Ilex vomitoria's are another popular species utilized in Japanese zen gardens. Since they're hardy enough to withstand the arid weather of Arizona, I believe these will fit the bill nicely! I shall be back for my Myoporum parvifolium! read more

At first glance, the property looks nice. Full of plants. Once inside the plants are in sad shape. Not sure why. I saw staff watering. Went in looking for a lime tree. Went through the citrus plants and couldn't find what we were looking for. We asked a sales rep and the response was, "there are many kinds of lime trees and don't know the names, so just look at what we have and chose from there." If the reps don't want to understand what the customer is looking for then the business probably doesn't need my money. read more

This place is great! The staff is knowledgable and caring, their selection is amazing, and they seem to actually care about the product that they sell. For the first couple of months I was in Arizona I went to Moon Valley Nurseries (please avoid this place). Moon Valley is essentially a used car dealership for plants. The staff is 100 percent focused on selling, and thats it. Everything is an upsell as well, it definitely has that car salespeople vibe when you go in. After being off-put by this I decided to check out Summer Winds. Not only are their prices extremely reasonable compared to Moon Valley, but the quality is great, their return and replace system is phenomenal (replace any plant you buy if something happens, no questions asked), and the staff is very helpful and seems like they genuinely want to help, not just sell you something. I'll definitely be going to Summer Winds to get our trees and citrus this Fall! read more
